Acute renal failure secondary to medicinal plants is common in countries where the use of traditional phytotherapy is preponderant. Although the nephrotoxic potentials of some herbal preparations have been well characterized, the use of many medicinal plants is still considered largely safe, often relying on weak evidence. Here, we report the case of a 17-year-old patient with severe acute renal failure, associated to an esophagitis with erosive gastritis as well as an inflammatory anemia, with no obvious etiology.

Outdoor microcosms, metabarcoding with next-generation sequencing of the 16S rRNA bacterial gene, total body score (TBS) and physicochemical analyses were used to monitor Mus musculus decomposition aboveground (A) and in the subsurface (S), and compared to soil-only controls (C). In this paper, an improved voltage control strategy for microgrids (MG) is proposed, using an artificial neural network (ANN)-based adaptive proportional-integral (PI) controller combined with droop control and virtual impedance techniques (VIT). The control strategy is developed to improve voltage control, power sharing and total harmonic distortion (THD) reduction in the MG systems with renewable and distributed generation (DG) sources. The VIT is used to decouple active and reactive power, reduce negative power interactions between DG's and improve the robustness of the system under varying load and generation conditions.

In this paper, a new label-free DNA nanosensor based on a top-gated (TG) metal-ferroelectric-metal (MFM) graphene nanoribbon field-effect transistor (TG-MFM GNRFET) is proposed through a simulation approach. The DNA sensing principle is founded on the dielectric modulation concept. The computational method employed to evaluate the proposed nanobiosensor relies on the coupled solutions of a rigorous quantum simulation with the Landau-Khalatnikov equation, considering ballistic transport conditions.

The development of eco-friendly wood adhesives have gained more interest among adhesives industries due to the concerns about using carcinogenic formaldehyde and petroleum-based phenol in commercially available adhesives. This paper introduces a novel class of chaotic attractors by lever- aging different activation functions within neurons possessing multiple dendrites. We propose a comprehensive framework where the activation functions in neurons are varied, allowing for diverse behaviors such as amplification, fluctuation, and folding of scrolls within the resulting chaotic attractors.
