September 2024

Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Oczapowskiego 13, 10-718 Olsztyn, Poland.

This study analysed the influence of montelukast (MON), a cysteinyl leukotriene receptor antagonist, and nifedipine, an L-type voltage-gated Ca2+ channel blocker, on the contractility of the porcine uterine smooth muscle. Myometrial strips were collected from the sexually immature (n=8), cyclic (12-14 days of the oestrous cycle; n=8) and pregnant (27-28 days of pregnancy; n=8) gilts and stimulated with a) MON or nifedipine at concentrations of 10-8-10-4 M and b) increasing concentrations of nifedipine after previous administration of MON at a concentration of 10-4 M. The changes in the tension, amplitude and frequency of contractions were determined with the Hugo Sachs Elektronik equipment for measuring isometric contractions.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigated how the load-velocity relationship variables change after different levels of fatigue induced by hexagonal barbell deadlift exercises in male resistance-trained individuals.
  • In three sessions, participants underwent either control (no training), moderate fatigue (5 sets at 70% 1RM), or high fatigue (5 sets to failure at 70% 1RM) protocols, with pre- and post-session load-velocity tests to measure changes.
  • Results showed that both 1 repetition maximum (1RM) and velocity variables were significantly reduced more in the high-fatigue condition, indicating that load-velocity relationship variables can effectively monitor fatigue levels during resistance training.

October 2024

Engineering Faculty, Electrical Engineering Department, Afyon Kocatepe University, 03200, Afyonkarahisar, Turkey.

Body measurements are primarily made with a tape measure. In measurements taken with a tape measure, the inability to take measurements from the same part of the body each time, incorrect positioning of the tape measure, the occurrence of incorrect measurements, and the need for a person to take the measurements are significant problems in the traditional measurement method. Due to the social distancing rule that must be followed during the Covid-19 pandemic, the close contact between the person to be measured and the person taking the measurement became the starting point of this study.

In rat models, it is well-documented that chronic administration of propionic acid (PPA) leads to autism-like behaviors. Although the intranasal (IN) insulin approach is predominantly recognized for its effects on food restriction, it has also been shown to enhance cognitive memory by influencing various proteins, modulating anti-inflammatory pathways in the brain, and reducing signaling molecules such as interleukins. This study seeks to explore the potential therapeutic benefits of IN insulin in a rat model of autism induced by PPA.
