Background: Candidate biomarkers to improve venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk prediction in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM) undergoing anti-myeloma therapy include tissue factor-bearing microvesicles (MV-TF), procoagulant phospholipids (procoag-PPL), and D-dimer.
Objective: We aimed to determine the levels of MV-TF, procoag-PPL, and D-dimer at baseline and during initial anti-myeloma therapy and their association with the risk of VTE.
Methods: This prospective, longitudinal, observational study included 71 patients with newly diagnosed MM who were eligible for anti-myeloma therapy.

Background: The spectacular decline in pollinators and their prominent role in pollination of natural and cultivated plants has stimulated research on pollinating insects. Over the last ten years, much ecological research has been carried out on bees, often generating a large volume of specimens and increasing the importance of entomological collections. Here, we present the bee collection of the IMBE laboratory (Marseille, France) after ten years of study of plant-pollinator networks.

Purpose: Asymmetric anterior closing-wedge high tibial osteotomy (ACWHTO) allows correction of both excessive posterior tibial slope (PTS) and varus deformity. However, the complexity of this surgery requires a high degree of accuracy, which is less likely to be achieved with standard instrumentations. This study aimed to determine the accuracy of 3D patient-specific cutting guides (PSCGs) to provide the accurate planned correction in the frontal and sagittal planes.

Background: While the use of chemotherapy near the end of life (EOL) has been identified as a relevant criterion for assessing quality of cancer care and has been estimated as non-beneficial, a trend of aggressiveness in cancer care during the last period of life remains. Both patients' sociodemographic characteristics and physicians' practice setting are associated with this use. The role of patients' psychosocial characteristics has however been understudied.

Purpose: To compare clinical and radiological outcomes of medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) using two different alignment methods: the alignment rod (AR) versus the gap measurement (GM) method. The primary outcome was to report the surgical accuracy of coronal plane corrections in each method.
Methods: Patients who underwent MOWHTO with either AR or GM method between 2014 and 2022 at a single institution, with a minimum of 2 years of follow-up, were included.

Background: The primary genetic risk factor for heritable pulmonary arterial hypertension is the presence of monoallelic mutations in the gene. The incomplete penetrance of mutations implies that additional triggers are necessary for pulmonary arterial hypertension occurrence. Pulmonary artery stenosis directly raises pulmonary artery pressure, and the redirection of blood flow to unobstructed arteries leads to endothelial dysfunction and vascular remodeling.

Background: CD146, a cell adhesion molecule, was first discovered in melanoma. Since then, it has been established as a promoter of tumor progression and metastasis. Many recent clinical studies have associated CD146 overexpression with poor prognosis in various cancers.

Background: Hoverflies are among the most important insect pollinators and there is documented evidence of a recent decline in their populations. To trace the past distributions of hoverfly species, verified records of historical collections are essential.
New Information: Here, we provide data on 1071 specimens of hoverflies collected or received by Jean Timon-David and hosted at the Marseille Natural History Museum, France.

Background: The REGOBONE multi-cohort study explored the efficacy and safety of regorafenib for patients with advanced bone sarcomas; this report details the Ewing sarcoma (ES) cohort.
Methods: Patients with relapsed ES progressing despite prior standard therapy, were randomised (2:1) to receive regorafenib or placebo. Patients on placebo could crossover to receive regorafenib after centrally confirmed progression.
In the most recent electronic and electric sectors, ceramic-polymer nanocomposites with high dielectric permittivity and energy density are gaining popularity. However, the main obstacle to improving the energy density in flexible nanocomposites, besides the size and morphology of the ceramic filler, is the low interfacial compatibility between the ceramic and the polymer. This paper presents an alternative solution to improve the dielectric permittivity and energy storage properties for electronic applications.

Lysosomal exoglycosidases are responsible for processing endocytosed glycans from the non-reducing end to produce the corresponding monosaccharides. Genetic mutations in a particular lysosomal glycosidase may result in accumulation of its particular substrate, which may cause diverse lysosomal storage disorders. The identification of effective therapeutic modalities to treat these diseases is a major yet poorly realised objective in biomedicine.

Objectives: Our goal was to evaluate the association between the distance of the tumour to the visceral pleura and the rate of local recurrence in patients surgically treated for stage pI lung cancer.
Methods: We conducted a single-centre retrospective review of 578 consecutive patients with clinical stage IA lung cancer who underwent a lobectomy or segmentectomy from January 2010 to December 2019. We excluded 107 patients with positive margins, previous lung cancer, neoadjuvant treatment and pathological stage II or higher status or for whom preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans were not available at the time of the study.

Pulmonary involvement of IgG4-associated disease is a rare condition with no codified treatment apart from steroid administration. We report here the case of a patient with pulmonary involvement of IgG4-RD successfully managed with Rituximab, in induction and maintenance therapy. This original case could support the use of Rituximab in rare situations of steroid-resistant or steroid-dependent pulmonary IgG4-RD.

This tutorial shows how to remove an aspirated foreign body via a lung-sparing operation using a transverse bronchotomy through a transthoracic approach. An 18-year-old woman was admitted for treatment of an aspirated foreign body. A pushpin was impacted in a subsegmental branch of the right lower lobe of her bronchus.

In this paper, we study the gains and losses incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. We distinguish between the effects of the pandemic and those of the health measures implemented to reduce the death toll, notably "the lockdown." Our theoretical model is focused on within-sector firm heterogeneity and involves imperfect competition in a partial equilibrium setting.

Endothelial repair plays a key role in the development of atherosclerosis. The objective was to examine associations between TL and proliferative dynamics of endothelial colony-forming cells (ECFCs), which behave as progenitor cells displaying endothelial repair activity.

Background: In immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP), patients develop an immune response against the multidomain enzyme ADAMTS13. ADAMTS13 consists of a metalloprotease (M) and disintegrin-like (D) domain, 8 thrombospondin type 1 repeats (T1-T8), a cysteine-rich (C), a spacer (S), and 2 CUB domains (CUB1-2). Previous epitope mapping studies have used relatively large overlapping ADAMTS13 fragments.

Glycoside hydrolases (GHs) are found in all domains of life, and at least 87 distinct genes encoding proteins related to GHs are found in the human genome. GHs serve diverse functions from digestion of dietary polysaccharides to breakdown of intracellular oligosaccharides, glycoproteins, proteoglycans and glycolipids. Congenital disorders of GHs (CDGHs) represent more than 30 rare diseases caused by mutations in one of the GH genes.
