Objective: The current fertilization methods for Chinese yam are uneconomic and unfriend to environment. A rational one is very important to achieve desired balance of high yield of Chinese yam, economic and friend to environment. Here, we studied the effects of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) fertilizers on the yield of 'Qinfeng' Chinese yam in shallow-groove directional cultivation.

Two Gram-positive, rod-shaped, motile, endospore-forming strains, FJAT-49780 and FJAT-49732 were isolated from a citrus rhizosphere soil sample. The optimal growth temperatures for strains FJAT-49780 and FJAT-49732 were 45 and 35-40 °C, respectively. The optimal growth pH for strains FJAT-49732 and FJAT-49780 were pH 8.

A Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, facultatively anaerobic, motile and spore-forming strain designated FJAT-44921 was isolated from red mud collected from Chiping County, Shandong Province, China. The 16S rRNA gene sequence result showed that strain FJAT-44921 shared a low sequence identity (96.6%) with the members of the genus Bacillus.

Two alkaliphilic strains, designated FJAT-45086 and FJAT-45122, were isolated from alkali soli in Nima County, Tibet, China. Both strains were Gram-positive, rod-shaped and shared low 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with the members of the genus Bacillus. They contained meso-diaminopimelic acid as the cell-wall diamino acid and MK-7 as the menaquinone.

The heterogeneity of avirulent -mutant, virulent wildtype strain FJAT-91 and spontaneous avirulent strain FJAT-1458 were compared and analyzed by using high performance ion-exchange chromatography (HPIEC). Their colony and cell morphologies were observed, and the contents of their extracellular polysaccharides (EPS) were determined. The results showed that the colony and cell morphologies of FJAT-91 were different from the original strain FJAT-91, but were similar to the spontaneous avirulent strain FJAT-1458.

A Gram-stain-positive, rod-shaped, endospore-forming, aerobic bacterium, designated strain FJAT-25547T, was isolated from the purplish paddy soil collected from Linshan Township, Yanting Prefecture of Sichuan Province in PR China (31° 16' N 105° 27' E). Growth was achieved aerobically at temperatures between 15 and 40 °C (optimum 30 °C), with between 0 and 10.0 % NaCl (w/v) (optimum 4 %) and in the range of pH 5.

An iTRAQ-based comparative and quantitative proteomics analysis of a soil-borne Mn(II)-oxidizing bacterium, Escherichia coli MB266, was conducted during the exponential and stationary growth phases. A total of 1850 proteins were identified in 4 samples, of which 373 and 456 proteins were significantly up- or down-regulated in at least one pairwise comparison, respectively. The iTRAQ data indicated that several enzymes involved in fatty acid metabolism (i.

Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) strain FJAT-12 was a novel Bt strain isolated by Agricultural Bio-Resources Institute, Fujian Academy of Agricultural Science. In this study, a new cry2Ab gene was cloned from Bt strain FJAT-12 and named as cry2Ab30 by Bt delta-endotoxin Nomenclature Committee. The sequencing results showed there were two mutations in conservative sites which led to two amino acids modification.

Strain FLQ-11-1, isolated from sewage sludge, was able to degrade cyfluthrin and was identified as Lysinibacillus sphaericus based on its morphology, 16S rRNA sequence and fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) analyses. This strain could use cyfluthrin as its carbon or nitrogen source. Response surface methodology (RSM) analysis showed that the optimum conditions for degradation were at pH 7.

Conjugation of Bacillus thuringiensis δ-endotoxin (Bt toxin) with other toxins for insect pest control has been proposed as a new efficient strategy with increasing insecticidal toxicity and target range and delay the onset of insect resistance. A modified method was investigated by conjugating Bt toxin with 4"-O-succinoyl abamectin to form a new biocide which was named as BtA. 'Zero-length' cross-linker EDC in combination with NHS activated 4"-O-succinoyl abamectin and extended half-life period of active intermediate for binding to Bt toxin.

4'-Thiosemicarbazonegriseofulvin, a new thiosemicarbazide derivative of griseofulvin, was synthesized and evaluated for its potential in the control of enzymatic browning and postharvest disease of fruits. Browning on fruits is mainly due to the enzymatic oxidation of phenolic compounds catalyzed by tyrosinase. 4'-Thiosemicarbazonegriseofulvin could effectively inhibit the activity of tyrosinase, and its 50% inhibitory concentration (IC(50)) against tyrosinase was determined to be 37.
