In the current study, new pyranopyrazole analogues (9a-d and 10a-d) were synthesized through a one-pot condensation reaction of 2-arylacetohydrazide. The inhibitory abilities were investigated against the XO enzyme through experimental and molecular docking analyses. The synthesis studies were based on ultrasound-mediated condensation reactions of four-component systems containing 2-arylacetohydrazide, ethyl acetoacetate, indoline-2,3-dione, and ethyl 2-cyanoacetate/malononitrile in various solvents and catalysts to yield pyranopyrazole analogues (9a-d and 10a-d) in a short reaction time and remarkably favorable yields ranging from 79-92%.

Background: Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a severe neuromuscular disorder, often leading to wheelchair dependence by age 13 with limited treatment options, largely relying on glucocorticosteroids. We assessed the efficacy and safety of vamorolone, a modified synthetic corticosteroid, for DMD.

Methods: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis using seven databases including prospective studies comparing vamorolone with glucocorticosteroids or placebo in DMD patients.

Background: Lung cancer (LC) has poor survival outcomes mainly due to diagnosis at late stages. This study explored the anticipated time to seek medical advice for possible LC symptoms and barriers to early presentation in Palestine.

Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited adult participants from hospitals, primary healthcare centers, and public spaces of 11 governorates using convenience sampling.

Purpose: Having an accurate knowledge of what truly increases the likelihood of developing lung cancer (LC) may help people make better decisions about lifestyle changes that could potentially lower their risk. This study assessed current beliefs in LC causation myths among Palestinians and explored factors associated with displaying good recognition of such myths.

Methods: A national cross-sectional study was conducted from July 2019 to March 2020.

Background: The majority of lung cancer (LC) cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage. Poor awareness of LC symptoms is a contributor to late diagnosis. This study aimed to assess the awareness of LC symptoms among Palestinians, and to examine the factors associated with displaying good awareness.

It is necessary to understand early perception, behavior, and knowledge of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and preventive practices in relation to suggested policies and information accessible to the Palestinian population during the early stages of the pandemic. The aim of this research is to contribute to this understanding for the purpose of affecting future practical preventive policies that can be implemented and adapted in Palestine in order to shape a new reflective practices model to face any future epidemic crisis of any type. A cross-sectional design was used to conduct the study over 3 weeks in April 2020 and an online survey was disseminated in all areas of Palestine.

Qutaiba Agbaria, PhD, is lecturer, Al-Najah National University, Nablus, Palestine. Mustafa Tekke, PhD, is assistant professor and lecturer, Faculty of Education, Düzce University, Düzce, Turkey.

This investigation applied a cross-sectional comparative methodology to examine the levels, predictors, and consequences of religious struggles among a multinational sample of 706 Muslims recruited in three universities in Israel/Palestine, Turkey, and Malaysia. Participants were asked to provide demographics and complete measures of religious struggles, satisfaction with life, and generalized anxiety. Three main findings emerged from the study: (1) In general, participants reported low levels of religious struggles; (2) Turks scored significantly higher than both Palestinians and Malaysians on religious struggles; (3) higher levels of generalized anxiety were predicted by higher levels of religious struggles among Malaysians only, and lower levels of satisfaction with life were predicted by higher levels of religious struggles among Palestinians and Turks only.

Symmetric supercapacitors are fabricated by carbon nanofibers (CNF) and activated carbon (AC) using similar proportions of 7 wt% polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) polymer binder in an aqueous electrolyte. In this study, a comparison of porous texture and electrochemical performances between CNFs and AC based supercapacitors was carried out. Electrodes were assembled in the cell without a current collector.

Background: A normal anatomy of coronary arteries is important to have adequate cardiac muscle blood supply especially during extraneous physical activities. This case report describes a rare coronary anomaly in which the accessory coronary artery arose from the right coronary artery, reentered the left anterior descending coronary artery, and then ran as a single vessel.

Case Presentation: We present a case of a coronary anomaly in a 47-year-old white man who presented with atypical angina.

A hybrid approach for quantifying aortic valve stenosis using impedance cardiography and echocardiography.

BMC Cardiovasc Disord

January 2016

Department of Cardiology, Zentralklinik Bad Berka, Robert-Koch-Allee 9, 99437, Bad Berka, Germany.

Background: Impedance cardiography (IC) is a noninvasive modality that utilizes changes in impedance across the thorax to assess hemodynamic parameters, including stroke volume (SV). This study compared aortic valve area (AVA) as assessed by a hybrid approach of transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and impedance cardiography (IC) to AVA determined at cardiac catheterization using the Gorlin equation.

Methods: A total of 30 patients with moderate to severe aortic stenosis underwent AVA measurement using two different approaches: using the continuity equation (CE) in a hybrid method combining IC and TTE (AVA = stroke by volume impedance cardiography/trans-aortic-VTI) and using the Gorlin equation.

The synthesis of the new diethyl ammonium salt of diethylammonium(E)-5-(1,5-bis(4-fluorophenyl)-3-oxopent-4-en-1-yl)-1,3-diethyl-4,6-dioxo-2-thioxohexaydropyrimidin-5-ide 3 via a regioselective Michael addition of N,N-diethylthiobarbituric acid 1 to dienone 2 is described. In 3, the carboanion of the thiobarbituric moiety is stabilized by the strong intramolecular electron delocalization with the adjacent carbonyl groups and so the reaction proceeds without any cyclization. The molecular structure investigations of 3 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction as well as DFT computations.

November 2010

Division of Food, Meat Safety and Hygiene, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Al-Najah National University, Nablus, West Bank.

Based on ELISA results from randomly selected serum samples taken from 128 cattle from different administrative and urban districts in the federal state of Lower Saxony in Germany a seroprevalence estimate of Taenia saginata cysticercosis in this area was derived. This estimate was subsequently used to calculate the sample size required in an epidemiological study to determine the actual prevalence of this infection in the cattle population (n = 2 604 767) in this federal state. The sample size was calculated as 1518 and the samples were collected according to the distribution of cattle among the 48 administrative and urban districts in Lower Saxony.
