Objective: To explore the effect of intestinal nitrates on the growth of and its regulatory mechanisms.

Methods: strains with nitrate reductase and single or double gene knockout or with NarXL gene knockout were constructed and observed for both aerobic and anaerobic growth in the presence of KNO using an automated bacterial growth analyzer and a spectrophotometer, respectively. The mRNA expressions of and in in anaerobic cultures in the presence of KNO and the effect of the binary regulatory system NarXL on their expresisons were detected using qRT-PCR.

Surgical treatment improves overall survival of hepatocellular carcinoma with extrahepatic metastases after conversion therapy: a multicenter retrospective study.

Sci Rep

Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, National Cancer Center/National Clinical Research Center for Cancer/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Panjiayuan, Chaoyang District, in the South, 17th, Beijing, 100021, China.

Systemic therapy is typically the primary treatment choice for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with extrahepatic metastases. Some patients may achieve partial response (PR) or complete response (CR) with systemic treatment, leading to the possibility of their primary tumor becoming resectable. This study aimed to investigate whether these patients could achieve longer survival through surgical resection of their primary tumor.

Importance: Purinergic receptor P2Y12 (P2Y12) inhibitor monotherapy after a certain period of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) may be an attractive option of maintenance antiplatelet treatment for patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) who are at both high bleeding and ischemic risk (birisk).

Objective: To determine if extended P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy with clopidogrel is superior to ongoing DAPT with aspirin and clopidogrel after 9 to 12 months of DAPT after PCI in birisk patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

Design, Setting, And Participants: This was a multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial including birisk patients with ACS who had completed 9 to 12 months of DAPT after drug-eluting stent implantation and were free from adverse events for at least 6 months at 101 China centers between February 2018 and December 2020.

Background: Studies have shown that oral oxycontin tablets can be used for opioid titration. The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) guidelines for adult cancer pain recommend opioid titration through the parenteral route, usually the intravenous or subcutaneous route. Patient-controlled subcutaneous analgesia (PCSA) with hydromorphone needs further evaluation for opioid titration.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to compare therapy responses and outcomes among four medications (nilotinib, dasatinib, flumatinib, and imatinib) for newly diagnosed chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in a practical setting.
  • Data from 2,496 patients across 77 centers in China were analyzed, and results showed that the newer treatments had similar effectiveness in terms of overall survival and progression-free survival, but better initial responses and failure-free survival compared to imatinib.
  • The findings suggest that while nilotinib, dasatinib, and flumatinib are more effective in achieving early treatment responses, all four medications ultimately offer comparable long-term survival outcomes, which can help

Background: Systemic inflammation-immune dysregulation and brain abnormalities are believed to contribute to the pathogenesis of bipolar disorder (BD). However, the connections between peripheral inflammation and the brain, especially the interactions between different BD subtypes and episodes, remain to be elucidated. Therefore, we conducted the present study to provide a comprehensive understanding of the complex association between peripheral inflammation and neuroimaging findings in patients with bipolar spectrum disorders.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are the standard of care for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC); however, most patients develop de novo or acquired resistance to ICIs. Oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) has been rarely explored as a potential target for correcting ICI resistance.

Methods: We systematically analyzed RNA sequencing and clinical data from CheckMate, JAVELIN Renal 101, and NCT01358721 clinical trials, and clinicopathological data of 25 patients from Tongji Hospital to investigate the relationship between OXPHOS and ICI resistance.

  • A randomized clinical trial in China evaluated the effectiveness of electronic cigarettes (ECs), nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), and varenicline in helping smokers quit, involving 1068 participants who smoked at least 10 cigarettes per day and were ready to stop.
  • The study found that 6-month abstinence rates were 15.7% for the EC group, 14.2% for the varenicline group, and 8.8% for the NRT group, indicating that ECs were more effective than NRT and comparable to varenicline.
  • Participants received minimal behavioral support and the main measure of success was verified sustained abstinence, where those lost to follow-up were counted as non-abstainers

Human gene editing technology is a hot spot and focus in the development of biotechnology, but it has also caused controversies over technical risks, genetic biosecurity, ethical dignity of human society and the legality of application, causing people to worry about the application of this technology. Gene editing for reproductive purposes is generally prohibited internationally, and countries have established legal regulatory systems to regulate the application of gene editing technology according to their own conditions. China shall establish a security risk access system for gene editing technology, ensure national biosecurity, establish and improve the system of ethical norms for scientific research, improve the construction of legislative standardization, and provide legal guarantees for the research and application of gene editing technology.
