Long-Term Outcome of Transcutaneous Posterior Tibial Nerve Stimulation in the Treatment of Functional Non-Retentive Fecal Incontinence in Children.

Background: Functional non-retentive fecal incontinence (FNRFI) is a psychologically upsetting and embarrassing issue and affects children's quality of life negatively.

Aim Of This Study: Evaluation of the short and long-term effect of Bilateral transcutaneous posterior tibial nerve stimulation (BTPTNS) in the treatment of FNRFI in children and its impact on the quality of life (QoL). Methodology: The current randomized controlled study included 94 Children with FNRFI who were randomly allocated into two equal groups.

Creating synergies among education/research, practice, and policy environments to build capacity for the scholar role in occupational therapy and physiotherapy in the Canadian context.

Scholarly practice (SP) is considered a key competency of occupational therapy and physiotherapy. To date, the three sectors-education/research, practice, and policy/regulation-that support SP have been working relatively independently. The goals of this project were to (a) understand how representatives of the three sectors conceptualize SP; (b) define each sector's individual and collective roles in supporting SP; (c) identify factors influencing the enactment of SP and the specific needs of how best to support SP; and (d) co-develop goals and strategies to support SP across all sectors.

Multidisciplinary physical rehabilitation program of individuals with spinal muscular atrophy in an inclusive school setting.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neuromuscular ailment that leads to the deprivation of motor neurons in the spinal cord, producing denervation and muscle weakness. This case report explains how a patient with type 2 SMA used a therapeutic exercise rehabilitation program in a school environment. Motor functions were assessed by Gross Motor Function Measure-88 (GMFM-88), Manual Muscle Testing (MMT), and Hammersmith Functional Motor Scale (HFMS), which is validated and reliable.

Pain symptoms and physical performance in older adults: cross-sectional findings from the International Mobility in Aging Study (IMIAS).

Purpose: To analyze the associations between pain and physical performance in different aging contexts.

Methods: Data from 1725 older adults from Canada, Brazil, Colombia, and Albania from the 2014 wave of the IMIAS were used to assess the associations between Back Pain (BP) or Lower Limb Pain (LLP) and physical performance by the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB). Three binary logistic regression models adjusted for sex, age, study site, education, income sufficiency, BMI, depressive symptoms, and chronic conditions were used to estimate the associations between LLP or BP and SPPB.

Comparing the Efficacy of Local Corticosteroid Injection, Platelet-Rich Plasma, and Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy in the Treatment of Pes Anserine Bursitis: A Prospective, Randomized, Comparative Study.

Background: Pes anserine bursitis (PAB) is one of the most common causes of painful knee syndromes. This study aimed at examining the efficacy of local corticosteroid injection, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection, and extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) as different modalities to alleviate pain and enhance function in patients with pes anserine bursitis (PAB).

Methods: A prospective, randomized, comparative study was conducted on 180 patients diagnosed with chronic PAB.

Role of Rehabilitation Exercise on Myofascial Pain Syndrome Causing Upper Back Pain.

Upper back pain is as painful or troublesome as the pain in the lower back or the neck. Myofascial pain syndrome which is most common cause of upper back pain is characterized by localized musculoskeletal pain and tenderness in association with trigger points. The aim of the study was to correlate the improvement of myofascial pain syndrome patients with proper and timely physical therapy.

The effects of low-intensity resistance training with blood flow restriction versus traditional resistance exercise on lower extremity muscle strength and motor functionin ischemic stroke survivors: a randomized controlled trial.

Background: Blood flow restriction (BFR) training can temporarily reduce cortical GABA concentrations and increase the size of motor volleys to deafferented muscles, which can promote motor recovery in stroke survivors.

Objective: To determine the effect of low-intensity resistance training with BFR (LIRT-BFR) on lower extremity muscle strength, balance, functional mobility, walking capacity, gait speed, anxiety, and depression in stroke survivors and to compare the results with high-intensity resistance training (HIRT).

Method: It was a two-arm, single-blinded, randomized controlled trial in which 32 ischemic stroke participants were randomly allocated to LIRT-BFR or HIRT group.

Sensory deficits of the paretic and non-paretic upper limbs relate with the motor recovery of the poststroke subjects.

Background: Post stroke, motor paresis has usually been considered to be a crucial factor responsible for the disability; other impairments such as somatosensory deficits may also play a role.

Objective: To determine the relation between the sensory deficits (paretic and non-paretic upper limbs) and the motor recovery of the paretic upper limb and to predict the potential of motor recovery based on the sensory deficits among stroke subjects.

Methods: The study was a cross-sectional study conducted in a rehabilitation institute.

Acceptability and Feasibility of a Tai Chi/Qigong Intervention for Older People Living With HIV.

Tai chi/qigong (TCQ) is a low impact, meditative movement with breathwork that may benefit people with HIV (PWH) over 50 years old. This study is a feasibility clinical trial of a remote TCQ intervention for older PWH. Participants (n = 48) were recruited via clinic sites and social media and randomized to a TCQ, sham qigong, or wait-list control group.

Fractional CO laser versus 1064-nm long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser for inflammatory acne vulgaris treatment: a randomized clinical trial.

Acne vulgaris is challenging to treat for several individuals. Laser therapy may be a desirable alternative to traditional therapies with limited success. This study aimed to assess efficacy of fractional CO laser versus Nd:YAG laser for acne vulgaris therapy.

Effects of early mobilisation program on functional capacity, daily living activities, and N-terminal prohormone brain natriuretic peptide in patients hospitalised for acute heart failure. A randomised controlled trial.

Background: Patients hospitalised for acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) show reduced functional capacity, limited activities of daily living (ADL), and elevated N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP). The management of these patients focuses mainly on medical therapy with little consideration for in-patient cardiac rehabilitation. There has been a growing interest in evaluating the efficacy of early mobilisation, as the core for in-hospital rehabilitation, in ADHF patients in the last decade; however, the randomised trials on this topic are few.

Effect of neural mobilisation in Bell's palsy: A randomised controlled trial.

Background: Neural mobilisation technique is effective in spinal nerve rehabilitation. However, no study has reported the effect of facial nerve mobilisation in acute Bell's palsy.

Objectives: The objective of our study was to evaluate the effect of facial neural mobilisation over conventional therapy in improving facial symmetry in patients with acute Bell's palsy.

Background: Around the globe there are 2.4 billion people in need of rehabilitation. Disability and rehabilitation have not gained much importance in the public health arena, possibly due to limited research and awareness regarding the significance of rehabilitation.

Short-Term Pulmonary Rehabilitation Among Post-Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients During Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic.

Objective: Coronavirus disease 2019 is expected to have a widespread and significant impact on pulmonary tuberculosis services. This study aims to investigate the effect of comprehensive short-term, outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation program among treated pulmonary tuberculosis patients during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

Material And Methods: Forty-five pulmonary tuberculosis patients who completed their tuberculosis treatment were randomly allocated to the outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation group and the other 45 were allocated to the control group for 4 weeks.

Pain Treatment Services; A National Survey Of Tertiary Care Hospitals In Pakistan.

Methods: The study was conducted at the Aga Khan University, Karachi, from January to June 2022, and comprised data of all public and private tertiary care hospitals anywhere in Pakistan that were registered with the Pakistan Medical Council till November 25, 2021. Data was collected using a predesigned Google form.
