The ongoing investigation seeks ESBL producing strains from pig farms and slaughterhouses in West Bengal and Assam, India.

Background: During adolescence, a critical phase in human life, the groundwork for a healthful future is established. Physical inactivity poses a significant risk factor for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and related mortality worldwide. To assess adolescents' behavioral intentions regarding regular physical activity, the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) examines 'Attitude,' 'Subjective norm,' and 'Perceived behavioral control.

Respiratory Morbidity Among Seed-Processing Industry Workers: A Cross-Sectional Study in Rural West Bengal, 2022-2023.

Background: Seed processing workers are exposed to dust particles generated during the processing of seeds, which can have adverse effects on their respiratory health. Aim: to estimate the prevalence and patterns of respiratory morbidity among seed processing workers in Hooghly district, West Bengal, India, and to explore their use of respiratory personal protective equipment (PPE).

Methods: A cross sectional observational study was conducted in 5 seed processing plants from December 2022 to February 2023.

Thyroid Disorders among Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Cross-sectional Study from a District Hospital in West Bengal.

Introduction: The coexistence of diabetes mellitus (DM) (both type 1 and type 2) and thyroid dysfunction, two common endocrine problems, is scientifically predictable. The prevalence of thyroid disorders among type 2 diabetics (more prevalent in India) was studied among patients visiting the outpatient department (OPD) of a district hospital in West Bengal to assess its relation with different characteristics of type 2 DM.

Materials And Methods: A total of 120 patients suffering from type 2 DM (already diagnosed and on treatment) were randomly selected from the OPD (irrespective of their glycemic status).

A mixed-methods study on risk perception and safety practices among unorganized construction workers in a municipal area of West Bengal.

Background: The construction industry in India heavily relies on unorganized workers, who often lack adequate access to safety measures, placing them at significant risk of accidents and injuries. The objective was to determine risk perceptions of construction workers, and explore their safety practices, facilitators, and barriers.

Methods: A mixed-methods approach with a convergent parallel design (QUAN + qual) was undertaken.

This paper proposes the utilisation of twin studies as a novel and powerful methodological approach to investigate critical research questions pertaining to cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship within primary care contexts. The inherent genetic similarity between monozygotic (MZ) (identical) twins provides a unique opportunity to disentangle genetic and environmental influences on cancer-related outcomes. MZ twins share virtually identical genetic makeup, offering a unique opportunity to discern the relative contributions of genetic and environmental factors to cancer-related outcomes.

Integrated Care for Type 1 Diabetes: The West Bengal Model.

Introduction: A structured dedicated health programme for Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) has been initiated in the state of West Bengal, India.

Aim: The aim is to provide comprehensive healthcare to all children, adolescents and young adults living with T1DM, along with the provision of free supply of insulin, glucose measuring devices, blood glucose test strips, and other logistics. The strategic framework for programme implementation is to utilise the infrastructure and manpower of the already existing non-communicable disease (NCD) clinic under National Health Mission.

Introduction: In spite of falls being a major public health problem, where most of the falls are preventable, there is a lack of epidemiological investigation among those aged 50 and above, especially in developing countries. Hence, we investigate the proportion, pattern, and predictors of falls in this age group.

Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional community-based study was done in the Uluberia-II block of Howrah district, West Bengal, from February to July 2021.

Effect of educational intervention on risk factors of cardiovascular diseases among school teachers: a quasi-experimental study in a suburb of Kolkata, West Bengal, India.

Objective: This prospective study aimed to evaluate the effects of a health education intervention on cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors among school teachers.

Methods: The study, conducted from August 2016 to May 2017, involved teachers from four schools in Baruipur, West Bengal, India. It was a multicentric, quasi-experimental study with an intervention group receiving tailored health education promoting lifestyle modifications, while the control group received no intervention.

Scourge of out-of-pocket expenditure on health: A study on its burden and predictors in a rural community of West Bengal.

Introduction: Globally, one-third of current health expenditure had been out-of-pocket expenditure (OOPE). The health system financing of almost all low- and middle-income countries including India rely heavily on out-of-pocket (OOP) payments for health care. OOPE on health payments is particularly hard on any community, especially the poor leading to incomplete or even no treatment during their ill health.

