Introduction Gingival enlargement (GE) poses a significant problem during fixed orthodontic treatment (FOT). Thus, the primary aim of the current study was to evaluate the concentrations of biomarkers present in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of individuals receiving FOT. The ancillary aim was to examine and compare biomarker levels among patients exhibiting GE undergoing FOT, those without GE undergoing FOT, and a control group comprising individuals not undergoing FOT and to assess the predictors for GE in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment.

Background: Hematoxylin & Eosin (H & E) stains have been conventionally used to establish the status of safe margins following resection of primary Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Due to non-specificity of this stain, there is a possibility of false negative results. In this study, we have assessed the role of Immunohistochemistry (IHC) in establishing the status of safe margins.

Aim This study aims to evaluate the color stability of four provisional materials: polymethyl methacrylate (DPI® Self-Cure), 10-ethoxylated bisphenol A dimethacrylate (Oratemp® C&B), bis-acryl composite resin (Systemp® C&B, Ivoclar Vivadent), and bis-acryl composite (Systemp® C&B, Ivoclar Vivadent) combined with light-cure composite (Fusion Flo® LC). Materials and methods A total of 40 specimens were meticulously crafted from modeling wax into discs, each precisely 2 mm thick and 20 mm in diameter. Four provisional materials were packed into molds, yielding 10 specimens for each material group.

Article Synopsis
  • The GBD 2021 study aims to quantify the health impacts of 88 risk factors across 204 countries from 1990 to 2021, helping to inform public health policies.
  • The analysis utilized over 54,000 data sources to assess 631 risk-outcome pairs, determining how specific risk factors contribute to various health issues.
  • By calculating relative risks and population attributable fractions, the study provides insights into the disease burden tied to each risk factor, measured in disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs).
View Article and Find Full Text PDF

Background: Detailed, comprehensive, and timely reporting on population health by underlying causes of disability and premature death is crucial to understanding and responding to complex patterns of disease and injury burden over time and across age groups, sexes, and locations. The availability of disease burden estimates can promote evidence-based interventions that enable public health researchers, policy makers, and other professionals to implement strategies that can mitigate diseases. It can also facilitate more rigorous monitoring of progress towards national and international health targets, such as the Sustainable Development Goals.

Root biomodifiers help in removing the smear layer following mechanical debridement. In this context, we evaluated and compared the efficacy of MTAD, MTAD+I-PRF, and phosphate-buffered saline-conditioned dentin surfaces by examining the distribution of the fibrin network using scanning electron microscopy. It was concluded that MTAD can serve as a potentially useful root conditioner/biomodifier.

Background: Antioxidant application soon after bleaching process increases the shear bond strength (SBS) of composite resin to enamel.

Aims: The aim of the study was to evaluate the antioxidant effects of selenium alone and in combination with alpha-tocopherol (αT) and green tea (GT) on SBS of composite resin to enamel following in-office bleaching with 38% hydrogen peroxide (HP).

Methods: Sixty extracted human single -rooted premolar teeth were cleaned and embedded in acrylic resin blocks at the level of cementoenamel junction(CEJ) followed by bleaching with 38% hydrogen peroxide (HP) and arbitrarily divided into seven groups (n=10) for antioxidant application: Group I (negative control): intact teeth, Group II (positive control): only bleaching, Group III: 10% selenium (Se), Group IV: 10% alpha tocopherol (αT), Group V: 10% αT +10% Se, Group VI: 10% Green tea (GT), Group VII: 10%GT+10% Se.

Aims And Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), ranks as the third most prevalent malignancy contributing to cancer-related death on a global scale. Hepatocellular carcinoma is known to be the fifth most frequently diagnosed malignancy of the males while among females, it is ranked as the seventh most common malignancy. The study was conducted to detect the sensitivity of primary HCC using F-flourodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (FDG PET-CT) scan.

Introduction: Fixed functional appliances are widely used for the treatment of retrognathic mandibles in skeletal class II malocclusion. The primary objective of the present investigation was to evaluate and compare the treatment effects induced by PowerScope (American Orthodontics, Sheboygan, WI) and AdvanSync2 (Ormco, Orange, CA). The hypothesis posited that there were no notable disparities in the therapeutic impacts of the two appliances.

All the head and neck tumours, more than 90% are squamous cell carcinomas (SCC). The presence of metastatic cervical lymph nodes histologically positive for SCC provides one of the simplest and most important prognostic factor in patients with head and neck cancer. In this study, all patients were examined clinically for, location, number, size, shape, consistency and fixation of cervical neck nodes to the underlying structure, and the same was carried out by FNAC, USG and CT.
