Diabetes mellitus represents a major burden in Saudi Arabia where seven million (20% of population) are living with diabetes. This article reviews the literature on usage of traditional and complementary medicine (T&CM) therapies among Saudi diabetic patients, focusing in particular on identifying the prevalence as well as discussing their safety and efficacy. Three databases (PubMed, Cochrane, and ScienceDirect) were searched prior to December 10, 2017, for articles published in peer-reviewed journals that reported primary data on the use of traditional and complementary medicine therapies among diabetic patients in Saudi Arabia.

In this study, we thought to estimate the radiation exposure of children undergoing multi-detector CT examinations using size-specific dose estimates (SSDE). Console-displayed volume computed tomography dose index (CTDIvol) were recorded for a total of 78 paediatric abdominal CT examinations performed in six hospitals. Measurements of the patient diameters were taken from the mid-slice location on the transverse and scout CT images.

We develop a useful model considering an atom-field system interaction in the framework of pseudoharmonic oscillators. We examine qualitatively the different physical quantities for a two-level atom (TLA) system interacting with a quantized coherent field in the context of photon-added coherent states of pseudoharmonic oscillators. Using these coherent states, we solve the model that exhibits the interaction between the TLA and field associated with these kinds of potentials.

The effect of a low-energy germanium detector collimator with different diameters on the measurement of the X-ray fluorescence of palladium (Pd) was studied experimentally. Changes in the Pd K-series and Compton scattering peaks were measured and analysed with and without a detector collimator, where for the former, collimators with different diameters were used. The signal-to-noise ratio increased when a shielding collimator was used with a narrow detector collimator.

Kleine-Levin syndrome (KLS) is a rare periodic hypersomnia with associated behavioural abnormalities but with often favourable prognosis. There is excess risk of KLS in first-degree relatives, suggesting a strong genetic contribution. So far, no mutation is identified in KLS and comprehensive genetic analysis of affected individuals is lacking.

Sirtuins are NAD-dependent histone deacetylases that play essential roles in cell survival, energy metabolism, inflammation, and aging; therefore, sirtuins are potential therapeutic targets in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, cancer, inflammatory and metabolic disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases. Available evidence provides the basis for hypothesizing that sirtuins 1, 2, and 3 (SIRT1, SIRT2, and SIRT3) may have a mechanistic role subserving mood disorders (i.e.

The Murine Double Minute 2 (MDM2) amplification or overexpression has been found in many tumors with high metastatic and angiogenic ability. Our experiments were designed to explore the impact of MDM2 overexpression, specifically on the levels of angiogenesis-related genes, which can also play a major role in tumor propagation and increase its metastatic potential. In the present study, we have used the human angiogenesis RT² profiler PCR array to compare the gene expression profile between LNCaP and LNCaP-MST (MDM2 transfected) prostate cancer cells, along with LNCaP-MST cells treated with Nutlin-3, an MDM2 specific inhibitor.
