The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted interest in identifying reliable biomarkers to predict disease severity and guide clinical decisions. Prolactin (PRL), a hormone traditionally associated with lactation, has gained attention for its role in immune modulation. This study aimed to assess PRL as a biomarker for disease severity in COVID-19.

: Chemerin, which is a multifunctional cytokine and adipokine, has been implicated in inflammatory and metabolic processes and might play a role in upper gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies, particularly gastric and esophageal cancer. The aim of this review is to explore the role of chemerin in the pathophysiology of upper GI cancers, as well as its potential as a biomarker for early detection and as a therapeutic target. : A comprehensive review of recent studies about chemerin's biochemical properties and interaction with its receptors, as well as its effects on inflammatory responses, immune regulation, and metabolic processes, was conducted.

Gastric cancer stands as a significant global health challenge, ranking among the top malignancies worldwide in terms of prevalence and mortality. Despite advances in treatment modalities, including surgical intervention and chemotherapy, its prognosis remains largely unfavorable, with late-stage diagnoses contributing to high mortality rates. In recent years, attention has turned to inflammation-based prognostic markers, notably the CRP to albumin ratio (CAR), as potential indicators of disease progression and patient outcomes postoperatively.

Background: Recent research has underscored the critical role of blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity in psychiatric disorders, highlighting disruptions in tight junction (TJ) proteins, specifically claudin-5 and occludin. These proteins are pivotal in maintaining the BBB's selective permeability, which is essential forbrain homeostasis. Altered levels of the TJ proteins have been observed in various psychiatric conditions, suggesting potential as biomarkers for the pathophysiology of these disorders.

Gastrectomy, a prevalent surgical procedure for gastric cancer, results in substantial alterations to the gastrointestinal tract, including reduced gastric acid production and significant modifications to the gut microbiota. These changes can impair postoperative recovery, influence metabolic functions, and predispose patients to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Studies have shown an increased risk of IBD, particularly Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), in patients following gastrectomy and bariatric surgeries such as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG).

Drug-induced aseptic meningitis represents a significant clinical entity characterized by an inflammatory response of the meninges triggered by specific pharmacological agents. This condition predominantly manifests as a delayed hypersensitivity reaction to a variety of drugs, most notably non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and monoclonal antibodies. We report a case of aseptic meningitis in a 54-year-old male presenting with nausea and blurred vision two hours after taking ibuprofen.

We present a rare case of delayed femoral nerve palsy resulting from a pseudo-aneurysm presenting as excruciating anterior thigh pain 2 months after an uneventful total hip arthroplasty through a Watson Jones approach. The large pseudo-aneurysm of the posterior wall of the femoral artery was treated with open exploration and artery repair since the anatomy of the lesion precluded an embolization. Although pain resolved immediately, the recovery of the femoral nerve started after 3 months, while full quadriceps function was restored by the 6th month.
