Background: Coronary care units are sophisticated clinics established to reduce deaths due to acute cardiovascular events. Current data on coronary care unit mortality rates and predictors of mortality in Turkey are very limited. The MORtality predictors in CORonary care units in TURKey (MORCOR-TURK) trial was designed to provide information on the mortality rates and predictors in patients followed in coronary care units in Turkey.

Accurately identifying coronary artery disease (CAD) is the key element in guiding the work-up of patients with suspected angina. Thickening of the arterial wall is a hallmark of atherosclerosis. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to determine whether abdominal aortic intima-media thickness (AAIMT), which is the earliest zone of atherosclerotic manifestations, has a predictive value in CAD severity.

Left ventricular thrombus (LVT) is associated with inflammatory response in survivors with anterior ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR) has been proposed as a marker of inflammation. However, there is a lack of data with respect to the role of CAR in LVT development.

Background: Despite improvements in treatment of ST-segment myocardial infarction (STEMI), thrombus formation in the left ventricle is still a concerning complication that may lead to systemic thromboembolism and stroke.

Objectives: To evaluate the predictive value of estimated whole blood viscosity (WBV) for left ventricular thrombus development in patients surviving an acute anterior myocardial infarction (AAMI).MATERIALS \& METHODS:Seven hundred eighty AAMI patients who were treated percutaneously were enrolled consecutively.

Left atrial function has an important role in determining optimal performance of the heart. Increase of left atrial dysfunction and volume are poor prognostic factors. In this study, we investigated independent determinants of left atrial function in non-diabetic patients with de novo hypertension.

The value of syntax score to predict new-onset atrial fibrillation in patients with acute coronary syndrome.

Ann Noninvasive Electrocardiol

July 2019

Department of Cardiology, Trabzon Ahi Evren Training and Research Hospital, University of Health Science, Trabzon, Turkey.

Background And Aim: New-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) has been associated with poor outcome in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Also, Syntax score (SS) is a scoring system that is derived from angiographic images and is associated with long-term mortality and major adverse cardiac events. In this study, we aimed to assess the relationship between SS and NOAF with known predictors of atrial fibrillation.

Objective: To investigate plasma chemerin levels in ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients and find out possible relationships between plasma chemerin levels and angiographic characteristics.

Patients And Methods: Ninety-seven consecutive patients who presented with STEMI and underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with coronary stents were enrolled, and 30 age- and sex-matched patients with stable angina pectoris who underwent coronary angiography formed the control group. Angiographic characteristics of the patients including thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) thrombus and Gensini scores were noted.

Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries is a rare form of CHD. Situs inversus is a much less common variant of a congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries. In rare cases, transposition events may be accompanied by various cardiac anomalies.

Objective: Ischemia-modified albumin (IMA), a novel biochemical marker, is known to reflect ischemia in early phases of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). In the present study, we evaluated the role of IMA on the prediction of coronary atherosclerotic plaque burden and ischemic burden in patients with non-ST-segment-elevation acute coronary syndromes (NSTEACS).

Patients And Methods: Ninety-six consecutive NSTEACS patients presented within the first three hours of symptom onset were prospectively enrolled in this study.

Endocan is a soluble proteoglycan, secreted by human vascular endothelial cells. Endocan is a marker for vascular pathologies and an important mediator of angiogenesis, strongly associated with inflammation, vascular endothelial dysfunction, and atherosclerosis. The relationship between coronary artery ectasia (CAE) and endocan has not been evaluated.

In the present study, we aimed to evaluate temporal changes in heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (h-FABP) and myocardial performance index (Tei index) following administration of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), a chemotherapeutic agent associated with myocardial ischemia induced by coronary vasospasm. Thirty-two patients with cancer receiving their first 5-FU-based chemotherapy were included in the study. Prior to chemotherapy and 24 hours after the initiation of chemotherapy, all patients underwent a comprehensive echocardiographic examination.

Background: The objective of the study is to evaluate the reliability of mean platelet volume (MPV) for predicting ischemic stroke (cerebrovascular event [CVE]) among patients with different degrees of carotid stenosis.

Methods: Fifty-two patients with CVEs, 136 patients with carotid artery disease (CAD), and 40 healthy volunteers were enrolled in this study. All participants were divided into the following groups according to CAD: absence of stenosis, less than 50% stenosis, 50%-69% stenosis, and 70% or more to total occlusion of the internal carotid artery.

Objective: Oxidative stress plays a major role in the development of atherosclerosis. However, the relationship between oxidative stress and complexity and intensity of coronary artery disease is less clear. The aim of this study is to assess the relationship between oxidative stress markers and the complexity and intensity of coronary artery disease in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).
