Purpose: Acute liver failure (ALF) and acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF) are associated with significant mortality and morbidity. Extracorporeal liver support (ECLS) devices have been used as a bridge to liver transplant; however, the efficacy and safety of ECLS are unclear. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to examine the efficacy and safety of ECLS in liver failure.

Introduction: In modern surgical era, local haemostatic agents and blood components such as recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa) have expanded surgeons' armamentarium in controlling "surgical" and "nonsurgical bleeding". We report a case of intraoperative thrombosis and cardiac arrest involving use of local haemostatic agent in intraoperative cell salvage and rFVIIa administration in extended right hepatectomy.
Presentation Of Case: A 46-year-old lady underwent extended right hepatectomy using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and autotransfusion with ICS for metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumour.

Background: Thymine-DNA glycosylase (TDG) is an essential DNA-repair enzyme which works in both epigenetic regulation and genome maintenance. It is also responsible for efficient correction of multiple endogenous DNA lesions which occur commonly in mammalian genomes. Research of genetic variants such as SNPs, resulting in disease, is predicted to yield clinical advancements through the identification of sensitive genetic markers and the development of disease prevention and therapy.

Inorganic nanoparticles based on magnetite were used to improve the mechanical, thermal, and magnetic properties of microporous cryogel polymer composites. Here we report the synthesis of microporous cryogel based on the crosslinked sodium vinyl sulfonate (Na-VS) and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid sodium salt (Na-AMPS). The magnetite nanoparticles were incorporated into Na-VS/Na-AMPS cryogel networks either during its crosslinking polymerization or by the technique after its crosslinking.
