Predisposing factors for advanced liver fibrosis in patients with sickle cell disease.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is one of the most common monogenic disorders worldwide and liver complications are common in this group of patients. Our study aims to highlight the prevalence of chronic liver complications and the main predisposing factors for advanced liver fibrosis in SCD patients. For this purpose, 219 patients from eight Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Units across Greece enrolled in our study and history of liver related disease complications was recorded, as well as a full laboratory and imaging analysis concerning their liver function.

During the last century National Immunization Program (NIP) were implemented worldwide. The program started with a small number of vaccines for universal administration to infants and young children. In the second half of the century an evolution (slow in the start and rapid later) occurred in the structure of NIPs especially in developed countries.

Management of neglected giant omphalocele with Gore-tex in a child aged 8 years.

Omphalocele is a disease of neonatal age and its present management is successful in almost all specialized centers of Pediatric Surgery. A case of an 8-year-old girl who was managed with conservative treatment during her neonatal period with mercurochrome (Grob method) is presented. Due to very serious congenital cardiopathy, a corrective operative procedure of the omphalocele was not feasible during neonatal age.