This community-based study aimed to identify the effect of different behavioral factors of family caregivers on the decision for home-isolation-based treatment of a new COVID-19-diagnosed elderly individual. It also explored the facilitators and barriers contributing to the decision-making process. A mixed-methods design was adopted to study the role of behavioral constructs such as risk tolerance, risk aversion, regret aversion, loss aversion, self-efficacy, and risk perception in healthcare-seeking decisions.

Triple Burden of Malnutrition among Children in India: Current Scenario and the Way Forward.

The triple burden of malnutrition (undernutrition, overnutrition and micronutrient deficiency) or TBM among under-five (U5) children is an increasingly recognised public health challenge. A literature search was conducted to identify studies published from 1976 to 2022, which had focused on information regarding different factors of child malnutrition. The findings were analysed and contextualised from policy and programmatic perspective.

An analytical observational study on chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology at a rural tertiary care hospital in West Bengal.

Background: Chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) has been a growing concern in the Indian population causing significant morbidity and mortality in these recent years. Thus, it is vital to understand the probable risk factors associated with its manifestation. This study aims to assess the distribution of various etiologies among CKD patients, investigate all the probable risk factors associated with CKDu, and estimate the health-related quality of life (QoL) among all CKDu patients in the study area.

Characterization of piggery farm waste-borne bacterial transposable elements associated with antimicrobial resistance phenotypes.

Even though there is a link between antibiotic resistance and the presence of transposable elements few research has looked at the prevalence and distribution of transposable elements/ integrons in piggery farm samples. Present study identified the presence of six transposable elements namely Tn6763 (Accession number: OQ565300), Tn6764, (Accession number: OQ565299), Tn6765 (Accession number: OQ409902), Tn2003 (Accession number: OQ503494), Tn6072 (Accession number: OQ565298) and Tn6020 (Accession number: OQ503493) in piggery farm waste from India which are belongs to Enterobacteriaceae family. In a conjugative experiment, Klebsiella isolates carrying Tn6020 having the resistant phenotypes for nalidixic acid was used as donor cells while Escherichia coli DH5α Cells carrying chloramphenicol resistant plasmid was employed as recipient cells.

Utilisation of adolescent reproductive and sexual health services in a rural area of West Bengal: A mixed-method study.

Introduction: Despite policy actions and strategic efforts for improving the reproductive and sexual health of adolescents by promoting the uptake of adolescent reproductive and sexual health (ARSH) services, the utilisation rate remains significantly low, especially in rural areas of India. This study aimed to assess the utilisation of these services by adolescents in rural West Bengal and its associated determinants.

Method: This mixed-method study was conducted from May to September 2021 in the Gosaba rural block of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

An Epidemiological Study of the Quality of Life of Children With Beta-Thalassemia Major (β-TM) and Its Correlates in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.

Background and objectives In contrast to their peers who are healthy, children with thalassemia disease are likely to have a lower quality of life (QoL). Knowledge of attributes affecting the QoL of thalassemic children may help identify key areas of intervention to improve it. Thus, the current study was envisioned to find out the quality of life (QoL) of children with beta-thalassemia major (β-TM) and its various correlates.

Knowledge, Attitude and Level of Involvement of Married Males in Family Planning.

Background There is an age-old notion that family planning is women's responsibility disregarding the fact that men have equal responsibility in fertility regulation. Although male involvement is getting more recognition, studies on men's role in family planning are very few in the number in this part of the world. Objective To assess the knowledge, attitude and level of male involvement in family planning and to find out the factors associated with male involvement by contraceptive usage.

Introduction: Adolescence is a distinctive period of life when intense physical, psychological, and cognitive development occurs. A healthy diet helps prevent various forms of malnutrition and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and cancer. The current study aimed to assess the change in behavioral intentions (measured based on the TPB) toward healthy dietary practices through health promotion intervention among adolescents studying in selected schools in an urban area of West Bengal, India.

The current article attempted to add to the evidence pool regarding climate change impacts on the indigenous population by systematically collecting, processing, and interpreting data as a scoping literature review for effective and inclusive climate policymaking.
