Angiodysplasia is one of the causes of recurrent episodes of lower gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. Angiodysplasia could be associated with few lesions or multiple diffuse lesions, causing diversity in the clinical presentation of such patients. We report a case of a 19-year-old male presenting with life-threatening gastrointestinal bleeding due to diffuse angiodysplasia of the bowel extending from the jejunum to the sigmoid colon and requiring multiple investigations and management.

Physical activity guidelines targeting different populations with and without chronic diseases or disabilities are required to meet the diverse functional and physiological needs experienced by different subgroups of people to achieve optimal health benefits. As the importance of physical activity guidelines in promoting optimal health and well-being becomes increasingly recognised, there is a critical need for their systematic evaluation to ensure they remain effective, applicable and aligned with evolving health needs and scientific insights. This study aims to systematically review, critically evaluate, and compare global physical activity and sedentary behaviour guidelines on frequency, intensity, time, and type of exercise for adults, pregnant and postpartum women, and people living with chronic conditions and/or disabilities.

Here, we offer guidelines for neurological care (neurological monitoring and management) of adults during and after ECMO support.

Methods: These guidelines are based on clinical practice consensus recommendations and scientific statements.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are some of the most common conditions and the major contributors to death and disability globally, hence the need for proper secondary prevention interventions. Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs have been recognized as an essential component in the treatment of CVDs with the goal of decreasing the risk of new cardiovascular events and improving the quality of life. This systematic review and meta-analysis sought to determine the impact of CR as a form of CVD treatment on mortality, morbidity, functional capacity, and quality of life amongst the patient population.

In-Person Healthcare Simulation: An Umbrella Review of the Literature.

Given the large accumulation of research focused on the effectiveness of in-person simulation-based education (SBE), this umbrella review-or systematic review of systematic reviews-was conducted using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis guidelines to analyze collective findings and close identified literature gaps. This study presents a descriptive analysis of the most effective modalities, methods, and measurements of in-person SBE, as well as major themes that emerged during analysis as it relates to SBE outcomes.The major patterns or themes that emerged confirm for the first time a longstanding sentiment in the literature, specifically the following: a need to produce higher-quality research with greater rigor, larger sample sizes, more randomized controlled trials, mixed methods, and longitudinal studies.

Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is a systemic vasculitis characterized by palpable purpura, arthralgia or arthritis, GI symptoms, and renal involvement. Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) syndrome, a rare condition, occurs when the third part of the duodenum is compressed between the aorta and the SMA, leading to upper intestinal obstruction. This case report describes the clinical presentation, diagnostic process, and management of an eight-year-old girl with HSP complicated by SMA syndrome.

Survey research enables the gathering of information on individual perspectives in a large cohort. It can be epidemiological, attitude or knowledge focussed. Assessment of survey studies sampling neurosurgeons is currently lacking in the literature.

A Case of Congenital Myasthenia Gravis due to ChAT Gene Mutation in a Term Neonate: A Case Report.

Congenital myasthenia gravis syndrome (CMS) is a rare genetic heterogeneous disorder due to abnormal neuromuscular transmission caused by several genes. CMS caused by choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) gene mutations have been reported in 53 cases since 2020, and only three of them have been identified as hemizygous mutations. A 1-day-old term neonate was transferred from the nursery to the neonatal intensive care unit on 10 L of oxygen by face mask due to respiratory distress.

Background Plantar fasciitis is characterized by heel pain and is often associated with extended periods of walking or standing, improper footwear, and biomechanical imbalances. This condition primarily affects the bottom of the foot, particularly the area where the heel meets the arch. Despite its prevalence, the potential systemic effects, especially the relationship with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors, require further illumination.

Assessing the Body Composition of "Picky Eaters" Using Body Impedance Analysis: An Experience From a Tertiary Care Center.

Background: Picky eating might be associated with a higher risk of being underweight and poor growth. This study aimed to investigate if picky eaters aged between three and 12 years showed differences in height, weight, and body composition compared to their non-picky peers using a body impedance analysis (BIA).

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between March 1, 2022, and July 31, 2022, on children aged three to 12 years who presented to the outpatient pediatric clinics at Al Habib Ar Rayyan in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Spondyloenchondrodysplasia With Immune Dysregulation, but Without Skeletal Dysplasia, in a Six-Year-Old Boy: A Case Report.

Spondyloenchondrodysplasia with immune dysregulation (SPENCDI) is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder caused by a homozygous mutation of the ACP5 gene. Spondyloenchondrodysplasia is a type of immune-osseous dysplasia manifesting with skeletal dysplasia, immunologic dysfunction, and neurological manifestations. We report the case of a six-year-old boy with SPENCDI who presented with post-viral illness Coombs-positive hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and fever, based on which he was diagnosed with Evans syndrome.

Red Wine as an Aromatase Inhibitor: A Narrative Review.

As estrogen-dependent breast cancer is more affected by the local production of estrogen via aromatase than serum estrogen, aromatase inhibitors for treating breast carcinomas in postmenopausal women have been developed. As the aromatase enzyme converts endogenous androgen to estrogenic compounds, its blockade lowers the in situ production of estrogen, demonstrated to encourage tumor proliferation. Red wine, but not white wine, may have aromatase-inhibiting properties that are being elucidated, although the exact mechanisms of action are not known.

Examining the Effectiveness of Educational Tools and Elements Used in Medical Textbooks: Students' Perspective.

Background As textbooks constitute a foundational component of medical education, it is imperative to conduct a rigorous evaluation of their efficacy by examining the fundamental elements and tools utilized within these textbooks and how multiple factors may alter the effectiveness of such components. Materials and methods We conducted a cross-sectional, survey-based study where 251 subjects anonymously rated the effectiveness of different tools and elements/factors used in medical textbooks using 5-point Likert scales. The population surveyed included year 1 to 5 medical students at Alfaisal University, where students are admitted to medical school directly after high school, with an approximately equal male-to-female admission rate.
