Background: The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between the diameters and collapsibility indices of coronary sinus (CS) and inferior vena cava (IVC) and invasively measured right atrial pressure (RAP), and to determine whether these parameters have predictive value on RAP.

Methods: A total of 136 patients undergoing right heart catheterization due to pulmonary arterial hypertension were included in the study prospectively. CS diameters, IVC diameters, CS collapsibility index (CSCI), and IVC collapsibility index (IVCCI) were measured by echocardiography before catheterization.

Background: Studies on the increased body iron load in patients with thalassemia major have thoroughly demonstrated the problems caused by iron overload. In patients who undergo hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) as curative therapy, iron overload continues long after transplantation. There are few pediatric studies on chelation therapy in the posttransplant period.

Purpose: Febrile neutropenia resulting from chemotherapy is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in cancer patients. We had previously published the associates of the risk of febrile neutropenia, and this study now extends and modifies the previous model as well as tests its external validity.

Methods: We have recruited documented febrile neutropenia cases with solid tumors, in addition to a selected control group of cancer patients from one institution treated between 2015 and 2019.

Background: Atezolizumab (ATZ) has demonstrated antitumor activity in previous studies in patients with metastatic platinum-resistant urothelial carcinoma. However, the response rate of ATZ was modest. Therefore, finding biologic or clinical biomarkers that could help to select patients who respond to the immune checkpoint blockade remains important.

Article Synopsis
  • Hyper-IgE syndromes and chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis are rare immunodeficiency disorders with genetic defects that have been increasingly characterized in recent studies.
  • In a study of 275 patients, researchers identified 87 genetic mutations, achieving a diagnostic success rate of 28.4%, highlighting specific genes like DOCK8 and STAT3 associated with the conditions.
  • The most common symptoms included high IgE levels, eczema, and respiratory infections, with a recommendation for targeted panel sequencing as a cost-effective screening tool for genetic diagnosis in patients with these disorders.

The AETHERA trial reported an increased progression-free survival (PFS) when brentuximab vedotin (BV) was used as maintenance therapy in high-risk Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) after autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT). Thus, we aimed to determine the impact and safety of BV as maintenance after ASCT in real-world patients. Seventy-five patients with relapsed/refractory HL started on BV consolidation therapy after ASCT due to high risk of relapse, between January 2016 and July 2019, from 25 institutions, were included in the study.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at how well a drug called Atezolizumab (ATZ) worked for patients with a tough type of cancer that didn't respond to earlier treatment.*
  • Researchers checked the health data of 113 patients to find out which factors might affect how long they lived after taking ATZ.*
  • Important factors that seemed to be linked to shorter survival included having liver metastases, poor overall health, and low hemoglobin levels.*

Background: In this study, we aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of sofosbuvir-based therapies in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C in real-world clinical practice.

Methods: Data from patients with chronic hepatitis C treated with SOF/LDV ± RBV or SOF/RBV in 31 centers across Turkey between April 1, 2017, and August 31, 2018, were recorded in a nationwide database among infectious disease specialists. Demographics, clinical, and virological outcomes were analyzed.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the morphological variations in the cross-sectional anatomy of the meniscus between similar-sized matched menisci.

Materials And Methods: Knee MRI of 329 patients with intact menisci were retrospectively reviewed, and the meniscal length (ML), meniscal width (MW), and cross-sectional dimensions (meniscal height and width) of the anterior, posterior horns, and the corpus were measured. Patients with similar-sized menisci who had less than 1 mm difference in ML and MW were matched.

Objective: Differential diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is important among fibrotic interstitial lung diseases (ILD). This study aimed to evaluate the rate of IPF in patients with fibrotic ILD and to determine the clinical-laboratory features of patients with and without IPF that would provide the differential diagnosis of IPF.

Material And Methods: The study included the patients with the usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) pattern or possible UIP pattern on thorax high-resolution computed tomography, and/or UIP pattern, probable UIP or possible UIP pattern at lung biopsy according to the 2011 ATS/ERS/JRS/ALAT guidelines.

Background: The purpose of the retrospective study was to identify the impacts of different solutions on the electrocardiogram and cardiovascular changes. Moreover, the differences between these solutions were analyzed by examining their impacts on rat ventricular cardiomyocytes.

Methods: Eighty renal transplant patients were evaluated retrospectively.

Background: The spectrum of human adenovirus (HAdV)-related disease is broad, and the virus acts on many organs and systems in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients. We aimed to evaluate the effect of HAdV-DNA positivity with clinical and laboratory findings 4 months after HSCT.

Methods And Results: We retrospectively investigated HAdV-DNA in 153 HSCT recipients (≤18 years) by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RealStar; Altona Diagnostics).

Aims: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of metabolic abnormalities. Anatomically restructuring of the gastrointestinal system has recently been an important subject of research in the treatment of MetS and closely related diseases. The aim of this study is to ensure the remission of parameters that define MetS by ileal interposition (IT) and to examine the effect of IT on plasma total GLP-1 and pancreatic GLP-1R expression.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of avelumab, a PD-L1 inhibitor, as maintenance therapy for patients with unresectable gastric or gastroesophageal junction cancer after initial chemotherapy.
  • - In a phase III trial involving 805 patients, those on avelumab had a median overall survival (OS) of 10.4 months compared to 10.9 months for those continuing chemotherapy, indicating no significant survival advantage.
  • - Side effects were more common in the chemotherapy group (77.3% with grade ≥ 3 adverse events for chemotherapy vs. 61.3% for avelumab), suggesting that avelumab might have a better safety profile, particularly for patients with PD-L1-positive tumors

The aims were to investigate the incidence of BKV infection and the presence of HC in pediatric patients undergoing HSCT. Twenty-four children patients (M/F: 17/7) undergoing HSCT in a single center over a period of 1 year were included in the study. The presence of BKV DNA was determined by quantitative real-time PCR in plasma and urine samples at the following times: before transplantation, twice a week until engraftment time, and weekly for + 100 days.

  • Umbilical venous catheters (UVCs) are commonly used in perinatal care, but misplacement can lead to complications like liver injury and unusual ultrasound findings.
  • Clinicians and radiologists need to recognize the specific imaging signs to prevent unnecessary procedures like liver biopsies.
  • This study presents sonographic and CT images showcasing liver issues caused by UVC malposition to enhance understanding and diagnosis.
