One of the key hallmarks of Parkinson's disease is the disruption of lipid homeostasis in the brain, which plays a critical role in neuronal membrane integrity and function. Understanding how treadmill training impacts lipid restructuring and its subsequent influence on motor function could provide a basis for developing targeted non-pharmacological interventions for individuals living with early stage of PD. This study aims to investigate the effects of a treadmill training intervention on motor deficits induced by 6-OHDA in rats model of PD.

Marburg virus (MARV) disease (MVD) is an uncommon yet serious viral hemorrhagic fever that impacts humans and non-human primates. In humans, infection by the MARV is marked by rapid onset, high transmissibility, and elevated mortality rates, presenting considerable obstacles to the development of vaccines and treatments. Bats, particularly , are suspected to be natural hosts of MARV.

Dengue viruses (DENV) are transmitted to humans through mosquito bites and infect millions globally. DENV uses heparan sulfate (HS) for attachment and cell entry by binding the envelope protein to highly sulfated HS on target cells. Therefore, inhibiting the binding between DENV and HS could be a promising strategy for preventing DENV infection.

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) remains the leading cause of death worldwide. Lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels is a primary strategy to reduce ASCVD risk. Although statin therapy remains the initial therapy of choice to reduce LDL-C and ASCVD risk, statin intolerance and suboptimal LDL-C lowering response prompts the need for additional non-statin therapies.

The avian influenza is a serious infection caused by influenza virus that is native to birds. Avian influenza remains a global challenge due to high transmission and mortality rates. The highly pathogenic strain of H5N1 resulted in significant outbreaks and deaths globally since the late 1800s.

People living with sickle cell disease (SCD) experience complications indicative of an accelerated aging phenotype typified by early decline in physical function and increased risk for age-related conditions. Cellular senescence, measured by expression of p16 in peripheral T-lymphocytes, is recognized as one of the underlying contributors to organismal aging. To examine if cellular senescence is increased in SCD patients, we cross-sectionally measured and compared expression of p16 mRNA in peripheral blood T lymphocytes in 18 adolescents and young adults with SCD to 27 similarly aged individuals without SCD.

Objectives: This large database analysis aims to describe the incidence, timeline, and risk factors for viral and fungal infections after chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy.
Methods: We queried a global research network database, TriNetX, for patients who received CAR T-cell therapy, who were identified and followed for the development of viral and fungal infections. Baseline demographic, oncologic history, laboratory data and medication histories were collected.

Background: Depression is the most diagnosed mental health condition among people living with HIV. Collaborative care is an effective intervention for depression, typically delivered in primary care settings. The HIV Translating Initiatives for Depression into Effective Solutions (HITIDES) clinical intervention involves a depression care team housed off-site that supports depression care delivery by HIV care providers.

The recA gene, encoding Recombinase A (RecA) is one of three Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) genes encoding an in-frame intervening protein sequence (intein) that must splice out of precursor host protein to produce functional protein. Ongoing debate about whether inteins function solely as selfish genetic elements or benefit their host cells requires understanding of interplay between inteins and their hosts. We measured environmental effects on native RecA intein splicing within Mtb using a combination of western blots and promoter reporter assays.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic inflammatory disease accompanied by joint pain, bone degradation, and synovial inflammation. Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-1β play key roles in chronic inflammation, and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)3 is the first enzyme released by chondrocytes and synovial cells that promotes MMPs' degrading cartilage matrix (including collage II and aggrecan) function. Using an anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) rat model, GKD7 has shown anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

Background: Frailty is often more predictive of disease and mortality compared with chronological age. This study determined the impact of frailty on Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) risk and outcomes in a national veteran population.
Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of CDI and control veteran inpatients and outpatients from fiscal year 2003 to 2018.
