Background: Rift Valley Fever (RVF) is a mosquito-borne zoonotic disease that poses a serious threat to both humans and livestock across various regions, particularly in Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and parts of the Indian Ocean Islands. This study seeks to analyze the spatial and temporal distribution and trends of RVF outbreaks within the East African Community (EAC) countries, offering insights into the patterns and progression of these outbreaks in the region.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases (ProMed), a digital, event-based disease surveillance system, to identify reports of outbreak events in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and South Sudan from 2010 to 2024.

Auto-encoders have demonstrated outstanding performance in computer vision tasks such as biomedical imaging, including classification, segmentation, and denoising. Many of the current techniques for image denoising in biomedical applications involve training an autoencoder or convolutional neural network (CNN) using pairs of clean and noisy images. This work addresses the problem of supervised classification for highly correlated high-dimensional data describing non-independent observations to identify SNPs related to a phenotype. We use a general penalized linear mixed model with a single random effect that performs simultaneous SNP selection and population structure adjustment in high-dimensional prediction models. Specifically, the model simultaneously selects variables and estimates their effects, taking into account correlations between individuals.

Cells mechanically interact with their environment to sense, for example, topography, elasticity and mechanical cues from other cells. Mechano-sensing has profound effects on cellular behaviour, including motility. The current study aims to develop a mathematical model of cellular mechano-sensing on planar elastic substrates and demonstrate the model's predictive capabilities for the motility of individual cells in a colony.
