Background: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is one of the most commonly found types of myeloproliferative neoplasms, characterized by increased proliferation of granulocytic cells without losing their differentiation ability. Imatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), can be effectively used as therapy for CML. However, Imatinib can affect bone turnover thus having clinical implications on the bones of CML patients undergoing long-term Imatinib therapy.

  • Meningiomas are usually benign but can require urgent treatment when they cause symptoms; a case of a giant, vascularized meningioma necessitated preoperative embolization to minimize surgical risks.
  • A 24-year-old woman with severe visual issues and chronic headaches was diagnosed with a 97 mm meningioma, leading to successful embolization that occluded 75% of the supplying arteries before tumor removal.
  • The study highlighted that preoperative embolization reduced blood loss during surgery, improved visualization of the tumor, and enhanced surgical outcomes, with a low recurrence rate of just 9% over a decade.

Objectives:  Pulp capping is a pivotal treatment in dentistry aimed at preserving pulp vitality. While calcium hydroxide has long been considered the gold standard in pulp capping materials, its long-term use can induce chronic inflammation, ultimately leading to pulp necrosis and affecting human health. In this context, ellagic acid, a natural compound with potent anti-inflammatory properties, emerged as a promising adjunct to mitigate inflammation associated with calcium hydroxide application, thereby sustaining pulp vitality.

The growing demand for sustainable food packaging and the increasing concerns regarding environmental pollution have driven interest in biodegradable materials. This paper presents an in-depth review of the production of Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), a biodegradable polymer, from food waste. PHA-based bioplastics, particularly when derived from low-cost carbon sources such as volatile fatty acids (VFAs) and waste oils, offer a promising solution for reducing plastic waste and enhancing food packaging sustainability.

Cervical cancer remains a disease burden in Asia. The Asia and Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology envisages a need to produce a set of recommendations on the implementation of human papilloma virus vaccination program for both lower-middle-income countries (LMICs) and high-income countries (HICs), with an attempt to harmonize the practices yet allow flexibility to cater for different cultures, religions, needs and background of individual countries/cities. International guidelines and literature were sought, and recommendations were made in seven selected areas, including (i) the target groups for vaccination, (ii) the doses of vaccination including the use of single-dose vaccination, (iii) the types of vaccines, (iv) suggestions for special populations including those with previous HPV infection, human immunodeficiency virus carriers, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning/queer group, (v) inter-changeability and the need of revaccination/booster, (vi) novel technologies and vaccines, and (vii) public education.
