DUCTULAR REACTION AT THE EARLY AND LATE STAGES OF BILIARY OBSTRUCTION: IS THE MECHANISM THE SAME?

Ductular reaction (DR) is one of the classical features of biliary obstruction in humans as well as in experimental models. It is the histological phenomenon expressed by the increased number of ductular profiles (DPs), which is especially intensively studied in rodents' model of common bile duct ligation (CBDL). However, some issues related with DR in long-term CBDL are not clear enough.

[HISTOLOGICAL AND IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL PROFILE OF THE MYOCARDIUM DURING ALCOHOL INTOXICATION IN THE EXPERIMENT].

The purpose of this study was to identify early structural and conjugated with them molecular changes in the myocardium, stroma and blood vessels under experimental alcohol intoxication, with histological and immunohistological methods. The experiments were carried out on white male rats with initial body weight 180-200gg. Accordingly, specific tasks were carried out 2 series of experiments: I series - acute alcohol intoxication, II series - chronic alcohol intoxication.

The Attitudes, Needs, and Requirements at End of Life in the Republic of Georgia (Comparative Analysis of Groups of Patients With Cancer and Elders).

Introduction: In developing a model of palliative care, the attitudes, needs, and requirements of its beneficiaries recognizing the limited remaining life expectancy need to be met. We aimed to map and compare these issues at the end of life in the groups of patients with advanced cancer and elderly individuals.

Materials And Methods: The prospective study based on the analysis of semistructured interviews was conducted.

MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ANGIOGENESIS IN ADENOCARCINOMA OF COLON.

The study of the process of angiogenesis and microcirculation with the help of modern methods of morphological research including type and maturity of the tumor, location and is considered a problem of special importance and value. The purpose of this research is to study the particularity of angiogenesis and microcirculation in colon adenocarcinomas. The human tissue samples of colon adenocarcinoma (19 cases, 40 observation sites) were studied by light microscopic, electron- microscopic, electron-radiographic and immunohistochemical methods.

Mismatch between physicians and family members views on communications about patients with chronic incurable diseases receiving care in critical and intensive care settings in Georgia: a quantitative observational survey.

Background: Physicians working in critical and intensive care settings encounter death of chronic incurable patients on a daily basis; however they have scant skills on how to communicate with the patients and their family members. The aim of the present survey is to examine communication of critical and intensive care physicians with patients' family members receiving treatment due to chronic incurable diseases/conditions and to compare the views of families with physicians working in critical and intensive care settings.

Methods: The survey was conducted in four cities of Georgia (Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi and Telavi) in 2014.

PRE-HOSPITAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES FOR ELDERLY POPULATION IN TBILISI.

The importance of the issue is determined by the current demographic situation in Georgia and the world in general. The trend of growing the number of older people and the increase of the life span is obvious. At the same time in the number of countries, particularly in the developed western countries and Japan, the decrease of birth rate is noticed.

Helicobacter and hepatobiliary diseases: conceptual view and review of the literature.

Authors conducted the analysis of multiple data concerning the possible role of Helicobacters in pathogenesis of different hepato-biliary disorders in clinical as well as in experimental settings. Two pathways of Helicobacters penetration into hepato-biliary system - "translocation" and "ascending way" - are discussed. Selection of "control group" in both - clinical and experimental studies - is identified as one of crucial problems.

Treatment characteristics in elderly.

The pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of medications, their therapeutic and toxic effects are age dependant. In the treatment of old people polypharmacy is widely used. The most common results of polypharmacy are increased adverse drug reactions, drug-drug interactions.

Age-related changes of sex hormones--level among males in populations with high index of longevity.

The phenomenon of longevity as a kind of model of "physiological" aging has been the main research subject of the Department of Gerontology Institute of Morphology (Georgia) since 1970. The researches were conducted under the Multiplan complex program "Bio-anthropological and social and ethnic investigation of nations and ethnic groups with high index of longevity" in the "long-liver" populations of Georgia. The research aimed at studying the changes in the content of the sex steroids and gonadotrophic hormones in the blood plasma of the healthy men aged from 45 to 90 and more years and residing in Georgia.
