Excessive gingival display is a frequent finding that can occur because of various intraoral or extraoral etiologies. This report describes the use of surgical lip repositioning technique for the management of a gummy smile associated with vertical maxillary excess and hypermobility of the upper lip. The procedure restricts the muscle pull of the elevator lip muscles by shortening the vestibule, thus reducing the gingival display when smiling.

Pre-emptive analgesia aims at preventing the central nervous system from reaching a hyper-excitable state known as central sensitization, in which it responds excessively to afferent inputs. The clinical implication would be more effective pain management, thereby reducing post-operative pain and analgesic requirements. This study aimed at investigating the existence of pre-emptive analgesia and to compare the pre-emptive analgesic efficacy of im ketorolac [NSAID] versus tramadol [SYNTHETIC OPIOD] for post-operative pain management following third molar surgery.

Purpose: Recent studies have demonstrated that opioid analgesia cannot be exclusively attributed to effects within central nervous system. Peripheral opioid receptors exist that can be activated by locally applied opioid agonists which mediate analgesic effects that are particularly prominent in painful inflammatory conditions. Patients who present themselves with conditions requiring minor surgery in the maxillo-facial region usually have associated ongoing inflammatory process.

Introduction: Leukocytes play a key role in maintaining the balance between an effective host defence response to microorganisms and periodontal tissue destruction. Neutrophil dysfunction has been associated with increased susceptibility to periodontal diseases. We undertook this study to determine to what extent neutrophil dysfunction constitutes to the pathogenesis of aggressive periodontitis (AgP) in tropical country like ours.

The purpose of this paper is to present the first case of unusual reverse oblique (110 degrees to midsagittal plane) migration of mandibular right canine crossing the jaw midline and piercing the lower border of the mandible at the level of the opposite canine and also to report two more cases of transmigrated mandibular canine and one case of transmigrating mandibular canine. Mandibular canines are "cornerstone" of dental arch; their importance is manifested by their efficiency in masticatory function, stability of dental arch, and aid in maintaining natural facial expression. Early detection of this anomaly can help preserving these canines by orthodontic intervention or by surgical transplantation.

Schwannomas (neurilemmomas) are slow-growing, benign neoplasms derived from schwann cells, the sheath cells that cover myelinated nerve fibers. These tumors most commonly arise in the soft tissues of the head and neck, as well as on the flexor surfaces of the upper and lower extremities. Intraoral lesions are uncommon, however, and intraosseous schwannomas are even rarer.

Missing of any perioral structure can result in imbalance of muscular forces leading to loss of structure and function along with esthetics especially in a growing individual and can result in permanent damage. Rehabilitation of such children is a challenge and requires an integrated multidisciplinary approach not only to correct the defect, but also to ensure normal development with minimal handicap. Here is a case report of a 10-year-old child with missing lower lip due to childhood infection and its presurgical management using a new design of fixed lower tongue crib used to limit tongue pressure, improve tongue position, and facilitate lower incisor retraction.

Background: Local delivery of antimicrobial has resulted in good clinical outcome along with scaling and root planing. The present study is carried out to evaluate and compare the efficacy of local delivery of 10% doxycycline hyclate in adjunct to scaling and root planing in the treatment of periodontitis.
Materials And Methods: A randomized crossover split mouth design was performed, a total number of 130 sites from 4 patients, 63 sites from patients with aggressive periodontitis and 67 sites from chronic periodontitis patients were selected and divided into scaling and root planing (SRP) group, SRP and doxycycline group and doxycycline alone group.

The need to cover the exposed periostium has meant that a number of materials including mucosal and skin grafts are regarded as suitable for grafting in oral and maxillofacial surgery. To circumvent the disadvantages of other materials such as skin, biological membranes have been suggested as options, including fetal membrane. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of amnion as a graft material for vestibuloplasty, to increase the depth of the sulcus for complete rehabilitation with dentures in 10 patients with a follow up period of 3 months.
