Background: The interplay between gut microbiota and metabolites in the early stages of sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) is not yet clearly understood. This study explores the characteristics and interactions of gut microbiota, and blood and urinary metabolites in patients with SA-AKI.
Methods: Utilizing a prospective observational approach, we conducted comparative analyses of gut microbiota and metabolites via metabolomics and metagenomics in individuals diagnosed with SA-AKI compared to those without AKI (NCT06197828).

Previously, we found that the incidence of kidney injury in patients with chronic hypoxia was related to the partial pressure of arterial oxygen. However, at oxygen concentrations that contribute to kidney injury, the changes in the relationship between microRNAs (miRNAs) and the hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α)-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) axis and the key miRNAs involved in this process have not been elucidated. Therefore, we elucidated the relationship between VEGF and kidney injury at different oxygen concentrations and the mechanisms mediated by miRNAs.

Prenatal single and combined exposure to lead (Pb) and stress (Ps) impairs neurodevelopment. Prenatal single exposure to Pb or Ps affects the composition of intestinal microbiota, and bidirectional communication between gut microbiota and central nervous system has been well recognized. However, whether gut microbiota mediated the effects of prenatal Pb+Ps co-exposure on neurodevelopmental deficits remains unclear.

Background: Although the measurement of central venous pressure (CVP) is a common clinical tool, the role of CVP monitoring in the outcome of sepsis is controversial because threshold values of CVP are uncertain, and there are only limited data on short-term survival of patients with septic acute kidney injury (AKI).
Methods: This retrospective cohort study was based on the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV) database (source of the training dataset). Multivariate regression analysis was performed to clarify the relation between CVP measurement and clinical outcomes, and a univariate regression model after propensity score matching was utilized to validate our findings.

High-power radiofrequency (RF) catheter ablation was considered as a promising alternative strategy to conventional-power ablation in the treatment of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). This study sought to compare the efficacy and safety of high-power energy delivery to that of conventional-power setting in AF catheter ablation. We performed a systematic review of relevant literature in Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane library, and Google Scholar database.

Background: Acute kidney injury is a severe complication following complete repair of tetralogy of Fallot. Anaerobic metabolism is believed to contribute to the development of acute kidney injury. The ratio of central venous to arterial carbon dioxide tension to arterio-venous oxygen content (PV-ACO2/CA-VO2) has been proposed as a surrogate for respiratory quotient and an indicator of tissue oxygenation.

Aims: Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is a leading cause of cardiomyocyte loss and subsequent ventricular dysfunction after restoring the coronary blood flow and contributes to considerable increase in morbidity and mortality. Resveratrol has been declared to confer cardioprotection against and ex vivo myocardial I/R injury. Here, we have sought to investigate the effects of preconditioning with resveratrol on myocardial I/R damage across the small animal studies.

Background: The efficacy and safety of adjuvant substrate modification (SM; either linear ablation [LA] or complex fractionated atrial electrogram [CFAE] ablation) in addition to pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) for the treatment of symptomatic, drug-refractory atrial fibrillation (AF), have still not been clarified and need further assessment.
Method: We systematically searched the PubMed, MEDLINE, and Cochrane databases for studies comparing PVI with adjunctive SM versus PVI alone for treatment of drug-refractory AF.
Results: Twenty-six (26) studies including 3,409 patients (1,975 PVI + SM; 1,434 PVI alone) were included for further analysis.

Malignant pheochromocytoma (PHEO) is diagnosed only when metastasis has occurred, making it less likely for patients to obtain the benefits of traditional chemotherapy. Anti-oncogene TP53 mutation has been detected in PHEO and is possibly related to disease progression. However, whether the upregulation of wild-type TP53 has antitumoral effects on PHEO remains completely unknown.

However, the role of adjunctive adenosine infusion after pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) on long-term arrhythmia-free survival was still contentious. The purpose of the present meta-analysis was to assess the association of adenosine testing with long-term ablation success in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) (i.

Levodopa (L-dopa) is the dominating therapy drug for exogenous dopaminergic substitution and can alleviate most of the manifestations of Parkinson's disease (PD), but long-term therapy is associated with the emergence of L-dopa-induced dyskinesia (LID). Evidence points towards an involvement of Glycogen Synthase Kinase-3β (GSK-3β) in development of LID. In the present study, we found that animals rendered dyskinetic by L-dopa treatment, administration of TDZD8 (2mg/kg) obviously prevented the severity of AIM score, as well as improvement in motor function (P < 0.

L-3, 4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-dopa) is the gold standard for symptomatic treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD), but long-term therapy is associated with the emergence of L-dopa-induced dyskinesia (LID). In the present study, L-dopa and benserazide were loaded by poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) microspheres (LBM), which can release levodopa and benserazide in a sustained manner in order to continuous stimulate dopaminergic receptors. We investigated the role of striatal DR1/PKA/P-tau signal transduction in the molecular event underlying LID in the 6-OHDA-lesioned rat model of PD.

Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II is a synapse-enriched kinase in mammalian brains. This kinase interacts with various synaptic proteins to regulate expression and function of interacting proteins and thereby modulates synaptic transmission. CaMKII and its interacting partners are also believed to play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of various neurological and neurodegenerative disorders, such as Parkinson's disease (PD).

A systematic review of the literature was conducted to identify randomized trials involving continuous dopaminergic stimulation (CDS) in PD patients with motor complications. Difference between n groups was assessed by partitioning heterogeneity and using the χ2 distribution with n-1 degrees of freedom, where n equals the number of groups. We looked for publication bias using funnel plotting, Egger's test and Begg's test.
