Successful Management of Severe and Refractory Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA) in a Sickle Cell Disease Patient With Bortezomib.

Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) is a multifactorial disease that causes immune-mediated red blood cell destruction, resulting in anemia and hemolysis symptoms. Despite a significant understanding of its pathogenesis, the precise causes of AIHA remain largely unclear and are thought to be multifactorial. In this paper, we presented a case of sickle cell anemia who developed severe AIHA that failed to maintain response to multiple treatment lines, including steroids, intravenous immunoglobulin, rituximab, and immune suppressive medications.

Prevalence and risk factors of diabetic retinopathy in Basrah, Iraq.

This study aimed to measure the prevalence and risk factors of diabetic retinopathy (DR) among patients with diabetes mellitus aged 20 to 82 years attending the Faiha Diabetes, Endocrine, and Metabolism Center (FDEMC) in Basrah. A cross-sectional study was conducted at FDEMC, including 1542 participants aged 20 to 82 from January 2019 to December 2019. Both eyes were examined for evidence of DR by a mobile nonmydriatic camera, and statistical analysis was performed to measure the prevalence rates (95% CI) for patients with different characteristics.

Colonoscopy Colorectal Cancer Screening Programme in Southern Iraq: Challenges, Knowledge Gaps and Future Potential.

Data on current colorectal cancer screening practices in Iraq are limited. This study aimed to better understand the current colorectal cancer screening practice and perceived barriers. The project also aimed to use UK expertise to introduce Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) in Basra, Iraq.
