Previous studies suggest the importance of stable circadian environments for fetuses to achieve sound physiology and intrauterine development. This idea is also supported by epidemiological and animal studies, in which pregnant females exposed to repeated shifting of light-dark cycles had increased rates of reproductive abnormalities and adverse pregnancy outcomes. In response to such findings, artificial circadian environments with light-dark (LD) cycles have been introduced to NICUs to promote better physical development of preterm infants.

Summary: There are very few reports of syndrome of inappropriate antidiuresis hormone secretion (SIADH) after receiving severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) mRNA vaccine. Herein, we present the case of an 84-year-old woman who developed severe hyponatremia following the second administration of the SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine. The patient presented with nausea, vomiting, and headache.

Japan's hip fracture management guidelines now recommend the use of cemented stems in cases of bone fragility. However, the current stem selection practices in bipolar hemiarthroplasty (BHA) in a super-aging area in Japan remain unclear. This study aimed to examine the stem selection policies, the surgeons' concerns about cemented stems, and factors affecting their confidence in their ability to coach others on cemented stem procedures.

Background And Purpose: Spinal cord lesions are observed in 40% of all central nervous system lesions in intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL). However, because IVLBCL is a very rare disease, its clinical features are not well defined, which may delay appropriate diagnosis and treatment, whilst the acute to subacute course of brain lesions in patients with IVLBCL is well established. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the clinical features of spinal cord lesions in patients with IVLBCL.

Therefore, the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society-Tohoku conducted this questionnaire survey in Tohoku region of Japan.
Methods: A questionnaire on the number of diagnostic endoscopy procedures and resulting diagnosed cancers in 2019 and 2020 was sent to all guidance/guidance cooperation hospitals in the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society who worked in the Tohoku region.

Retained products of conception (RPOC) are frequently associated with previous cesarean section (C-section), abortion, and intrauterine operations, which may affect subsequent pregnancies. A 38-year-old female had a history of C-section and two abortions. After the second abortion, she underwent evacuation of RPOC and was treated with uterine artery embolization (UAE) and hysteroscopic resection.

Background: Over the years, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) affects the pulmonary function of infants, resulting in chronic health burdens for infants and their families. The aim of this scoping review was to screen available evidence regarding perinatal risk factors associated with the development and severity of BPD.
Methods: The eligibility criteria of the studies were year of publication between 2016 and 2021; setting of a developed country; English or Japanese as the study language; and randomized controlled, cohort, or case-control design.

We recently reported the decrease in the number of gastrointestinal (GI) cancer diagnoses in 2020 due to disturbance of the healthcare system by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, using a hospital-based cancer registration system in Akita prefecture, Japan. In this study, we extended the research by showing the latest data (2021) on the number of cancers and examinations. Information on the occurrence and stage of esophageal, gastric, and colorectal cancers was collected from the same database.

Shear wave elastography (SWE) is now becoming an indispensable diagnostic tool in the routine examination of liver diseases. In particular, accuracy is required for shear wave propagation velocity measurement, which is directly related to diagnostic accuracy. It is generally accepted that the liver shear wave propagation velocity reflects the degree of fibrosis, but there are still few reports on other factors that increase the shear wave propagation velocity.

We conducted a prospective, randomized two-arm, parallel group, and open label trial to investigate whether the use of LINE would increase HPV vaccine intention among not completely vaccinated university students. In June 2020, we recruited students aged between 18 and 35 years from four universities in Japan. Among the 357 enrollees (female, 53%), 178 and 179 participants were randomized into the LINE and Mail groups, respectively.

Objectives: Osteoporosis patients with fragility fractures and vertebral deformities have impaired quality of life (QOL). The phase angle, an index calculated from bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) measurements, has been reported to be related to clinical outcomes, mortality, and QOL in various diseases. We aimed to investigate the relationship between the phase angle and QOL in patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis.

For the optimal management of refractory ulcerative colitis (UC), secondary loss of response (LOR) and primary non-response to biologics is a critical issue. This article aimed to summarize the current literature on the use of cytapheresis (CAP) in patients with UC showing a poor response or LOR to biologics and discuss its advantages and limitations. Further, we summarized the efficacy of CAP in patients with UC showing insufficient response to thiopurines or immunomodulators (IM).
