Background: Admission to the coronary care units (CCUs) and the patient's reduced interaction with family are regarded as important sources of anxiety. Family participation in care programs is pivotal to patient outcomes.

Objectives: The present study was conducted to determine the effect of a care program based on family participation on anxiety in patients with acute coronary syndrome.

Targeting Mitochondrial and Brain Injury Markers in Acquired Brain Injuries: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study with Melatonin.

Oxidative stress-induced mitochondrial damage is the main event in acquired brain injuries (ABI). This study aimed to evaluate the effects of melatonin, a mitochondria-targeted antioxidant, on mitochondrial and brain injury markers, and the clinical outcomes of patients with ABI. In this randomized controlled trial, intensive care unit (ICU) or neurology patients with ABI (n=60) received melatonin (21 mg/day) or placebo tablets, within the first 72 hours of injury onset for five days.

A label-free electrochemical biosensor based on 3D cubic Eu/CuO nanostructures with clover-like faces for the determination of anticancer drug cytarabine.

The present research utilized a simplified procedure for developing a novel electro-chemical DNA biosensor based on a carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with three-dimensional (3D) cubic Eu/CuO nanostructures with clover-like faces (Eu/CuO CLFNs). The modified electrode was applied to monitor electro-chemical interactions between dsDNA and cytarabine for the first time. Then, the decreased oxidation signal of guanine following the interactions between cytarabine and dsDNA was utilized as an indicator for selectively determining cytarabine using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV).

Empirically derived dietary patterns and their association with mental health: a cross-sectional sample of Iranian migraine patients (2019-2020).

Objectives: Based on a comprehensive search, we realized that there is no previous study conducted among migraine patients to assess the association between major dietary patterns and mental health. Therefore, the present study aims to explore the relationship between empirically-derived dietary patterns and depression, anxiety, and stress in a sample of Iranian migraine patients.

Methods: A total of 262 migraine patients (20-50 years) were selected through simple random sampling method for this study.

Associations between potential inflammatory properties of the diet and frequency, duration, and severity of migraine headaches: a cross-sectional study.

Despite a large body of literature on the association between the dietary inflammatory index (DII) and various chronic diseases, limited knowledge is available regarding the association between DII and migraine. Therefore, we assessed the relationship between the DII and migraine characteristics, including duration, frequency, and severity of migraine headaches, Headache Impact Test-6 (HIT-6), and serum levels of nitric oxide (NO). This population-based cross-sectional study was conducted from August 2019 to June 2020 among 262 patients (38 men and 224 women; 20-50 years).

Oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction following traumatic brain injury: From mechanistic view to targeted therapeutic opportunities.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the most prevalent causes of permanent physical and cognitive disabilities. TBI pathology results from primary insults and a multi-mechanistic biochemical process, termed as secondary brain injury. Currently, there are no pharmacological agents for definitive treatment of patients with TBI.

The effects of adeno/tonsillectomy on cardiopulmonary function based on echocardiography indices in children with primary snoring and mild obstructive sleep apnea.

Background: The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of adenotonsillectomy on heart function based on echocardiography indices in children with primary snoring (PS) and mild obstructive sleep apnea due to adenotonsillar hypertrophy (ATH).

Methods: 55 children (aged 7 to 11 years old) with PS and ATH who were a candidate for adenotonsillectomy from August 2018 to June 2019 evaluated. A history of Upper Respiratory Tract Obstruction was obtained, clinical examination was performed and the cases suspicious for moderate to severe degrees of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome were excluded.

Dietary nutrients' intake and sleep quality in peritoneal dialysis patients.

Sleep disturbances are common in dialysis patients. However, there is a lack of information on nutritional determinants of sleep disorders in dialysis patients. The objective of the current study was to investigate the association between nutrients' intake and sleep quality in peritoneal dialysis patients.

The Effects of Intravenous Vitamin C on Stress Response Severity in Abdominal Hysterectomy Following Prolonged Fasting Time.

Background: Inevitable prolonged fasting time before surgery leads to inflammatory reactions, surgery-related stress response, and consequently unfavorable outcomes; thus, developing strategies to mitigate these consequences is crucial.

Objectives: In this study, we evaluated the effect of ascorbic acid on stress response reduction in abdominal hysterectomy following prolonged fasting time.

Methods: Eligible women candidates for abdominal hysterectomy following prolonged fasting time were enrolled in the study and divided into 2 groups of vitamin C [group C; 1 g intravenously (IV) before surgery] and placebo (group P).

Anesthesia Aspects of Multivisceral Transplantation: A Case Series Study.

Background: Multi-visceral transplantation (MvTx) usually refers to the transplantation of more than three intra-abdominal organs. A successful MvTx requires strong multidisciplinary teamwork of transplant surgeons, anesthesiologists, and intensivists.

Case Presentation: We present five cases of MvTx with a history of short bowel syndrome admitted to the Abu-Ali Sina Hospital, Shiraz, Iran from May 2019 to January 2020 and describe anesthetic considerations in MvTx.

Background: There are no data on the association between clinical course and comorbidity in Iranian patients with COVID-19.

Aims: To determine noncommunicable disease (NCD), clinical characteristics and prognosis of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Isfahan, Islamic Republic of Iran.

Methods: This multicentric retrospective observational study was performed on all patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Isfahan from 17 February to 6 April 2020.

Impacts of FcγRIIB and FcγRIIIA gene polymorphisms on systemic lupus erythematous disease activity index.

Objective: Systemic lupus erythematous (SLE) disease is a chronic autoimmune disease with unknown etiology that can involve different organs. Polymorphisms in Fcγ receptors have been identified as genetic factors in susceptibility to SLE. This study was aimed to investigate effects of two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within FcγRIIB and FcγRIIIA genes on systemic lupus erythematous disease activity index (SLEDAI) in an Iranian population.

Factors associated with adherence to treatment in Iranian patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

Background: In this study, we investigated several socioeconomic, clinical, and psychological factors associated with medication adherence in a sample of Iranian patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Materials And Methods: This study was conducted on 110 IBD patients from 2013 to 2014 in Isfahan, Iran. The patients were invited to complete three anonymous questionnaires including the Hospital and Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS) for assessing the levels of anxiety and depression; IBD Questionnaire-Short Form (IBDQ-9) for the quality of life; and a visual analog scale assessing the medication adherence.

Associations between adherence to Mediterranean dietary pattern and frequency, duration, and severity of migraine headache: A cross-sectional study.

Background: The present study was conducted to explore the association between adherence to Mediterranean dietary pattern and migraine headache features including frequency, duration, and severity, as well as patients' migraine-related disabilities among the Iranian population diagnosed with migraine.

Methods:  In the present cross-sectional study on 262 migraine patients aged 20-50 years old, a validated 168-item, food frequency questionnaire was used to assess the dietary intakes of participants. The Mediterranean diet score was calculated for each subject using nine pre-defined dietary components and ranged from 0-9.

Effects of the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet on clinical, quality of life and mental health outcomes in women with migraine: a randomised controlled trial.

The relationship between the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet and clinical, quality of life and mental health outcomes in migraine is unknown. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a parallel-group, randomised controlled trial to evaluate the effect of the DASH diet on these health outcomes in women with migraine. Of 102 eligible women (20-50 years), fifty one randomised to the DASH and fifty one to the usual dietary advice (control) groups completed a 12-week intervention.

Impact of COVID-19 Infection on Neonatal Birth Outcomes.

Introduction: There is limited data on newborns born to mothers with COVID-19 infection. This multicenter cohort study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and outcomes of neonates born to mothers with and without COVID-19 infection to fill a gap in the literature review.
