Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Al-Azhar University (Girls), Nasr City, Cairo 11884, Egypt.

Recent studies reported that 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitors have pleotropic effects independent of their lipid-lowering properties. The present study was undertaken to determine whether treatment with rosuvastatin (RO) would be beneficial in a rat model of bile duct ligation (BDL). Animals were divided into three groups: a sham group (group I), a BDL group treated with vehicle (group II), and a BDL group treated with RO (10 mg/kg) (group III).

It is important to assess the effects of ionic strength when studying adsorption of metal ions on clay mineral because the background salt may complex metals and compete for adsorption sites. The sorption behavior of vermiculite pure clay mineral has been studied with respect to copper and chromium as a function of ionic strength in single metal ion solutions. Background electrolytes used in these experiments were KCl, NaCl and NH4Cl.

Removal of some heavy metal cations by synthetic resin purolite C100.

J Hazard Mater

September 2009

Chemistry Department, Faculty of Science, Al-Azhar University (Girls), Nasr City, Cairo, Egypt.

The discharge of heavy metals into aquatic ecosystems has become a matter of concern over the last few decades. These pollutants are introduced into the aquatic systems significantly as a result of various industrial operations. This paper describes the adsorption behaviour of cation exchange resin purolite C100 with respect to Ce(4+), Fe(3+) and Pb(2+) in order to consider its application to purify metal finishing wastewaters.

A simple solid phase extraction procedure on cation exchange resin Purolite C100 is presented. The procedure based on a column technique for separation and recovery of lead ions from synthetic binary mixtures. Equilibrium distribution coefficient, k(d) for the different metal ions such as Al(III), Fe(III), Ba(II) and Pb(II) in the presence of nitric acid and ammonium acetate solutions of variable concentrations was determined at 25 degrees C.

We synthesized 2-(4-(4-fluorobenzylidene)-2-(4-fluorophenyl) 5-oxo-4,5-dihydroimidazol-1-yl) acetic acid 3. Chlorination afforded the chloro derivative 4, which reacted with different amines and hydrazine to afford compounds 5-8. Pyrazole, pyrazolone, and thiazolidinone derivatives were also synthesized from Imidazol-1-ylacetic acid hydrazide 8 to give compounds 9-12.

Role of AT1 receptors in permeability of the blood-brain barrier in diabetic hypertensive rats.

September 2006

Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty Pharmacy, Al-Azhar University (Girls), Nasr City, Cairo, Egypt.

The precise mechanisms of vascular diseases in patients with diabetic hypertensive are not clearly understood. There are evidences of alteration in permeability of blood-brain barrier (BBB) in diabetic hypertensive rats. This study sought to examine the effect of candesartan on the systolic blood pressure and the brain endothelial barrier function and antioxidant enzymes in rat brain.

Hexachlorocyclophosph(V)azane of sulfadiazine, (sulfupyrimidine) [N(1)-2-pyrimidinylsulfanilamide] (H2L1), was prepared and reacted with sulfur and glycine to give (H2L2) and (H2L3) ligands, respectively. The prepared ligands; H2L1, H2L2 and H2L3, react in 1:2 [ligands]:[metal ions] molar ratio with transition metals to give coloured complexes in a relatively good yields. The complexes were characterized using different physicochemical techniques, namely elemental analyses, IR, UV-vis, mass, 1H NMR, molar conductance, magnetic, solid reflectance and thermal analysis.

Keeping in view the chemotherapeutic of the sulfa-drugs, Schiff base namely 2-thiophene carboxaldehyde-sulfametrole (HL) and its tri-positive and di-positive metal complexes have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR, solid reflectance, magnetic moment, molar conductance, mass spectra, UV-vis and thermal analysis (TGA and DrTG). The low molar conductance values suggest the non-electrolytic nature of these complexes. IR spectra show that HL is coordinated to the metal ions in a tetradentate manner through hetero five-membered ring-S and azomethine-N, enolic sulfonamide-OH and thiadiazole-N, respectively.

Novel hexachlorocyclodiphosph(V)azane of sulfaguanidine, H(4)L, l,3-[N'-amidino-sulfanilamide]-2,2,2,4,4,4-hexachlorocyclodiphosph(V)azane was prepared and its coordination behaviour towards the transition metal ions Fe(III), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and UO(2)(II) was studied. The structures of the isolated products are proposed based on elemental analyses, IR, UV-vis, (1)H NMR, mass spectra, reflectance, magnetic susceptibility measurements and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The hyperfine interactions in the isolated complex compounds were studied using 14.
