Objectives: To investigate the agreement between the EXTEM and NATEM measurements.

Methods: In this retrospective observational study, EXTEM and NATEM analyses were performed on blood samples from 162 ill neonates, providing 324 paired measurements. The agreement between EXTEM and NATEM measurements was evaluated by the nonparametric spearman's rank correlation to assess the correlation between the paired measurements, by the Bland-Altman analysis for the graphical presentation of the agreement, and by the Deming regression model to assess the significance of the agreement.

In some subjects with inherited pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma (PPG) syndromes, hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF1α) stabilization/activation could lead to an increase in angiotensin converting enzymes (ACE). This would result in the stimulation of angiotensin (AT) II production and, hence, reduce the availability of ACE 2. The latter would provide decreased numbers of binding sites for the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 and, therefore, result in less points of viral entry into cells.

Over a period of 67 months (July 2014-February 2020) 423 critically ill neonates with confirmed or suspected sepsis, perinatal hypoxia, or respiratory distress syndrome, hospitalized in our neonatal intensive care unit were included in the study. Empty scrotum is a relatively rare entity, with few cases reported in the literature, so far; if it coexists with bilateral ectopic femoral testes, it then constitutes an extremely rare congenital abnormality. We report a case of empty scrotum revealed at the first physical examination of a neonate. The scrotum appeared empty and no testes could be palpated in the scrotum or the inguinal canal.
