Objective: To assess the correlation between the total decelerations area in the final 120 min before delivery and neonatal cord blood pH in postdate pregnancies.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included women with gestational age greater than 41 weeks, singleton pregnancy, and a category II electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) of at least 30 min during the final 120 min before delivery. We included postdate deliveries of an otherwise low-risk parturient population.

Urolithiasis is a frequent disease with cited rates of recurrence after initial diagnosis that vary widely and range between 35% and 50%. We assessed the radiographic recurrence rate in patients with urinary stones and its risk factors. We retrospectively identified patients who were diagnosed with urinary stones on non-contrast computed tomography from 2010 to 2011, and underwent another imaging examination at least six months afterwards.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated changes in pediatric foreign body aspiration (FBA) cases during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to previous years, finding fewer visits to emergency departments overall.
  • A total of 345 children with FBA were studied, showing a decline in cases during lockdown (5.1 average monthly cases) compared to the pre-COVID-19 average (5.75 cases), with an increase in cases post-lockdown (6.3 cases).
  • Results indicated no overall change in the prevalence of FBA during the pandemic year, but there was a significant increase in the use of flexible bronchoscopy for removal, rising from 15.4% to 30.4%.

Background: Conversion from spinal anaesthesia to general anaesthesia (GA) was shown to be associated with more complications. It has been postulated that spinal injection of a low dose of local anaesthetic is a risk factor. We aimed to discover the rate of conversion from spinal anaesthesia to GA in women who received at least 10 mg heavy bupivacaine and opioids and assess its risk factors.

Most patients with ureterolithiasis are managed successfully with conservative treatment. In this context, delineation of clinical risk factors that identify patients with low risk for surgical intervention may reduce use of Non-Contrast Computed Tomography (NCCT). Here, emergency department patient files from a 14-month period were reviewed retrospectively, to identify patients who underwent NCCT and showed a ureteral stone.

Department of Radiology, Hadassah Hebrew University Hospital, Jerusalem, Israel; Affiliated with the Hebrew University Medical School, Jerusalem, Israel. Electronic address:

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the incremental value of preoperative breast MRI over mammography and US in depicting the accurate extent of disease in invasive duct carcinoma (IDC) compared to invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC).

Patients And Methods: Retrospective analysis of pre-operative mammography, US and MRI was performed in 239 patients with either IDC (n = 193) or ILC (n = 46). Images were evaluated for solitary, multifocal or multi centric disease and compared for concordance with postsurgical pathology.

Nanomedicines have revolutionized the treatment of certain types of cancer, as is the case of doxil, liposomal formulation with doxorubicin encapsulated, in the treatment of certain types of ovarian cancer, AIDS-related Kaposi sarcoma, and multiple myeloma. These nanomedicines can improve the performance of conventional chemotherapeutic treatments, with fewer side effects and better efficiency against cancer. Although liposomes have been used in some formulations, different nanocarriers with better features in terms of stability and adsorption capabilities are being explored.

Design of a fully intraureteral stent and proof-of-concept evaluation.

Transl Androl Urol

June 2022

Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel.

Background: Ureteral stents are employed regularly to facilitate urine drainage and ureteral healing in a wide variety of endourological procedures, associated mainly with ureteral stone obstruction. However, stent use frequently impairs patient quality of life, which is generally attributed to the presence of anchoring stent curls in the bladder and/or kidney. The purpose of this study was to examine the potential effectiveness and safety of a newly designed, fully intraureteral stent, in an initial proof-of-concept evaluation.

Purpose: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the ability of ureteral stents with different diameters to drain pus that accumulates in an obstructed kidney using an in vitro model.

Methods: We developed an in vitro model of an obstructed kidney filled with pus. The model included a silicon kidney unit based on computed tomography (CT) data, a 3D printed ureteral stone based on a real extracted ureteral stone, a latex ureter model, a bladder vessel, and a fluid with qualities resembling pus.

Placental abruption: assessing trends in risk factors over time.

Arch Gynecol Obstet

November 2022

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Soroka University Medical Center, Faculty of Health Sciences, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, POB 151, 84101, Beer-Sheva, Israel.

Purpose: To evaluate changes in the independent contribution of different risk factors for placental abruption over time.

Methods: In this retrospective nested case-control study, trends of change in ORs for known risk factors for placental abruption occurring in three consecutive 8-year intervals were compared. A univariate assessment of factors associated with placental abruption and two multivariable logistic regression models were constructed to identify independent risk factors for placental abruption.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Striae gravidarum are linear atrophic scars appearing on the abdomen of pregnant women reported to be related to pregnancy-induced changes in the connective tissue. Pelvic floor distress symptoms are also known to be linked to connective tissue weakness. Given that common pathophysiological pathways may play a role in both striae gravidarum and pelvic floor dysfunction symptoms, we sought to examine whether there is a correlation between them during pregnancy.

Objective: To quantify the relative volumetric flows in stent and ureter lumina, as a function of stent size and configuration, in both unobstructed and externally obstructed stented ureters.

Methods: Magnetic resonance imaging was used to measure flow in stented ureters using a phantom kidney model. Volumetric flow in the stent and ureter lumina were determined along the stented ureters, for each of four single stent sizes (4.

Research Question: Is extended fertility at the advanced reproductive age of 43-47 years associated with high anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) concentrations?

Design: Prospective cohort study including 98 women aged 43-47 years old with a spontaneous conception who were tested for AMH concentrations 1-4 days and 3-11 months post-partum. AMH concentrations at 3-11 months post-partum were further compared with AMH concentrations in healthy age-matched controls that last gave birth at ≤42 years old. Women with current use of combined hormonal contraceptives (CHC), ovarian insult or polycystic ovary syndrome were excluded.

Introduction: Ureteral stents are effective in alleviating flow disruptions in the urinary tract, whether due to ureteral stones, strictures or extrinsic ureteral obstruction. However, significant stent encrustation on the external and/or internal stent lumen walls can occur, which may interfere with stent functioning and/or removal. Currently, there is only limited, generally qualitative, information on the distribution, mineral structure, and chemical content of these deposits, particularly in terms of stent lumen encrustation.
