Trauma during pregnancy poses a potentially tragic risk to both the fetus and mother, making its management particularly challenging. Here, we present the case of a 35-year-old woman at 34 weeks and 2 days gestation who was in a motor vehicle accident and subsequently suffered placental abruption and underwent an emergency cesarean section. We also present a review of traumatic placental abruption and its epidemiology.

Aim: Staging surgery in early stage endometrial cancer has been shown to be feasible and safe with minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in many previous studies. However, there is limited literature on MIS's safety in advanced stages. This study aims to identify factors associated with survival in stage III endometrial cancer and investigate survival differences based on surgical approach.

Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is the common companion diagnostics in targeted therapies. However, quantifying protein expressions in IHC images present a significant challenge, due to variability in manual scoring and inherent subjective interpretation. Deep learning (DL) offers a promising approach to address these issues, though current models require extensive training for each cancer and IHC type, limiting the practical application.

Purpose: In chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), autoimmune thyroid disease is the most common autoimmune comorbidity, and many CSU patients have immunoglobulin (Ig)E or IgG autoantibodies to thyroid peroxidase (TPO). It remains unclear how anti-TPO IgE and IgG autoantibodies are linked to each other and are associated with CSU features, activity, and therapeutic responses.
Methods: CSU patients (n = 146, 92 females, mean age 42.

Purpose: Despite the emerging biologics, biomarkers and treatment options for asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) overlap (ACO) are still limited, requiring further research.
Methods: We enrolled 378 ACO patients from a multicenter real-world asthma cohort in Korea and compared the clinical characteristics, lung function, and exacerbation between type 2 (T2)-high and T2-low groups. We used the following comparisons: 1) low vs.

Background: Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a common complication in orthopedic surgery and has the potential to lead to fatal complications such as pulmonary thromboembolism. However, the precise incidence and risk factors for DVT in the foot and ankle fields remain unclear. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of DVT and identify its risk factors after foot and ankle surgery.

Three-dimensional (3D) sensors selectively measure the applied force in a particular direction through the designed shape. However, such a fixed sensor design incurs a relatively low sensitivity and narrow measurement range to forces applied from other directions. Here, we report a shape-reconfigurable electronic composite based on a stiffness-tunable polymer and a crack-based strain sensor.

Cellular senescence, recognized as a key hallmark of aging, leads to the accumulation of senescent cells in various tissues over time. While the detrimental effects of these cells on age-related pathological conditions are well-documented, there is still limited information about how senescent cells are distributed in normal tissues of both young and aged organs. Our research indicates that fully senescent p16 cells are rarely identified in the parenchyma of organic tissues and in the stromal cells crucial for structural maintenance, such as fibroblasts and smooth muscle cells.

Recently, significant research efforts have been made to enhance ultrasonic testing (UT) by employing artificial intelligence (AI). However, collecting an extensive amount of labeled data across various testing environments to train the AI model poses significant challenges. Moreover, conventional UT typically focuses on detecting deep-depth defects, which limits the effectiveness of such methods in detecting near-surface defects.

Body fat distribution is closely related to cardiovascular disease than the amount of total body fat itself. The epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) measured by transthoracic echocardiography represents central obesity. We hypothesized that the gender affected the link between EAT thickness and body fat distribution.

Epitope-based peptide vaccines elicit targeted immune responses, making them effective for diseases requiring focused immune activation, such as targeting cancer-associated antigens. Strategies like peptide cocktails and mRNA-based epitope vaccines have revolutionized the field; however, the term 'multi-epitope peptide vaccine' has been overextended, especially concerning the use of toll-like receptors (TLRs), their ligands, and peptide linkers. TLRs are often conflated with T cell receptors (TCRs) and B cell receptors (BCRs), which recognize immunogenic peptides within vaccines.

Objectives: Concern about contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) may delay the timely administration of contrast media for computed tomography (CT). The precise causative effect of iodinated contrast media on CI-AKI and its relevant risk factors remains an area of ongoing investigation. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the risk of CI-AKI following contrast-enhanced CT and its predisposing risk factors.

encodes the alpha subunit of the heterotrimeric Go protein. Despite being the most abundant G protein at synapses, the role of Go in the brain remains unclear, primarily because of the high mortality associated with developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE) 17 in mutated animals. Here, we conducted proteomic analyses with a brain synaptosomal fraction to investigate the Go-interactome and then generated a non-DEE model using mice to selectively knockout (KO) the presynaptic Gαo within cerebellum.

Background And Objectives: The Fractional Flow Reserve and Intravascular Ultrasound-Guided Intervention Strategy for Clinical Outcomes in Patients with Intermediate Stenosis (FLAVOUR) trial demonstrated non-inferiority of fractional flow reserve (FFR)-guided percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) compared with intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)-guided PCI. We sought to investigate the cost-effectiveness of FFR-guided PCI compared to IVUS-guided PCI in Korea.
Methods: A 2-part cost-effectiveness model, composed of a short-term decision tree model and a long-term Markov model, was developed for patients who underwent PCI to treat intermediate stenosis (40% to 70% stenosis by visual estimation on coronary angiography).

The circadian clock, an internal time-keeping system orchestrates 24 hr rhythms in physiology and behavior by regulating rhythmic transcription in cells. Astrocytes, the most abundant glial cells, play crucial roles in CNS functions, but the impact of the circadian clock on astrocyte functions remains largely unexplored. In this study, we identified 412 circadian rhythmic transcripts in cultured mouse cortical astrocytes through RNA sequencing.
