Introduction: Patients with cancer experience physical, mental, and social pain that affects themselves and their families. The increasing cancer incidence and advances in treatment have increased the number of cancer survivors in Korea, and there is an influx of patients in Seoul and other metropolitan areas, leading to shortages of continuous care and comprehensive life support facilities. Patients must travel long distances for treatment, which poses logistical and quality-of-life challenges.

Parkinson's disease has long been considered a disorder that primarily affects the brain, as it is defined by the dopaminergic neurodegeneration in the substantia nigra and the brain accumulation of Lewy bodies containing alpha-synuclein protein. In recent decades, however, accumulating research has revealed that Parkinson's disease also involves the gut and uncovered an intimate and important bidirectional link between the brain and the gut, called the "gut-brain axis." Numerous clinical studies demonstrate that gut dysfunction frequently precedes motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease patients, with findings including impaired intestinal permeability, heightened inflammation, and distinct gut microbiome profiles and metabolites.

The gamma-ray-induced random mutagenesis of an engineered β-carotene-producing XL1-Blue resulted in the variant Ajou 45, which exhibits significantly enhanced β-carotene production. The whole-genome sequencing of Ajou 45 identified 55 mutations, notably including a reduction in the copy number of , encoding adenylate cyclase, a key enzyme regulating intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP) levels. While the parental XL1-Blue strain harbors two copies of , Ajou 45 retains only one, potentially leading to reduced intracellular cAMP concentrations.

Introduction: Recently, "body-first" and "brain-first" subtype in Parkinson's disease (PD) was proposed based on the propagation of α-synuclein. In isolated RBD considered as a premotor stage of body-first PD, α-synuclein was supposed to originate in the enteric nervous system and spreads via autonomic nervous system. Therefore, we hypothesized that body-first PD is more likely to have a delayed gastric emptying time and reduced cardiac sympathetic denervation.

Background: The capacity to anticipate future health issues is important for both policy makers and practitioners in the USA, as such insights can facilitate effective planning, investment, and implementation strategies. Forecasting trends in disease and injury burden is not only crucial for policy makers but also garners substantial interest from the general populace and leads to a better-informed public. Through the integration of new data sources, the refinement of methodologies, and the inclusion of additional causes, we have improved our previous forecasting efforts within the scope of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) to produce forecasts at the state and national levels for the USA under various possible scenarios.
