Background And Objectives: Modified Atkins diet (MAD) has emerged as an adjuvant therapy in drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE). Most studies are in children; there is limited evidence for DRE in adults. This study aimed to investigate whether MAD along with standard drug therapy (SDT) was indeed more effective than SDT alone in reducing seizure frequency and improving psychological outcomes at 6 months in adolescents and adults with DRE (nonsurgical).

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterised by the presence of several autoantibodies, immune complex formation and multiple organ system involvement. SLE has a wide range of manifestations involving nearly all organ systems. Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) in SLE is a well-established and a common abnormality, which is generally mild and not included in the diagnostic criteria of SLE.

Introduction: Glomus tumours are benign neoplasms arising from the glomus body, a network of specialized neuromyoarterial structures containing arteriovenous anastomosis and regulating temperature. It is often misdiagnosed as paronychia, arthritis, traumatic sequelae, and many other conditions including psychiatric misdiagnosis. A typical triad of paroxysmal pain, point tenderness, and cold intolerance characterize it.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus has been rapidly evolving over the time and the genetic variation has led to the generation of Variants of Concerns (VoC), which have shown increased fitness. These VoC viruses contain the key mutations in the spike protein which have allowed better survival and evasion of host defense mechanisms. The D614G mutation in the spike domain is found in the majority of VoC; additionally, the P681R/H mutation at the S1/S2 furin cleavage site junction is also found to be highly conserved in major VoCs; Alpha, Delta, Omicron, and its' current variants.

Background: Adherence to medications is one of the key determinants of therapeutic control of high blood pressure and is seen as a bottleneck in our fight against hypertension control. We have little scientific evidence from India that highlights the determinants of treatment adherence.

Aim: The purpose of this study was to identify the predictor adherence to the currently prescribed antihypertensive medications.

Introduction: Gestational diabetes (GDM) and pre-eclampsia (PE) represents the unrecognized risk factors for reduced bone content in neonates. The present study is planned to explore the components of vitamin D metabolism and calcium transport in placenta of GDM and PE cases and its effect on the neonatal bone mass determination using bone densitometry system.

Methods: We have collected serum and placenta tissues from GDM (n = 20), PE (n = 20), and healthy pregnancies (n = 20).

The onset and spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus have created an unprecedented universal crisis. Although vaccines have been developed against the parental SARS-CoV-2, outbreaks of the disease still occur through the appearance of different variants, suggesting a continuous need for improved and effective therapeutic strategies. Therefore, we developed a novel nanovesicle presenting Spike protein on the surface of the dendritic cell-derived extracellular vesicles (DEVs) for use as a potential vaccine platform against SARS-CoV-2.

Background: Transforaminal epidural steroid injection (TFESI) is commonly used to relieve pain due to intervertebral disc displacements (IDD). Poorly defined selection criteria lead to post procedure dissatisfaction among patients. We aimed to find clinical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) predictors for pain relief at 3 months following a TFESI.

  • Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a common birth defect linked to maternal rubella infection and genetic factors, but their exact roles in causing CHD are still unclear.
  • A study in Western Rajasthan examined 251 infants with confirmed CHD to investigate its epidemiology, causes, and the effectiveness of diagnostic criteria for congenital rubella infection.
  • Results showed a 1% prevalence of CHD, with 8.5% of cases linked to congenital rubella syndrome, highlighting the need for further research to understand the causes of many CHD cases that remain unidentified.*

Dermatophytosis is a common superficial fungal infection of the skin and its appendages caused by dermatophytes. Recent times have witnessed a dynamic evolution of dermatophytes driven by their ecology, reproduction, pathogenicity and host immune response, influenced by population migration and socioeconomic status. Dermatophytes establish infection following successful adherence of arthroconidia to the surface of keratinized tissues.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are often corrupted by undesirable sources like electrooculogram (EOG) artifacts, which have a substantial impact on the performance of EEG-based systems. This study proposes a new singular spectrum analysis (SSA)-non-negative matrix factorization (NMF)-based ocular artifact removal (SNOAR) method to suppress ocular artifacts from multi-channel EEG signals. First, SSA was used to estimate EOG artifacts using a small subset of frontal electrodes.

Sphingomonas paucimobilis is a Gram-negative bacteria identified as a rare infectious agent, more commonly seen among immune-compromised hosts. Infections include bacteremia, septicemia leading to septic shock, bone and soft-tissue infections such as septic arthritis, osteomyelitis, infection of shunts, and implantable devices. Although the organism has been reported to have low pathogenicity, infections in the immune compromised can be devastating leading to even death.

Introduction: Although aortic valve replacement in severe symptomatic Aortic Stenosis (AS) are clearly outlined, the role of surgical intervention in asymptomatic severe AS remains unclear with limited evidence. The aim of our meta-analysis is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of early surgical aortic valve repair compared to conservative management.

Methods: A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Embase and Cochrane databases for studies comparing the early surgery versus conservative management among asymptomatic aortic stenosis patients.
