Department of Onco-Anesthesiology and Palliative Medicine, All India Institute of Medical Science, New Delhi 110029, India.

Prediabetes in children and adolescents is on the rise which has drawn significant attention over the past decade. It is an early warning sign of the underlying pathophysiological changes which in due course of time might compound into type II diabetes mellitus. The incidence of prediabetes in adolescents ranges from 4%-23% which is alarmingly high and requires active intervention from the system.

CD40 agonist antibodies (αCD40) have shown promising anti-tumor response in both preclinical and early clinical studies. However, its systemic administration is associated with immune- and hepato-toxicities which hampers its clinical usage. In addition, αCD40 showed low tumor retention and induced PD-L1 expression which makes tumor microenvironment (TME) immunosuppressive.

Article Synopsis
  • Primary malignant melanoma in the oral cavity, especially on the tongue, is rare and can be confused with squamous cell carcinoma due to similar features.
  • A 27-year-old male had a painless mass on his tongue for 6 months, which was initially thought to be squamous cell carcinoma; however, biopsy revealed it was primary amelanotic malignant melanoma without evidence of metastasis.
  • Treatment typically involves surgery, which is considered the most effective method; however, due to its aggressive nature and rarity, diagnosing and managing oral amelanotic malignant melanoma presents significant challenges.

Background: There is no known effective pharmacological therapy for long COVID, which is characterized by wide-ranging, multisystemic, fluctuating, or relapsing symptoms in a large proportion of survivors of acute COVID. This randomized controlled trial aims to assess the safety and efficacy of an anti-inflammatory agent colchicine, to reduce symptoms among those at high risk of developing long COVID.

Methods: This multi-centre, parallel arm, 1:1 individual randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind superiority trial will enrol 350 individuals with persistent post-COVID symptoms.

Vaccination, a historically effective public health intervention, has shielded millions from various diseases. Lessons from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) have improved COVID-19 vaccine development. Despite mRNA vaccines' efficacy, emerging variants pose challenges, exhibiting increased transmissibility, infectivity, and severity.

Introduction: Synovial hemangioma is a benign soft-tissue tumor of vascular origin. Hemangioma only accounts for 1% of all bone lesions and is mostly an incidental finding among the primary skeleton tumors. A delay in diagnosis results in joint degeneration and osteoarthritic damage because of infiltrating tumor growth.

Unravelling the Triad of Lung Cancer, Drug Resistance, and Metabolic Pathways.

Diseases

May 2024

Lung Health and Immunity, Helmholtz Zentrum Munich, IngolstädterLandstraße 1, 85764 Oberschleißheim, 85764 Munich, Bayren, Germany.

Lung cancer, characterized by its heterogeneity, presents a significant challenge in therapeutic management, primarily due to the development of resistance to conventional drugs. This resistance is often compounded by the tumor's ability to reprogram its metabolic pathways, a survival strategy that enables cancer cells to thrive in adverse conditions. This review article explores the complex link between drug resistance and metabolic reprogramming in lung cancer, offering a detailed analysis of the molecular mechanisms and treatment strategies.

Article Synopsis
  • A study analyzed mixed mould infections in patients with COVID-19-associated pulmonary mucormycosis (CAPM) to determine the prevalence of co-existing COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (CAPA) and its impact on early mortality.
  • Among 105 patients with CAPM, 20% had mixed mould infections, and those with CAPA experienced significantly higher early mortality rates (42.9%) compared to those without (17.9%).
  • The findings suggest that co-existing CAPA worsens the prognosis for CAPM patients, highlighting the need for further research on mixed mould infections globally.

Background Presently, modern regenerative and surgical techniques for immediate implant placement in prepared sockets with soft tissue grafts and bone substitutes have helped eliminate concerns about bone deficiency. This also allowed the placement of dental implants based on prosthodontic needs. Aim  The present study aimed to comparatively assess dental implant healing following immediate implant placement with or without bone graft and dental implant healing after delayed implant placement with or without bone graft.

A multifunctional silk-hyaluronic acid self-healing hydrogel laden with alternatively activated macrophage-derived exosomes reshape microenvironment of diabetic wound and accelerate healing.

Centre for Biomedical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, New Delhi-110016, India; Department of Biomedical Engineering, All India Institute of Medical Science, Delhi, New Delhi-110029, India. Electronic address:

The impairment of phenotype switching of pro-inflammatory M1 to pro-healing M2 macrophage induced by hyperglycemic microenvironment often elevates oxidative stress, impairs angiogenesis, and leads to chronic non-healing wounds in diabetic patients. Administration of M2 macrophage-derived exosomes (M2Exo) at wound site is known to polarize M1 to M2 macrophage and can accelerate wound healing by enhancing collagen deposition, angiogenesis, and re-epithelialization. In the present study, M2Exo were conjugated with oxidized hyaluronic acid and mixed with PEGylated silk fibroin to develop self-healing Exo-gel to achieve an efficient therapy for diabetic wounds.

Background: Diffuse midline gliomas (DMGs) are malignant tumors predominantly affecting children, often leading to poor outcomes. The 2021 World Health Organization classification identifies 3 subtypes of DMGs, all characterized by the loss of H3K27 trimethylation. Here, we report 2 cases of DMG with Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor () mutations within exon 20, contributing to the understanding of the molecular complexity of these pediatric brain tumors.

  • - The rise of technologies like continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and flash glucose monitoring has transformed how patients manage diabetes, allowing them to track glycemic variability (GV), which traditional methods like HbA1c fail to adequately reflect.
  • - This study aimed to assess GV in well-controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients and its correlation with HbA1c using a flash CGM system.
  • - Conducted over 7 days with 30 patients, the research involved monitoring glycemic excursions using the FreeStyle Libre Pro™ and analyzing the data for standard CGM metrics.

Noncoding RNA

April 2024

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Delhi University Campus, Mall Road, Delhi 110007, India.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease that causes joint inflammation and destruction with an unknown origin. Our study aims to elucidate the molecular mechanism behind HIF1α overexpression in RA. Dysregulated miRNA expressions are known to influence gene behavior, thereby enhancing cell proliferation, inflammation, and resistance to apoptosis, contributing to RA development.
