Analysis of Patients with Urethral Stricture in Kidney Transplant Recipients.

Background: We aimed to assess the rates of urethral stricture in transplant recipients, analyse patients with urethral strictures and present the posttreatment follow-up outcomes.

Methods: Between 2004 and 2023, a retrospective examination was conducted on kidney transplant recipients who underwent removal of ureteral catheters through retrograde cystoscopy at our facility or referred from external centres. The collected data encompassed patient demographics, pre- and posttransplant maximum urinary flow rate, specifics of stenosis, surgical interventions and outcomes from a 1-year follow-up.

Analyzing HALP and PNI scores as prognostic factors in metastatic head and neck cancers.

Objective: This study investigates the prognostic significance of Hemoglobin, Albumin, Lymphocyte, Platelet (HALP) score and Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) in metastatic head and neck cancers.

Methods: Retrospective analysis was conducted on data obtained from January 2014 to June 2022 for 68 patients using rigorous statistical methods. HALP and PNI scores, derived from routine laboratory parameters, were categorized into low and high groups using respective median values.

Background And Purpose:

Management of Priapism: Results of a Nationwide Survey and Comparison with International Guidelines.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate current urologic practice regarding the management of priapism in Turkey and compare with international guidelines.

Methods: Urologists and urology residents were invited to an online survey consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions on priapism-related clinical practices that were consid- ered most important and relevant to practices by using Google Forms.

Results: Total number of responses was 340.

Background: Videos uploaded to YouTube do not go through a review process. The educational aspect of these videos may be insufficient for patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFP).

Objective: To examine the reliability and educational quality of PFP videos on YouTube.

Comparison of ultrasound-guided supraclavicular and costoclavicular brachial plexus blocks in pediatric patients: a randomized clinical trial.

Purpose: Costoclavicular brachial plexus block has been described recently as a new technique in adults and pediatric patients. In this study, we aimed to compare the supraclavicular and costoclavicular approaches, which are claimed to be effective and practical in pediatric patients.

Methods: Sixty children were randomized to receive supraclavicular (SC group) or costoclavicular (CC group) brachial plexus blocks prior to surgical incision.

Objective: Videos uploaded to YouTube do not go through a review process, and therefore, videos related to patellofemoral instability may have little educational value. The purpose of this study was to assess the educational quality of YouTube videos regarding patellofemoral instability.

Methods: A standard search was performed on the YouTube database using the following terms: "unstable kneecap," "patellar instability," "patellofemoral instability," "kneecap dislocation," and "patellar dislocation," and the top 50 videos based on the "relevance" assignment of the YouTube algorithm were included for analysis.

Factors Affecting Visual Gain after Accelerated Crosslinking in Pediatric Keratoconic Cases.

Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate factors affecting visual gain following accelerated crosslinking (A-CXL) in pediatric cases with keratoconus.

Methods: Pediatric patients with a diagnosis of keratoconus who underwent A-CXL for 10 minutes ultraviolet A (UV-A) 9 mW/cm between February 2015 and May 2019 and had at least 1 year of follow-up data were analyzed retrospectively. Uncorrected visual acuity, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), and refractive value changes (spherical, cylindrical values) at the preoperative and postoperative 12 month were compared.

Direct Radiography Following Fracture Reduction Improves the Reliability of Pauwels Classification.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Pauwels classification system is widely used to classify the femoral neck fractures. Even its widely usage there are severals debates about its reliability. After the femoral neck fracture occured the lower extremity rotates externally and this external rotation deformity could lead to misevaluation of Pauwels angle at the initial radiographs.

Instant messaging application usage for clinical consultation among orthopedic surgery residents in Turkey: A survey study.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the characteristics of instant messaging application (IMA) usage for clinical consultation among orthopedic residents in Turkey and to explore their experiences and opinions concerning potential legal problems.

Methods: A questionnaire titled "Instant messaging for consultation among orthopedic surgeons" consisting of 21 questions was applied to orthopedic surgery residents, and the results were analyzed. The questions were designed to obtain information on 4 categories: 1) demographics and professional experience, 2) attitudes on the use of cellular phones, 3) IMA usage for clinical consultation purposes, and 4) problems and comments on smartphone application usage for clinical consultation purposes.

