Article Synopsis
  • Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) can cause severe brain injury, and the study explores the neuroprotective properties of Asiatic acid (AA) from the plant Centella asiatica as a potential treatment.
  • In male rats with induced SAH, AA administration significantly improved neurological deficits and reduced neuron damage and iron build-up, with evidence that AA interacts with a protein called ACOX1, which is affected by SAH.
  • The study findings suggest that AA reduces neuronal cell death caused by ferroptosis by targeting ACOX1, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic option for brain injuries following SAH.

Post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) is one of the most common long-term complications of lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT). In order to study the long-term adverse prognosis of patients with DVT, explore the influencing factors for the prognosis of DVT, and provide a reliable reference for future research in the field of venous thrombosis, we collected and summarized information about the incidence of PTS, the PTS score and grading, the associated symptoms and drug-related adverse reactions in 501 patients with DVT. In our study, 54.

mir-605-3p prevents liver premetastatic niche formation by inhibiting angiogenesis via decreasing exosomal nos3 release in gastric cancer.

Cancer Cell Int

May 2024

Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Affliated Hospital of Nantong University, Medical School of Nantong University, 20 Xisi Street, Nantong, Jiangsu, 226001, China.

Background: Cancer-induced pre-metastatic niches (PMNs) play a decisive role in promoting metastasis by facilitating angiogenesis in distant sites. Evidence accumulates suggesting that microRNAs (miRNAs) exert significant influence on angiogenesis during PMN formation, yet their specific roles and regulatory mechanisms in gastric cancer (GC) remain underexplored.

Methods: miR-605-3p was identified through miRNA-seq and validated by qRT-PCR.

Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Affliated Hospital of Nantong University, Medical School of Nantong University, 20 Xisi Street, Nantong, 226001, China.

Background: The Enoyl-CoA hydratase/isomerase family plays a crucial role in the metabolism of tumors, being crucial for maintaining the energy balance and biosynthetic needs of cancer cells. However, the enzymes within this family that are pivotal in gastric cancer (GC) remain unclear.

Methods: We employed bioinformatics techniques to identify key Enoyl-CoA hydratase/isomerase in GC.

Background: FABP3 is a member of the fatty acid-binding protein (FABP) family, whose role in various cancers has been reported in the past. However, little is known about the role that FABP3 plays in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs).

Methods: FABP3 expression was analyzed in 119 patients with GISTs using immunohistochemistry and tissue microarrays to interrogate the relationship between expression and prognosis.

An aberrant expression of microRNA-21 (miR-21) has been found in multiple human cancers, including lung carcinoma. Our work aims at investigating the role of miR-21 in human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells and cells treated with 5-fluorouracil and their potential molecular mechanisms. A549 cells were transfected with an miR-21 mimic, an miR-21 inhibitor, and their respective negative controls using Lipofectamine 2000.

Overexpression of KIF20A confers malignant phenotype of lung adenocarcinoma by promoting cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis.

Cancer Med

September 2018

The Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Jiangsu Cancer Hospital, Jiangsu Insititute of Cancer Research, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China.

Increasing studies showed that kinesin family member 20A (KIF20A) was overexpessed in several types of cancer, and its overexpression correlated with the oncogenesis and prognosis of cancers. However, little is known about the role of KIF20A in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). In this study, we employed the bioinformatics analysis to identify the upregulation of KIF20A in LUAD, then verified the results in human tumor specimens and LUAD cell lines.

Anxiety and depression in primary Sjögren's syndrome: a cross-sectional study.

BMC Psychiatry

May 2018

Department of Rheumatology, Affliated Hospital of Nantong University, 20th Xisi road, 226001, Nantong, People's Republic of China.

Background: Prevalence of anxiety and depression is high in people with Primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS). However, there are currently no known reported studies about anxiety/depression in pSS patients from China. Our aim was to compare anxiety/depression in pSS patients and healthy controls; to investigate the prevalence of anxiety and/or depression among pSS patients in China; to evaluate its relationship with the disease activity, fatigue, pain, education, ocular surface disease, oral health, swallowing disorders, employment status, European League Against Rheumatism Sjögren's Syndrome Patient Reported Index(ESSPRI) as well as to analyze potential determinants of anxiety and depression.

Objective: To investigate the expression and significance of FoxM1 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cell lines and tissues.

Methods: Western blot assay was used to detect the expression of FoxM1 in human esophageal epithelial cells and esophageal squamous cell cancer cell lines TE1, TE10, TE11 and Eca109 cells. To determine whether down-regulation of FoxM1 expression could inhibit the aggressive phenotype of ESCC cells, we knocked down the expression of FoxM1 by using FoxM1-shRNA in TE1 cells.

Evidence has shown that miR-146a is involved in carcinogenesis and a common G/C variant (rs2910164) in the pre-miR-146a gene has been found to be associated with various cancers. We investigated the potential prognostic role of miR-146a polymorphism in prostate cancer after radical prostatectomy. Seventy-two southern Chinese with prostate cancer undergoing radical prostatectomy were included in this study.
