Background And Objective: Clipping of aneurysms located in the anterior communicating artery (AcomA) is considered a critical surgical procedure for neurosurgeons worldwide because of the complexity of the surgical area. The present study was conducted to discuss the importance of the geometric curvatures and the direction of the dominant A1 artery and their impact on aneurysmal growth direction and choice of side selection of the pterional surgical approach side.

Methods: The present study enrolled 183 patients with ruptured AcomA-located aneurysms.

The development of modern microvascular surgical techniques has enabled the reliable transfer of free vascularized tissue. This allowed for predictable reconstruction outcomes with excellent surgical success rates. However, devastating consequences of partial or total flap failure and subsequent loss may occur.

Synovial cell sarcoma (SS) is a rare soft tissue sarcoma which can occur at any site in the body. SS arise from pluripotent mesenchymal cells and can occur in the head and neck region. We present a case of primary SS of the thyroid gland in a 47- year- old male and discuss the diagnostic and management challenge.

Purpose: This systematic review aims to summarize the evidence investigating the effectiveness and safety of the Surpass Evolve-Flow Diverter (SE-FD) to treat brain aneurysms.

Method: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library from January 2019 to 29 March 2022. Terms related to the "intracranial aneurysm" and "surpass evolve flow diverter" concepts were used to search the databases; Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and reference hand search were also utilized.

Angiographic predictors of spontaneous obliteration of transarterial partially embolized brain arteriovenous malformations.

Interv Neuroradiol

August 2023

Department of Neurosurgery, Alexandria University School of Medicine, & The Research Center of Computational Neurovascular Biomechanics, Somoha University Hospital, Alexandria, Egypt.

Background: Spontaneous obliteration of cerebral arteriovenous malformations is uncommon but could occur after partial embolization.

Methods: A retrospective study of 140 patients that underwent embolization for cerebral AVMs from 2005 to August 2019 using liquid embolic agents. The angiographic outcome of patients was classified as regard complete embolization, partial embolization, and complete obliteration after partial embolization.

Background: There is a high incidence of alexithymia in people who report medically unexplained symptoms. There have been limited studies on the prevalence of alexithymia in patients with medically unexplained physical symptoms (MUPS) in various ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Objective: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of alexithymia in patients with MUPS and examine their socio-demographic data.

Background: Divorce rates have increased during the last decade, leading to a greater focus of marital scholars on the importance of understanding couple-maintaining strategies within marital life. Distresses in couples are attributable to difficulties controlling felt, experienced, and expressed emotions; thus, emotion dysregulation is a core stressor in couples with maladaptive responses.

Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) on outpatient couples to treat emotion dysregulation.

Caregivers of patients with severe mental disorders experience a heavy stress burden that can manifest as psychiatric symptoms mimicking posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and can negatively impact interpersonal relationships and work performance. The present study investigated the prevalence of PTSD symptoms, quality of life (QoL), and stress burden in caregivers of patients with severe mental illness. A total of 70 caregivers of severely mentally ill patients and 70 control subjects who were caregivers of patients with a chronic debilitating medical illness (cardiovascular disease) were recruited from university hospital outpatient facilities.

Background: COVID-19 infection has been known to predispose patients to both arterial and venous thromboembolic events such as deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, and stroke. A few reports from the literature suggest that Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis (CVSTs) may be a direct complication of COVID-19.

Objective: To review the clinical and radiological presentation of COVID-19 positive patients diagnosed with CVST.

Article Synopsis
  • Platinum resistance in high grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) is increasing, with about 75% of patients experiencing recurrence after chemotherapy, contributing to poor five-year survival rates of 39% for stage III and 17% for stage IV.
  • The text examines the interactions between HGSC cells and their tumor microenvironment, emphasizing the roles of the extracellular matrix, ascitic fluid, and various immune cells in developing platinum resistance.
  • It also highlights the clinical significance of platinum-resistant markers and discusses the potential of immunotherapy to help re-sensitize these patients to platinum-based treatments, aiming to improve therapeutic outcomes.

In the unprecedented current era of the COVID-19 pandemic, challenges have arisen in the management and interventional care of patients with acute stroke and large vessel occlusion, aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, and ruptured vascular malformations. There are several challenges facing endovascular therapy for stroke, including shortages of medical staff who may be deployed for COVID-19 coverage or who may have contracted the infection and are thus quarantined, patients avoiding early medical care, a lack of personal protective equipment, delays in door-to-puncture time, anesthesia challenges, and a lack of high-intensity intensive care unit and stroke ward beds. As a leading regional neurovascular organization, the Middle East North Africa Stroke and Interventional Neurotherapies Organization (MENA-SINO) has established a task force composed of medical staff and physicians from different disciplines to establish guiding recommendations for the implementation of acute care pathways for various neurovascular emergencies during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Objective: In 2016, the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) changed the recommended daily dose of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) from 6.5 mg/kg to <5 mg/kg. However, it is not clear that the lower prescribed dose of HCQ will have the same efficacy for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) activity or the same role in protecting against cardiovascular risk factors and thrombosis.
