Background: The benefits of novel androgen receptor axis-targeted agents (ARATs) on oncological outcomes in patients with non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) in real-world settings are unclear.
Methods: This multi-institutional retrospective study included 178 patients with nmCRPC treated between September 2003 and August 2022. Patients were divided into two groups: those who were treated with any novel ARATs, including apalutamide, enzalutamide, darolutamide, and abiraterone acetate, during any line of nmCRPC treatment (novel ARATs group) and those who were not (control group).

Background: Efficacy of necitumumab [recombinant human monoclonal antibody that blocks the ligand binding epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)] in patients with squamous (SQ) non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has been confirmed in two randomized clinical trials (SQUIRE and JFCM). This study evaluated the association between efficacy and initial skin toxicity with necitumumab treatment by analyzing pooled data from two clinical trials (SQUIRE and JFCM).
Materials And Methods: Data of 635 patients with SQ-NSCLC (intent-to-treat population) treated with necitumumab plus gemcitabine and cisplatin (N + GC) were pooled from two clinical trials (SQUIRE and JFCM).

Purpose: Surgical thromboendarterectomy has been the gold standard treatment for common femoral artery (CFA) disease. However, endovascular therapy (EVT) is conducted in certain patients with CFA lesions because of multiple comorbidities. The interwoven nitinol stent (IWS) has been developed to prevent stent fracture.

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more useful as a decision-making and outcomes predictor tool. We have developed AI models to predict surgical complexity and the postoperative course in laparoscopic liver surgery for segments 7 and 8.
Methods: We included patients with lesions located in segments 7 and 8 operated by minimally invasive liver surgery from an international multi-institutional database.

Background: Acute asthma exacerbation in children is often caused by respiratory infections. In this study, a coordinated national surveillance system for acute asthma hospitalizations and causative respiratory infections was established. We herein report recent trends in pediatric acute asthma hospitalizations since the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan.

Background: Early laparoscopic cholecystectomy (ELC) is the standard treatment for acute cholecystitis (AC). However, predicting the difficulty of this procedure remains challenging. The present study aimed to develop an improved prediction model for surgical difficulty during ELC, surpassing the current Tokyo Guidelines 2018 (TG18) grading system.

The optimal time to ambulation remains unclear for intensive care unit (ICU) patients following abdominal surgery. While previous studies have explored various mobilization techniques, a direct comparison between ambulation and other early mobilization methods is lacking. Additionally, the impact of time to ambulation on complications and disuse syndrome prevention requires further investigation.

Background: Limited anatomic resections (LARs), such as segmentectomies, performed using a fully laparoscopic approach, have gained popularity for liver malignancies. However, the oncologic efficacy of laparoscopic LARs (Lap-LARs) needs further investigation. This cohort study evaluated the oncologic outcomes of Lap-LAR for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM).

Introduction: We aimed to evaluate the safety and short-term outcomes of robotic-assisted transabdominal preperitoneal repair for inguinal hernia in 12 pioneering hospitals in Japan.
Methods: Clinical data of patients who underwent robotic-assisted transabdominal preperitoneal repair between September 1, 2016, and December 31, 2021 were collected. Primary outcome measures were intra-operative adverse events and post-operative complications, whereas secondary outcomes were surgical outcomes, including chronic pain, recurrence, and learning curve.

Introduction: Knowledge of the clinical liver anatomy has evolved with advanced imaging modalities and laparoscopic surgery. Therefore, precise anatomical resection knowledge has become the standard treatment for primary and secondary liver cancer. Segmentectomy, a parenchymal-preserving approach, is regarded as an option for anatomical resections in patients with impaired liver.

Introduction: Symptom-related adverse events associated with perioperative chemotherapy in patients with breast cancer include short-term adverse events such as nausea and vomiting. However, changes in the severity and duration of prolonged symptom-related adverse events have not been fully investigated. We present a protocol of a study that aims to clarify the prevalence of symptom-related adverse events in patients with breast cancer 1 year after neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy using an electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO) system.
