In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), sedentary lifestyle, along with food choices and portion sizes, have increased considerably and this has resulted in the soaring risk of diabetes.

Stress, Burnout, and Associated Risk Factors in Medical Students.

Objectives To determine the prevalence of and the risk factors associated with burnout and stress for medical students in Saudi Arabia. Methods A cross-sectional, survey-based study was distributed between January and February 2018 among all 500 medical students from the first to fifth years in a medical college; 356 of the students responded (71.2% response rate).

Effect of aluminum loading on structural and morphological characteristics of ZnO nanoparticles for heavy metal ion elimination.

The aim of this work consists on the synthesis of a nanomaterial for heavy metal ion removal from aqueous solutions. Al-doped ZnO (ZnO:Alx%) nanopowders with 0 to 5% Al content are prepared via an amended sol-gel method. The morphology and microstructure of the prepared ZnO:Alx% are probed by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray particles diffraction (XRD) analysis, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and elemental mapping.

Volume-Time Index Is Not an Indicator of Outcome for Patients Undergoing CRS/HIPEC for Treatment of High-Grade Appendiceal Carcinomatosis.

Background/aim: Completeness of cytoreduction score (CC-score) and tumour grade have been shown to be independent prognostic factors in patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) for the treatment of high-grade appendiceal carcinomatosis (PMCA). In patients with colorectal cancer with peritoneal metastases (CRPM) that undergo CRS/HIPEC, volume time index (VTI) has been shown to be an independent prognostic factor for overall survival (OS). This analysis was conducted to evaluate VTI as a prognostic factor in PMCA.

Macular corneal dystrophy with isolated peripheral Descemet membrane deposits.

Purpose: Macular Corneal Dystrophy (MCD, MIM #217800) is a category 1 corneal stromal dystrophy as per the current IC3D classification. While characterized by macular stromal deposits, we report a case of MCD type II with isolated bilateral peripheral Decemet membrane opacities, describing the clinical features and results of screening the gene and serum sulfated keratan sulfate levels.

Observations: A 68-year-old man with an unremarkable past medical and family history presented with bilateral progressive decrease in vision.

The reaction of 4-(adamantan-1-yl)-3-thiosemicarbazide with various aromatic aldehydes yielded the corresponding thiosemicarbazones . 1-Adamantyl isothiocyanate was reacted with 1-methylpiperazine or piperidine to yield the corresponding -(adamantan-1-yl)carbothioamides and , respectively. The latter was reacted with benzyl or substituted benzyl bromides to yield the -arylmethyl derivatives .

Coffee production in southern Saudi Arabian highlands: Current status and water conservation.

Work aimed at assessing status and introducing water conservation regimes for coffee production in southern Saudi Arabian highlands. Data on farm locations, altitudes, areas, practices, irrigation, tree density, and annual coffee production were analyzed. Field experiment using chlorophyll fluorescence and different irrigation regimes was conducted to examine effects of reducing irrigation frequency on photosynthesis.

Organically Modified Nanoclay Filled Thin-Film Nanocomposite Membranes for Reverse Osmosis Application.

This study validates, for the first time, the effectiveness of two nanoclays, that is, cloisite (CS)-15A and montmorillonite (MNT) at the polyamide (PA) active layer in the reverse osmosis (RO) membrane. Cloisite-15A is natural montmorillonite modified with dimethyl dihydrogenated tallow quaternary ammonium salt. Thin-film composite (TFC) membranes were fabricated by the interfacial polymerization (IP) process between the trimesoylchloride (TMC)-n-hexane solution and m-phenylenediamine (MPD)-aqueous solution; the IP process took place on a polysulfone support sheet.

Purpose: Acute liver failure (ALF) and acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF) are associated with significant mortality and morbidity. Extracorporeal liver support (ECLS) devices have been used as a bridge to liver transplant; however, the efficacy and safety of ECLS are unclear. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to examine the efficacy and safety of ECLS in liver failure.

The Use of Alcohol versus Dry Care for the Umbilical Cord in Newborns: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized and Non-randomized Studies.

Inadequate cord care in neonates is an important modifiable risk factor of cord stump infection, sepsis, and neonatal death, particularly in countries with limited resources. Dry cord care and alcohol 70% are commonly used in multiple developing countries. There is a need to investigate the efficacy and safety of both the cord care to achieve the best outcomes in neonates during this critical period of life.
