Ischemic-reperfusion (I/R) is a major event in the pathogenesis of ischemic heart disease that leads to higher rate of mortality. The study has been designed to investigate the therapeutic potential and molecular mechanism of vitamin P and digoxin in I/R-induced myocardial infarction in isolated rat heart preparation by using Langendorff apparatus. The animals were treated with vitamin P (50 and 100 mg/kg; p.

Department of Pharmacology, Neuropharmacology Division, Akal Pharmacology & Toxicology Research Centre, Akal College of Pharmacy & Technical Education (ACPTE), Masuana Sahib, Sangrur 148001, Punjab, India.

The present study was designed to investigate the role of flunarizine (a non-selective calcium channel blocker) on cerebral ischemic-reperfusion associated cognitive dysfunction in aged mice. Bilateral carotid artery occlusion of 12min followed by reperfusion for 24h was given to induce cerebral injury in male Swiss mice. The assessment of learning & memory was performed by Morris water maze test; motor in-coordination was evaluated by rota rod, lateral push and inclined beam walking tests; cerebral infarct size was quantified by triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the protective effects of vitamin P and digoxin on kidney injury caused by ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) in isolated rat kidneys using the Langendorff apparatus.
  • Rats were treated with vitamin P and digoxin, and the researchers measured various biomarkers in the renal effluent and tissue to assess kidney function and damage.
  • Results indicate that both vitamin P and digoxin significantly improved I/R-induced kidney damage, suggesting that vitamin P may inhibit harmful cellular processes and could be beneficial for treating kidney-related disorders.

Department of Pharmacology, Akal College of Pharmacy and Technical Education, Mastuana Sahib, Sangrur, Punjab 148001, India.

Presently available methods for determining antimicrobial activity include broth dilution and disc diffusion. However, these methods can not be employed for study of vapor phase antimicrobial activity. The present study describes a new method and a new apparatus for determination of vapor phase antimicrobial activity of volatile substances against bacteria.

Rofecoxib (Rb) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with poor aqueous solubility. The present study was undertaken to investigate the influence of water-soluble polymers namely sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (Na CMC), polyvinylpyrrolidine (PVP) and polyethylene glycol (PEG-6000) on hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin (HP beta-CD) complexation of Rb. The complexes were prepared by kneading, autoclaving and precipitation techniques in 1:1 and 1:2 molar ratios.
