Histone deacetylase inhibitors show synergy with several genotoxic drugs. Herein, we investigated the biological impact of the combined treatment of panobinostat and melphalan in multiple myeloma (MM). DNA damage response (DDR) parameters and the expression of DDR-associated genes were analyzed in bone marrow plasma cells (BMPCs) and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from 26 newly diagnosed MM patients.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a disease characterized by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has so far led to hundreds of millions of infections and millions of deaths. Fungal infections are known to complicate COVID-19 patients and are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to assess the incidence of positive cultures for spp.

Background: Various botulinumtoxinA formulations are approved for glabellar lines treatment worldwide, including abobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport).
Objectives: Assess abobotulinumtoxinA superiority versus placebo and non-inferiority versus active comparator (onabotulinumtoxinA; Botox), for the treatment of Chinese patients with moderate/severe glabellar lines.
Methods: Phase 3, randomized study (NCT02450526) comprising a double-blind (cycle 1) phase and an open-label (cycles 2-5) phase.

Aim: To estimate the incidence, timing and severity of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) breakthrough infections in fully vaccinated healthcare personnel (HCP).
Methods: In total, 6496 fully vaccinated HCP were analysed prospectively from 15 November 2021 to 17 April 2022. Full coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination was defined as a complete primary vaccination series followed by a booster dose at least 6 months later.

The medical literature on aesthetic dermatology has primarily focused on a light-skinned patient population, yet patients of darker skin types have different needs and priorities. In Chinese individuals, key concerns include altered pigmentation, which is perceived to age the individual, and also relates to the Chinese cultural standard of beauty of fair skin; many seek aesthetic treatment for this. Non-invasive cosmetic procedures such as lasers and injections are also gaining in popularity in the Chinese market, but this population is prone to hyperpigmentation as an adverse effect of such procedures.

Aim: We assessed the impact of COVID-19 vaccination status and time elapsed since the last vaccine dose on morbidity and absenteeism among healthcare personnel (HCP) in the context of a mandatory vaccination policy.
Methods: We followed 7592 HCP from November 15, 2021 through April 17, 2022. Full COVID-19 vaccination was defined as a primary vaccination series plus a booster dose at least six months later.

Prosthetic joint infections (PJIs) caused by fungi, although relatively rare, represent a major surgery-related complication. An extremely rare fungal PJI, following revised total knee replacement (TKR) caused by , is reported, and a meticulous review of similar cases is provided. A 74-year-old female, who underwent primary total knee arthroplasty 10 years ago and a revision surgery three weeks ago, presented with signs and symptoms of PJI.

Objectives: Superficial benign parotid tumors are a common neoplasm of the salivary glands. Different surgical procedures have been applied for partial superficial parotidectomy (PSP) and extracapsular dissection (ECD), which are the two predominant surgical techniques. Our study aimed to evaluate PSP versus ECD for benign parotid tumors, in relation to post-operative complications and recurrence rates.

Fungal hip prosthetic joint infections (PJIs) are rare but severe infections. Their incidence has increased in the last decades due to the aging population, as well as due to the increased number of immunosuppressed hosts. The present review of all published fungal PJIs in hip arthroplasties aims to present as much data as possible for both medical and surgical treatment options, so that the best applicable management may be concluded.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to evaluate the comparability of corneal power measurements, anterior chamber depth (ACD), and white-to-white (WTW) distance between a high-resolution Scheimpflug-based tomography (Pentacam HR; Oculus GmbH, Wetzlar, Germany) and a swept-source optical biometry, IOL Master 700; Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany) in patients having undergone a myopic refractive surgery.
Methods: This prospective, interinstrument reliability analysis included 31 individuals with a previous myopic laser refractive correction. Standard keratometry and total keratometry (TK) of the flattest and steepest axis of the IOL Master 700 were compared with standard keratometry (simulated keratometry [SimK]), true net power (TNP), equivalent keratometer readings (EKR), and total corneal refractive power of the Pentacam.

Bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws represents a well-recognized complication occurring in patients being administered drugs for the treatment of osteoporosis and/or malignant disease. Treatment of this condition, aiming to alleviate the symptoms and restore functional status, represents a challenge for the maxillofacial surgeon. Conservative management has been proposed for early stages of this condition, while surgical intervention is mandatory for advanced disease.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality in both developed and developing countries. The incidence of pancreatic cancer in China accounts for about a quater of the global incidence, and the epidemiological characteristics and therapeutic strategies differ due to social, economic, cultural, environmental, and public health factors. Non-domestic guidelines do not reflect the clinicopathologic characteristics and treatment patterns of Chinese patients.

To report a rare event of a retrograde flow of cement leakage during balloon kyphoplasty and discuss the possible mechanism. We present a 55-year-old male patient, who underwent a 4-level balloon kyphoplasty for Langerhans histiocytosis that had spread to the spine. With the patient prone under general anesthesia, intrathoracic pressure was raised as a precaution measure to prevent cement embolic complications as a protocol reported elsewhere.
