Background: Since 2003, a decline in the age-standardized incidence rates of colorectal cancer (CRC) has been observed in Germany. Nonetheless, one in eight cancer cases still affects the colon or rectum. The prognosis has improved, with the relative 5‑year survival rate for CRC being approximately 65%.

[DemStepCare: Risk-stratified support for primary care-based dementia care - evaluation from general practitioner's view].

Objective: The innovation fund project DemStepCare aimed to optimize multi-professional care through case management, risk stratification, and crisis outpatient clinic. Here, the evaluation results from the perspective of the general practitioners are presented.

Methods: A quantitative survey was carried out at three time points regarding acceptance, benefit assessment and sensitivity to dementia of the general practitioners.

The effectiveness of antenatal corticosteroids (ACS) in significantly reducing respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) depends crucially on the timing. It is successful if delivery takes place between 24 hours and seven days following administration; after this period, the side effects seem to predominate. In addition, an increased rate of mental impairment and behavioral disorders are observed in children born full-term after ACS administration.

Methods And Results: This international multicentre registry investigates the characteristics of oesophageal fistulae after treatment of atrial fibrillation by catheter ablation.

A Narrative Review - Therapy Options and Therapy Failure in Retinoblastoma.

Retinoblastoma (RB) management has evolved over the last three decades. Goals of modern RB treatment are first to protect life and prevent metastatic disease, then preservation of the globe and useful vision. With modern treatment protocols and early disease detection success rates can reach up to 100% of disease-free-globe and eye preservation.

[Clinical aspects and care of radiogenic treatment side effects on the eye].

Malignant tumors of the eye can be successfully treated with radiotherapy, which, however, can lead to radiogenic side effects in the surrounding healthy tissues. A  distinction can be made between two forms of irradiation, external radiotherapy (teletherapy) and brachytherapy with a radiation source close to the tumor. The radiation dose is important for the occurrence of side effects.

[Histopathological diagnostics of arthrofibrosis].

Joint surgery is one of the most important and successful disciplines in surgery; nevertheless, complications still occur, especially in total knee arthroplasty and surgery of the anterior cruciate ligament. A significant disease in this context is arthrofibrosis. This review article presents the cellular and molecular pathogenetic concept of arthrofibrosis, the spectrum of histopathological diagnostics and differential diagnostics and a classification into joint endoprosthesis-associated and non-joint endoprosthesis-associated arthrofibrosis is proposed.

However, the underlying mechanism for this correlation is not understood. Esophageal carcinomas harbor a high malignancy and show a high incidence - worldwide they are the sixth most common cause of carcinoma-related death.

[Guidelines of the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) on cardiopulmonary resuscitation 2021: update and comments].

The European guidelines on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which are divided into 12 chapters, have recently been published. In addition to the already known chapters, the topics "epidemiology" and "life-saving systems" have been integrated for the first time. For each chapter five practical key statements were formulated.

Background: Pars plana vitrectomy (ppV) combined with silicone oil tamponade is a standard technique in the treatment of complicated retinal detachment. There are still recurrent cases of retinal detachment after silicone oil removal or redetachment with in situ oil tamponade.

Objective: The aim was to identify possible risk factors for retinal redetachment and to use the knowledge for optimizing treatment.

Cost-effectiveness analysis of statins in primary care: results from the Arteris cohort study.

Background: The Swiss Federal Office of Public Health performed a health technology assessment regarding statins in primary care. The chosen models may lead to a situation where a clinically indicated statin therapy is estimated not to be cost effective.

Methods: We performed a cohort study regarding cardiovascular events, comparing SCORE and AGLA risk categories with tertiles of carotid plaque burden and used two models for cost-effectiveness analysis of high-potency statins.

Prediction of cardiovascular events with traditional risk equations and total plaque area of carotid atherosclerosis: The Arteris Cardiovascular Outcome (ARCO) cohort study.

A large number of cardiovascular events occur in seemingly healthy individuals. Atherosclerosis imaging can improve the outcome and treatment regime of such subjects. We aim to assess the predictive value of atherosclerosis imaging beyond traditional risk calculators in subjects aged 40-65 years.