Comparison of Two Different Bipolar Energy Resources in Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumors.

Purpose: To determine whether the use of different bipolar resources is associated with different results on tissue and perioperative parameters in patients undergoing bipolar transurethral bladder tumor resection (bTURBT).

Methods: In this single-center prospective study, patients diagnosed with bladder tumor randomized to undergo TURBT either with a Gyrus PlasmaKinetic system (n = 62) or Olympus TUR in saline (TURis) system (n = 51). Primary endpoint was to evaluate the alteration of patients' perioperative parameters, while secondary aim was to assess the thermal effect of these 2 different bipolar devices on the resected tissue samples by a grading system determined by tissue characteristics.

A survey analysis of knowledge levels of urologists about radiation safety and fluoroscopy use.

Aims: To evaluate the awareness of the use of fluoroscopy in endourological procedures, as well as the theoretical and practical applications of preventive measures.

Material And Method: Between May 2018 and April 2019, a 26-question survey prepared using Google Docs was sent to urologists via email. Personal information, radiation training and behaviours related to radiation and fluoroscopy usage, and the use of protective equipment were queried.

Assessing the role of hip arthrography in the treatment decision making for children with Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the role of hip arthrography in the treatment decision making for children with Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD).

Methods: A total of 47 consecutive children with LCPD (42 boys, 5 girls; mean age=7.5 years; range=6-10 years) who underwent operative treatment were included in the study.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between QT (QTc) interval, Tp-e interval, Tp-e/QTc ratio, 5-year sudden cardiac death (SCD) risk score, and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) detected by CMR in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients.

Method: A total of 74 consecutive patients who underwent CMR with HCM diagnosis were included in the study. These patients were divided into two groups according to the presence of LGE on CMR.

Sterile corneal infiltrates after corneal collagen cross-linking: evaluation of risk factors.

Purpose: To evaluate possible risk factors leading to sterile corneal infiltrates following corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL).

Methods: A total of 588 eyes of 459 patients treated with Epi-off (n = 461) or Epi-on (n = 127) CXL were retrospectively evaluated. Risk factors, including preoperative blepharitis and vernal conjunctivitis, the postoperative use of topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), as well as Kmax and pachymetry measurements, were assessed.

Changes of intraocular pressure in different trimesters of pregnancy among Syrian refugees in Turkey: A cross-sectional study.

Objective: To evaluate the physiologic changes in intraocular pressure associated with pregnancy in healthy Syrian refugee women in Turkey.

Materials And Methods: In this cross-sectional study, intraocular pressures were measured using a Goldmann tonometer in 235 patients in the first, second, and third trimester of pregnancy and puerperium among Syrian refugees in Turkey.

Results: Mean intraocular pressures values of the right eye were 15.

Late clinical characteristics of infants with retinopathy of prematurity and treated with cryotherapy.

Aim: To describe the clinical characteristics and late results of patients with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) treated with "6h cryotherapy".

Methods: Out of 1252 infants screened for ROP, 52 patients were treated with temporal 6h cryotherapy from 1997 to 2005 were recalled to our clinic. Among these 23 patients were available and 46 eyes of 23 infants were included to evaluate for visual acuity, refractive error, ocular alignment, nystagmus, retinal examination (abnormal branching of retinal vessels, retinal thinning, latis degenerations, tortuosity of vessels, straightening of temporal vessels, narrowing of the angle of vessel in the juxtapapillary entrance, pigment changes, macular heterotopia), optic atrophy and optic disc cupping, axial length at birth and axial length at 1y.

Lamotrigine augmentation in patients with schizophrenia who show partial response to clozapine treatment.

Background: Several placebo controlled studies investigating lamotrigine augmentation of clozapine in schizophrenia patients with partial response have shown varying results. The aim of this study was to further investigate the efficacy and safety of this augmentation strategy, and its effect on the glutamatergic system through utilizing mismatch negativity (MMN) component of auditory event related potentials.

Methods: The study was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of lamotrigine augmentation of clozapine in a 12-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled, prospective, randomized design.
