Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a preventable cause of morbidity and mortality in acutely ill patients hospitalized in medical departments. Thromboprophylaxis with anticoagulants was shown to be safe and effective in medical patients with high risk to develop VTE. Despite guidelines recommendations, the rate of thromboprophylaxis in those patients is low.

Objective: To examine chromosomal microarray analysis results in pregnancies with various ultrasonographic anomalies and to characterize the copy number variants in diverse fetal phenotypes.
Methods: We retrospectively examined chromosomal microarray analyses of amniocenteses performed nationwide as a result of fetal ultrasonographic anomalies (structural defects, fetal growth restriction, and polyhydramnios) between January 2013 and September 2017. The rate of abnormal chromosomal microarray findings was compared between the different phenotypes and with a previously described control population of 15,225 pregnancies with normal ultrasonographic findings.

Background: Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common valvular disease. Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) have a role in the repair of endothelial surfaces after injury. Reduced numbers of EPCs are associated with endothelial dysfunction and adverse clinical events, suggesting that endothelial injury in the absence of sufficient repair by circulating EPCs promotes the progression of vascular and possibly valvular disorders.

Objectives: We hypothesized that the guideline-recommended peak anti-Xa levels for pregnant women with mechanical prosthetic heart valves (MPHVs) receiving adjusted dose low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) are associated with subtherapeutic trough levels and consequently with an inadequate level of anticoagulation.
Background: Low-molecular-weight heparin is often used for anticoagulation in pregnant women including those with MPHV. American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guidelines recommend monitoring of plasma anti-Xa factor peak levels and adjustment of the dose to achieve peak levels of 0.

Background: Despite having a similar large extent of atherosclerotic coronary affliction, some patients suffer of recurrent cardiac events, whereas others remain asymptomatic.
Hypothesis: We hypothesized the existence of a systemic "signature" that could distinguish "vulnerable" patients with preexisting coronary atherosclerosis from those having similar risk factors and atheromatous burden, but no history of clinically evident plaque rupture/erosion.
Methods: Twenty three patients who had at least two prior myocardial infarctions ("vulnerable group") were matched in respect to their background and coronary atherosclerosis extent with twenty one patients without a history of previous myocardial infarction who underwent routine coronary angiography before valvular surgery.

Malignant ovarian carcinoma is the leading cause of death among gynecological cancers. Most of these cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage. Traditionally the treatment of advanced ovarian cancer is based on primary surgery, debulking the tumor to minimal volume, followed by chemotherapy.

Objectives: Myocardial ischemia is difficult to assess by noninvasive methods in patients with a permanent pacemaker. Pacing stress echocardiography (PASE) has been used successfully in the detection of coronary artery disease (CAD). However, there are no data comparing PASE and other methods.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the western world. The dramatic change in mortality due to breast cancer in the last decade was associated with better screening for early detection of malignancy and improved hormonal anti-estrogenic adjuvant therapy, mainly Tamoxifen. However, in the endometrium, Tamoxifen has a proestrogenic effect.

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma involving the ovaries is unusual and may cause confusion for the clinician since its presentation might resemble other, much more frequent tumors. Malignant lymphoid cells may occur in the ovary either as a primary neoplasm or as a secondary manifestation of a disseminated occult or known disease. The most common presenting signs or symptoms of malignant lymphomas involving the ovaries are abdominal or pelvic pain or mass.

A 56-year-old patient was found to have smouldering myeloma which remained asymptomatic and untreated for 13 years. Localised osteolytic lesions then appeared, which responded to local irradiation. Six years later, an increased serum M-protein became evident (IgG$LD, 3 gr/dl) associated with 35% plasma cells in the bone marrow, which necessitated melphalan/prednisone therapy.
