Institut für Organische Chemie, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Albertstraße 21, 79104 Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.

Hydrothiolation presents an attractive way to transform allenes into allylic thioethers. Herein, we described an efficient visible-light photoredox-promoted nickel-catalyzed hydrothiolation of allenes with functionalized aromatic and aliphatic thiols. This synergistic catalytic system exhibits unprecedentedly high reactivities and regiocontrol for the construction of allylic thioethers, representing the unique synthetic utility of the earth-abundant Ni-catalyzed method compared with the related noble-metal-catalyzed allylation reactions.

Presynaptic Adrenoceptors.

Handb Exp Pharmacol

September 2024

Institut für Experimentelle und Klinische Pharmakologie und Toxikologie, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany.

Presynaptic α-adrenoceptors are localized on axon terminals of many noradrenergic and non-noradrenergic neurons in the peripheral and central nervous systems. Their activation by exogenous agonists leads to inhibition of the exocytotic release of noradrenaline and other transmitters from the neurons. Most often, the α-receptor subtype is involved in this inhibition.

The processing of sensory information, even at early stages, is influenced by the internal state of the animal. Internal states, such as arousal, are often characterized by relating neural activity to a single "level" of arousal, defined by a behavioral indicator such as pupil size. In this study, we expand the understanding of arousal-related modulations in sensory systems by uncovering multiple timescales of pupil dynamics and their relationship to neural activity.

Due to the complexity of the catalytic FeMo cofactor site in nitrogenases that mediates the reduction of molecular nitrogen to ammonium, mechanistic details of this reaction remain under debate. In this study, selenium- and sulfur-incorporated FeMo cofactors of the catalytic MoFe protein component from Azotobacter vinelandii are prepared under turnover conditions and investigated by using different EPR methods. Complex signal patterns are observed in the continuous wave EPR spectra of selenium-incorporated samples, which are analyzed by Tikhonov regularization, a method that has not yet been applied to high spin systems of transition metal cofactors, and by an already established grid-of-error approach.

The recall of memories of past events, experiences and emotions is a complex process. When experiencing traumatic events, as is the case with sexual violence, a host of additional complexities and difficulties arise. This becomes especially important in court cases which rely mostly or exclusively on the testimony of the victim, where the problem of the fallibility of memory takes center stage.

Correspondence on "Organo-Mediator Enabled Electrochemical Deuteration of Styrenes".

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

November 2024

Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Institute of Organic Chemistry, Albertstr. 21, 79104, Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.

The recently reported electrochemical, organo-mediator enabled deuteration of styrenes, a reaction referred to as "electrochemical deuterium atom transfer", differs mechanistically from reported direct electrochemical hydrogenations/deuterations only by a mediated, homogeneous SET to the substrates. By comparing direct vs. mediated processes in general and for styrene reduction, we display that Qiu's work does not change the concept of this chemistry.

The first example of intramolecular nucleophilic addition of 1,4-diazabutatriene to ester is disclosed. This approach provides a facile and versatile synthesis for functionalized 2-1,4-benzoxazines under metal-, reagent-, and solvent-free conditions. Experimental and computational studies revealed the pivotal role of 1,5-acyl migration as the self-catalytic step in the reaction selectivity.

Novel treatment modalities are imperative for the challenging management of muscle-invasive and metastatic BC to improve patient survival rates. The recently identified KMT9, an obligate heterodimer composed of KMT9α and KMT9β, regulates the growth of various types of tumors such as prostate, lung, and colon cancer. While the overexpression of KMT9α was previously observed to be associated with aggressive basal-like MIBC in an analysis of patients' tissue samples, a potential functional role of KMT9 in this type of cancer has not been investigated to date.

Synthetic glucocorticoids (GC), such as dexamethasone, are extensively used to treat chronic inflammation and autoimmune disorders. However, long-term treatments are limited by various side effects, including muscle atrophy. GC activities are mediated by the glucocorticoid receptor (GR), that regulates target gene expression in various tissues in association with cell-specific co-regulators.

Animal societies use nestmate recognition to protect against social cheaters and parasites. In most social insect societies, individuals recognize and exclude any non-nestmates and the roles of cuticular hydrocarbons as recognition cues are well documented. Some ambrosia beetles live in cooperatively breeding societies with farmed fungus cultures that are challenging to establish, but of very high value once established.

All Two-Loop Feynman Integrals for Five-Point One-Mass Scattering.

Phys Rev Lett

April 2024

Dipartimento di Fisica and Arnold-Regge Center, Università di Torino, and INFN, Sezione di Torino, Via P. Giuria 1, I-10125 Torino, Italy.

We compute the complete set of two-loop master integrals for the scattering of four massless particles and a massive one. Our results are ready for phenomenological applications, removing a major obstacle to the computation of complete next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections to processes such as the production of a H/Z/W boson in association with two jets at the LHC. Furthermore, they open the door to new investigations into the structure of quantum-field theories and provide precious analytic data for studying the mathematical properties of Feynman integrals.

We report the optical trapping of multiple ions localized at individual lattice sites of a one-dimensional optical lattice. We observe a fivefold increased range of axial dc-electric field strength for which ions can be optically trapped with high probability and an increase of the axial eigenfrequency by 2 orders of magnitude compared to an optical dipole trap without interference but of similar intensity. Our findings motivate an alternative pathway to extend arrays of trapped ions in size and dimension, enabling quantum simulations with particles interacting at long range.

This Letter presents the first study of Higgs boson production in association with a vector boson (V=W or Z) in the fully hadronic qqbb final state using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137  fb^{-1}. The vector bosons and Higgs bosons are each reconstructed as large-radius jets and tagged using jet substructure techniques. Dedicated tagging algorithms exploiting b-tagging properties are used to identify jets consistent with Higgs bosons decaying into bb[over ¯].
