Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has rapidly become a global health concern. The entry of the virus into host cells is facilitated by the transmembrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2) receptor, and genetic variations in the TMPRSS2 gene may influence disease susceptibility. However, there is a lack of knowledge regarding TMPRSS2 genetic variants and haplotypes in the Jordanian population.

Evaluation of of the family Boraginaceae during previous investigations determined numerous therapeutic potentials against inflammatory-related diseases. The present study evaluates the phytochemical, acute toxicity, and hepatoprotective effects of methanolic extracts of (MEAL) against thioacetamide (TAA)-induced liver injury in rats. The phytochemical profiling of MEAL followed a Folin-Ciocalteu and 10% AlCl3 procedure using a spectrophotometer.

Compared to antimicrobial agents, anti-adhesive surfaces can reduce bacteria adhesion and biofilm formation in catheters, providing better selectivity, efficiency, and device life span. In this research, novel anionic surface biomaterials were created and tested to reduce microbial adhesion and colonization in medical device coating. Maleic anhydride (MA) was polymerized with 2-HEMA in varying amounts to produce a p(HEMA--MA) hydrogel copolymer.

Ethanolic extracts of seasonally collected natural bee products (honey, propolis, royal jelly (RJ), and bee venom (BV)) were tested for their potential as antimicrobial agents against antibiotic-resistant bacteria and fungi. These extracts exhibited various inhibitory effects on antibiotic-resistant bacteria (Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA, Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, and Haemophilus influenzae) and fungi (Aspergillus brasiliensis and Candida albicans), with the exception of S. pneumonia, which was not inhibited by honey and RJ extracts, and P.

This study investigated how normal corneal stromal profiles change with age, sex, and corrected intraocular pressure (IOP). A retrospective observational analytical study was conducted in Jordan, employing anterior segment spectral-domain optical coherence tomography AS-OCT, a measured corneal stromal thickness (CST) in 134 eyes across the central 6-mm corneal diameter. People between the ages of 18 and 79 were included, and the mean CST values were linked to age groups, IOP, and cis-gender populations, with the exclusion of certain eye conditions.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess malnutrition and muscle mass depletion risk in gastrointestinal cancer patients, exploring the differences between gastric and colorectal cancer, with a focus on gender0specific variations and dietary intake. It also examined whether muscle depletion mediates the relationship between dietary intake and malnutrition risk.
Methods: A sample of 100 Jordanian pre-operative gastrointestinal cancer patients (60 male, 40 female) with gastric or colorectal cancer were assessed for malnutrition risk using the malnutrition universal screening tool (MUST) and for muscle depletion using fat-free mass index (FFMI) and mid-upper arm muscle area (MUAMA).

Data imputation strategies are necessary to address the prevalent difficulty of missing values in data observation and recording operations. This work utilizes diverse imputation methods to forecast and complete absent values inside a financial time-series dataset, specifically the daily prices of gold. The predictive accuracy of imputed data is assessed in comparison to the original entire dataset to ensure its robustness.

The global burden of foodborne illnesses remains high due to consumption of contaminated food. Vigilant attention from all, particularly food handlers, is needed to address food safety concerns and minimize the risks that affect consumer health, international business, and tourism worldwide. The main objectives of this study were to: (i) evaluate the food safety knowledge, attitudes, commitment (involving affective, continuance, and normative types), and practices of students studying subjects related to food sciences in Jordanian universities and (ii) examine the impact of knowledge and attitude on commitment, and subsequently, on relevant practices using structural equation modeling.

The goal of this study is to examine the reactions of tomato () plants to both untreated greywater and treated greywater filtered through a zeolite. In a randomized block arrangement, tomato plants were irrigated with greywater, treated greywater, or tap water. Number and total fecal coliforms were found in soil, tomato leaves, and fruits.

The molecular confinement within rigid macrocyclic receptors can trigger catalytic activity and steer the selectivity of organic reactions. In this work, the dimerization of methylcyclopentadiene (MCPD) isomers in the presence of cucurbit[7]uril (CB7) was found to display, besides a large rate acceleration, a striking regioselectivity in aqueous solution at pH 3, different from the thermodynamic products predominating in the absence of the supramolecular catalyst. Among the different possible regioisomers and diastereomers, the endo-3,7-dimethyl-3a,4,7,7a-tetrahydro-1H-4,7-methanoindene adduct was selectively formed, which is otherwise found only as a minor product in the dimerization of neat MCPD or in commercial dimeric mixtures.

Dopamine (DP), an essential neurotransmitter implicated in diverse brain functions, was investigated as a guest molecule within the host cavities of cucurbit[7]uril (CB7) and β-cyclodextrin (βCD) using isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), UV-titration, H NMR, molecular dynamics (MD) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The experimentally estimated binding constants of the 1:1 complexes of DP with CB7 and βCD were found to be 5.3 × 10 and 2.

Background: Patients with high-risk feet and diabetes are prone to develop diabetes-related foot ulcers (DFUs). To prevent DFUs and their costs and impacts on diabetes mellitus (DM) patients' productivity and quality of life, patients' foot self-care (FSC) practices are essential to screen for DFUs. Our study aimed to assess the self-efficacy and outcome expectations about FSC and evaluate the knowledge about DFUs among patients with DM in Jordan.

Objectives: In this study, our goal is to determine the average age of initiation of smoking and to discuss factors associated with smoking initiation and how they differ among different age groups. Such data may provide inspiration for the government to implement strong and comprehensive tobacco control policies.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was applied to a random sample of at least 370 participants who were categorized into four age groups ((15 years - 24 years), (25 years - 44 years), (45 years - 64 years), and (65+ years)) from all districts of al-Balqa Jordan using a modified questionnaire made on google forms.

Etoricoxib is a widely used anti-inflammatory drug, but its safety profile concerning cardiovascular and renal health remains inadequately explored. This study aimed to assess the nephro- and cardiotoxic effects of etoricoxib in a murine model, with a focus on its impact on arachidonic acid-metabolizing enzymes and beta-adrenergic receptors associated with drug-induced toxicity. Thirty-five mice were randomly assigned to five groups: control, low-dose etoricoxib, high-dose etoricoxib, low-dose celecoxib, and high-dose celecoxib (a well-known nephro- and cardiotoxic NSAID).

Background: An accurate estimate of the survival and mortality at the initial trauma evaluation is essential to ensure appropriate triage and stratification of the patients for progressive care. One of the recognized tools for predicting mortality is the BIG Score, composed of admission base deficit, international normalized ratio (INR), and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). This study evaluates the BIG scale in predicting survival and mortality rates among pediatric trauma patients.
