Trauma-informed care (TIC) is a patient-centered, strength-based approach to caring for and empowering patients. The adolescent well visit is an opportune moment to assess and address the impact of trauma. Given the well-documented impact of trauma exposure on adolescent health, and the relationship present between social determinants of health and trauma, physicians and advanced practice practitioners are well positioned to utilize TIC in the medical visit.

Background: Drug-resistant tuberculosis is a growing public health threat, and early characterization of the resistance phenotype is essential for guiding treatment and mitigating the high mortality associated with the disease. However, the slow growth rate of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of tuberculosis, necessitates several weeks for conventional culture-dependent drug susceptibility testing (DST). In addition, there are no widely available molecular diagnostic assays for evaluating resistance to newer tuberculosis drugs or drugs with complex resistance mechanisms.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality, especially in low and lower-middle income countries. Data from the third iteration of the International Society of Nephrology Global Kidney Health Atlas (ISN-GKHA) were used to evaluate the organization of structures and services for the provision of AKI care in world countries and ISN regions. An international survey of key stakeholders (clinicians, policymakers, and patient advocates) from countries affiliated with the ISN was conducted from July to September 2022 to assess structures and services for AKI care across countries.

To date, studies of the role for epidermal integrin α3β1 in cutaneous wound re-epithelialization have produced conflicting results: wound studies in skin from global α3-null neonatal mice have implicated the integrin in promoting timely wound re-epithelialization, whereas studies in adult mice with constitutive, epidermal-specific α3β1 deletion have not. The objective of this study was to utilize a model of inducible α3β1 deletion in the epidermis to clarify the role of α3β1 in the healing of adult wounds. We utilized the recently developed transgenic K14::α3 mice (ie, inducible α3 epidermal knockout), permitting us to delete floxed alleles (α3) from epidermis just prior to wounding with topical treatment of 4-hydroxytamoxifen.
