To report a case of autosomal recessive bestrophinopathy (ARB) that presented with macular hole retinal detachment (MHRD). A case report. A 31-year-old male patient presented with rapid deterioration of vision in the left eye.

Clinical and multimodal imaging characteristics of eyes with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease: An Egyptian experience.

Background: Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease is a vision-threatening inflammatory disorder that is challenging in diagnosis and management.

Methods: Retrospective, record-based analysis of 54 eyes belonging to 27 adult patients that fulfilled the revised diagnostic criteria for VKH between January 2018 and January 2021. Demographic, clinical, and imaging data on presentation and during follow-up visits were collected for each patient.

Perfluorocarbon liquid-assisted vitreo-dissection in eyes with firmly adherent posterior hyaloid.

Background: Induction of posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) is a critical step during pars plana vitrectomy. Multiple techniques and utilities have been proposed for assistance with this step with no consensus on the safest and most effective means, especially in eyes with firmly adherent posterior hyaloid. Viscodissection or the utilization of perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) can be used to dissect the posterior hyaloid and widely adherent epiretinal membranes.

Purpose: To provide an updated, critical summary of the literature on the topic of persistent subretinal fluid (PSF) following successful rhegmatogenous retinal detachment surgery.

Methods: Narrative literature review.

Results: PSF remains an insufficiently studied topic.

Bilateral macular retinitis in patients with presumed rift valley fever from Sudan: A case series.

Background: Epidemic retinitis occurs seasonally following febrile infections in endemic regions. Rift valley fever (RVF) is endemic to Sudan, with a recent outbreak starting in 2019.

Methods: Retrospective case series of 3 patients travelling from Sudan with post-febrile retinitis, and with a history and clinical picture suggestive of RVF retinitis.

Methanol Intoxication Presenting With Bilateral Optic Neuritis and Paracentral Acute Middle Maculopathy.

A 52-year-old male presented nine days following accidental methanol ingestion with a drop of vision in both eyes. A complete ophthalmic assessment was performed, with a referral to a neurologist for multidisciplinary management. On ophthalmological evaluation, visual acuity was hand motion (HM) bilaterally with swollen optic discs.

Characteristics and Outcomes of a Series of COVID-Associated Mucormycosis Patients in Two Different Settings in Egypt Through the Third Pandemic Wave.

Purpose: To report on the underlying risk factors, clinical characteristics, presentation, and survival of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) associated mucormycosis (CAM) cases referred for ophthalmological consultation in two different Egyptian settings during the third viral pandemic wave (April to August of 2021).

Methods: A multicentric, retrospective analysis involving one public and two private hospitals in metropolitan Cairo, and two university hospitals in upper Egypt (Aswan and Assuit). Cases that fulfilled the diagnostic criteria of mucormycosis, with a prior or concurrent COVID-19 infection, were included.

Analysis of a two-year independent screening effort for retinopathy of prematurity in rural Egypt.

Background: The third epidemic of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) has majorly involved middle income countries in which tailored screening and local guidelines require development. The data regarding ROP prevalence and cutoff numbers for screening in Egypt are lacking.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of an independent screening effort spanning 2 years (February 2019 to February 2021) and involving 32 neonatal care units within Sharkia governorate, Egypt.

Bilateral Simultaneous Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy following Total Knee Arthroplasty with Epidural Block.

Ischemic optic neuropathy (ION) resulting in perioperative vision loss (POVL) is a rare occurrence following nonocular procedures. Bilateral simultaneous anterior ION (AION) is even rarer, and no cases have been reported after central neuraxial block. We report a case of bilateral simultaneous AION, confirmed by multimodal imaging, in a 66-year-old male patient who underwent total knee arthroplasty under epidural anesthesia in which episodes of hypotension-one intraoperatively and one late postoperatively-had occurred.

Navigated perilesional transcranial magnetic stimulation can improve post-stroke visual field defect: A double-blind sham-controlled study.

Background: Visual field defects (VFD) usually do not show improvement beyond 12 weeks from their onset. It has been shown that repetitive presentation of a stimulus to areas of residual vision in cases of visual field defect can improve vision. The counterpart of these areas in the brain are the partially damaged brain regions at the perilesional areas where plasticity can be enhanced.

Experience with Intravitreal Ranibizumab as an Adjunct to Ablation Therapy in Eyes with Exudative Coats' Disease.

Background: Coats' disease is a rare entity with retinal vascular telangiectasia that can progress to exudative retinal detachment, neovascular glaucoma, and a blind painful eye requiring enucleation. Despite recent therapeutic advances decreasing the need for enucleation, no consensus exists about the optimum management of exudative Coats' disease. The use of intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agents as an adjunct to ablation therapy has been shown to achieve favorable outcomes, but some reports suggest an increased incidence of vitreoretinal (VR) fibrosis and tractional retinal detachment (TRD).
