Most of the agricultural workers are potentially exposed to pesticides through different routes. Inhalation exposures may result in numerous diseases that can adversely affect an individual's health and capacity to perform at work. The aim of this study was to determine the cytotoxic potential of cypermethrin pesticide on cultured human hepatocarcinoma (HepG2) cells.

Peritoneal metastasis (PM) following primary resection of colorectal cancer is common. The combined use of cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy has significantly improved the survival outcome of patients with colorectal PM (CRPM). Diagnosing and treating early PM is essential as its extent is correlated with poorer outcomes.

Background: The effect of a weekend compared with a weekday hospital admission on patient outcomes after an acute coronary syndrome is unclear. This study aims to determine whether collectively there is a weekend effect in acute coronary syndrome.

Method: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies examining the association between weekend compared to weekday admission at any time of the day and early mortality (in-hospital or 30-day).

In the present study, stable copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) were successfully prepared in the hydrogel matrix. The prepared nanocomposite (HCuNPs) was characterized via x-ray diffraction (XRD), electron microscopy (TEM), and energy-dispersive (EDX) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopic (XPS) studies. The wide scan XPS spectra support the presence of C, N and O in neat hydrogel; while, the XPS spectra of HCuNPs demonstrate the presence of Cu along with C, N, and O elements.

Gadolinium oxide (GdO) nanoparticles (GNPs) are applied in industrial products, for example, additives, optical glass, and catalysis. There are various suggestions of metal nanoparticles paradigm but the underlying basic mechanism about the toxicity of metal nanoparticles, for example GNPs, remains unclear. This experiment was done to measure the effective toxicity of GNPs (10, 25, 50, and 100 µg/mL) over 24 and 48 h and to evaluate toxicity mechanism in human neuronal (SH-SY5Y) cells.

Body dysmorphic disorder: history and curiosities.

Wien Med Wochenschr

October 2017

Department of Nuclear Physics, Sub-nuclear and Radiation, G. Marconi University, Rome, Italy.

Body dysmorphic disorder is a chronic psychiatric disorder characterized by excessive preoccupation with an absent or minimal physical deformity. It causes severe distress and impairs normal functioning. In the last centuries, this disorder has been mentioned in the medical literature by important mental health practitioners by different names, such as "dysmorphophobia" or "dermatologic hypochondriasis".

Persistent Müllerian duct syndrome (PMDS) is a rare, sex-limited, autosomal recessive disorder representing male pseudo-hermaphroditism. It is observed in males with the presence of female reproductive organs such as the uterus, cervix, and bilateral fallopian tubes along with normally developed male reproductive organs. It generally occurs during embryogenesis due to mutation in anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) gene, i.

Introduction: The infantile colic is a difficult experience met by parents in the first few months of an infant's life. This may lead to increased discomfort for infants as well as psychological distress for mothers. This study aimed at assessing the baseline knowledge of mothers in Saudi Arabia about infantile colic mainly in regard to the etiology and management.

Objective: The authors aimed to explore the relationship between the expression/polymorphisms of and susceptibility to colon cancer development in the Saudi Arabian population.

Methods: In total, blood samples from 115 patients with colon cancer and 102 participants without colon cancer were analyzed in this study. Three single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were selected from the gene, including two sites within the gene's promoter region (rs352144 and rs187084) and one site in a intron region (rs5743839).

Background: Cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIPEC) is an effective treatment for peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) from multiple origins, however is associated with increased complications compared to conventional gastrointestinal surgery. The aetiology of enterocutaneous fistulas (ECF) in most cases is a result of various contributing factors and therefore remains a major clinical problem, occurring in 4-34% of patients post-CRS. The aim of this study was to analyze the incidence and outcome of ECF following CRS/HIPEC.

Background: Blunt thoracic trauma can rarely result in coronary artery injury. Blunt trauma can result in occlusion of any of the coronary arteries or can lead to its rupture and bleeding. Traumatic coronary artery occlusion can lead to myocardial infarction, while its rupture and bleeding can result in hemopericardium and cardiac tamponade, and can be rapidly fatal.

August 2016

HealthPEER (Health Professions Education and Education Research), Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Context: Although research from Western contexts suggests that considerable inequalities for female medical educators exist in the workplace, we do not yet know the views and experiences of women within non-Western contexts. By examining the influence of context, intersecting identities and language use, this study explores female medical educators' views and experiences of gender, career progression and leadership in academic medicine in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

Methods: We conducted individual interviews employing narrative interviewing techniques with 25 female medical educators from five schools in the KSA (June to December 2014).

Previous experimental studies on thermostable lipase from Shewanella putrefaciens suggested the maximum activity at higher temperatures, but with little information on its conformational profile. In this study, the three-dimensional structure of lipase was predicted and a 60 ns molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was carried out at temperatures ranging from 300 to 400 K to better understand its thermostable nature at the molecular level. MD simulations were performed in order to predict the optimal activity of thermostable lipase.

How Much Information is Lost When You Only Collect One 24-Hour Urine Sample during the Initial Metabolic Evaluation?

J Urol

October 2016

Divisions of Endourology and Health Services Research, Department of Urology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Electronic address:

Purpose: During the initial metabolic evaluation the need for 1 vs 2, 24-hour urine collections is debated. While data suggest that mean urine chemistry measures are similar on consecutive samples, it remains unclear how much, if any, information is lost when only 1 sample is collected.

Materials And Methods: Using analytical files from Litholink Corporation® (1995 to 2013) we identified adults with kidney stones who underwent initial metabolic testing.

MERTK is an essential component of the signaling network that controls phagocytosis in retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), the loss of which results in photoreceptor degeneration. Previous proof-of-concept studies have demonstrated the efficacy of gene therapy using human MERTK (hMERTK) packaged into adeno-associated virus (AAV2) in treating RCS rats and mice with MERTK deficiency. The purpose of this study was to assess the safety of gene transfer via subretinal administration of rAAV2-VMD2-hMERTK in subjects with MERTK-associated retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
