Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a complex clinical syndrome resulting from various cardiac diseases, characterized by weakened cardiac pumping capacity and inadequate blood supply to body tissues. This study aims to investigate the expression and clinical implications of pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (pro-BNP) and soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2) in CHF to explore their potential in early diagnosis and severity assessment of the pathological condition. This study included 146 CHF patients treated at our hospital from January 2022 to December 2023, who were classified in the observation group, and 150 concurrent healthy people categorized in the control group.

Background: Bilateral deep brain stimulation (DBS) of subthalamic nucleus (STN) has demonstrated efficacy for ameliorating medication-refractory isolated dystonia. Nonetheless, the paucity of evidence regarding its long-term impact on quality-of-life (QoL) necessitates further investigation.
Objectives: This study aimed to elucidate the longitudinal effects of chronic STN stimulation on QoL in patients suffering from isolated dystonia.

Background: Polymorphisms in susceptibility genes are a major risk factor for the development of asthma. Understanding these genetic variants helps elucidate asthma's pathogenesis, predict its onset, expedite antiasthma medication development, and achieve precise targeted individualized treatment. This study developed a test kit based on susceptibility genes for predicting asthma in Chinese children.

Cognitive impairment in the elderly is associated with alterations in bile acid (BA) metabolism. In this study, we observe elevated levels of serum conjugated primary bile acids (CPBAs) and ammonia in elderly individuals, mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease, and aging rodents, with a more pronounced change in females. These changes are correlated with increased expression of the ileal apical sodium-bile acid transporter (ASBT), hippocampal synapse loss, and elevated brain CPBA and ammonia levels in rodents.

Background: In postoperative setting, breast cancer (BC) patients can experience adverse effects, including fatigue, sleep disorders, and pain, which substantially affect their health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This study sought to assess the effectiveness of a WeChat-based multimodal nursing program (WCBMNP) that was specifically designed for the rehabilitation of women following BC surgery.
Methods: BC patients were randomly, single-blinded allocated to either the intervention (n=62) or control (n=63) cohorts.

Background: Percutaneous balloon compression (PBC) has become one of the most common and effective minimally invasive treatments for trigeminal neuralgia (TN). However, the initial and long-term pain outcomes, as well as the complication rates of PBC for patients with TN with concomitant continuous pain (CCP) have yet to be specifically documented.
Objective: In this clinical study, we aimed to evaluate and compare the results of PBC in treating TN with and without CCP.

Background And Purpose: Relying on a single biomarker for early diagnosis of Parkinson disease (PD) may not yield accurate results. We aimed to assess the combined diagnostic value of multiple biomarkers, including plasma CCL2, plasma CXCL12, and plasma neuronal exosomal α-synuclein (α-syn) for early stage PD diagnosis and their predictive value in PD progression.
Methods: This study included both cross-sectional and longitudinal designs.

Overcoming apoptosis resistance is necessary to ensure an effective cancer treatment; however, it is currently very difficult to achieve. A desirable alternative for cancer treatment is the targeted activation of pyroptosis, a unique type of programmed cell death. However, the pyroptosis inducers that are efficient for cancer therapy are limited.

Objective: The aim of the work described here was to investigate the value of dynamic contrast enhanced ultrasound (DCE-US) and quantitative analysis in pre-operative differential diagnosis of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in non-cirrhotic liver.
Methods: In this retrospective study, patients with histopathologically proven ICC and HCC lesions in non-cirrhotic liver were included. All patients underwent contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) examinations with an Acuson Sequoia unit (Siemens Healthineers, Mountain View, CA, USA) unit or LOGIQ E20 (GE Healthcare, Milwaukee, WI, USA) within 1 wk before surgery.

Background: The optimal positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) to prevent postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) remains unclear. Recent evidence showed that driving pressure was closely related to PPCs. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that an individualized PEEP guided by minimum driving pressure during abdominal surgery would reduce the incidence of PPCs.
