Objective: To explore the effect of intestinal nitrates on the growth of and its regulatory mechanisms.

Methods: strains with nitrate reductase and single or double gene knockout or with NarXL gene knockout were constructed and observed for both aerobic and anaerobic growth in the presence of KNO using an automated bacterial growth analyzer and a spectrophotometer, respectively. The mRNA expressions of and in in anaerobic cultures in the presence of KNO and the effect of the binary regulatory system NarXL on their expresisons were detected using qRT-PCR.

Surgical treatment improves overall survival of hepatocellular carcinoma with extrahepatic metastases after conversion therapy: a multicenter retrospective study.

Systemic therapy is typically the primary treatment choice for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with extrahepatic metastases. Some patients may achieve partial response (PR) or complete response (CR) with systemic treatment, leading to the possibility of their primary tumor becoming resectable. This study aimed to investigate whether these patients could achieve longer survival through surgical resection of their primary tumor.

Purpose: B-cell lymphoma 9 (BCL9), a key transcription co-activator of the Wnt pathway, contributed to tumor progression and metastasis in various tumors, whereas, the role of BCL9 in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) has not been investigated.

Methods: We acquired PTC gene expression data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Fifty-nine PTC tissues were applied to validate the clinical significance of BCL9.

Extended Clopidogrel Monotherapy vs DAPT in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndromes at High Ischemic and Bleeding Risk: The OPT-BIRISK Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: Purinergic receptor P2Y12 (P2Y12) inhibitor monotherapy after a certain period of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) may be an attractive option of maintenance antiplatelet treatment for patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) who are at both high bleeding and ischemic risk (birisk).

Objective: To determine if extended P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy with clopidogrel is superior to ongoing DAPT with aspirin and clopidogrel after 9 to 12 months of DAPT after PCI in birisk patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

Design, Setting, And Participants: This was a multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial including birisk patients with ACS who had completed 9 to 12 months of DAPT after drug-eluting stent implantation and were free from adverse events for at least 6 months at 101 China centers between February 2018 and December 2020.

Patient-Controlled Subcutaneous Analgesia with Hydromorphone versus Oral Oxycontin for Opioid Titration of Cancer Pain: A Prospective Multicenter Randomized Trial.

Background: Studies have shown that oral oxycontin tablets can be used for opioid titration. The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) guidelines for adult cancer pain recommend opioid titration through the parenteral route, usually the intravenous or subcutaneous route. Patient-controlled subcutaneous analgesia (PCSA) with hydromorphone needs further evaluation for opioid titration.

Background: Major depressive disorder (MDD) has been increasingly understood as a disruption of brain connectome. Investigating grey matter structural networks with a large sample size can provide valuable insights into the structural basis of network-level neuropathological underpinnings of MDD.

Aims: Using a multisite MRI data-set including nearly 2000 individuals, this study aimed to identify robust topology and connectivity abnormalities of grey matter structural network linked to MDD and relevant clinical phenotypes.

A multicenter clinical epidemiology of pediatric pneumococcal meningitis in China: results from the Chinese Pediatric Bacterial Meningitis Surveillance (CPBMS) 2019-2020.

Objective: To analyze the clinical epidemiological characteristics including clinical features, disease prognosis of pneumococcal meningitis (PM), and drug sensitivity of isolates in Chinese children.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical, laboratory microbiological data of 160 hospitalized children less than 15 years of age with PM from January 2019 to December 2020 in 33 tertiary hospitals in China.

Results: A total of 160 PM patients were diagnosed, including 103 males and 57 females The onset age was 15 days to 15 years old, and the median age was 1 year and 3 months.

Clinical characteristics of postoperative necrotizing enterocolitis in patients with congenital jejunoileal atresia and its risk factors.

Objective: To review postoperative necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in patients with jejunoileal atresia (JIA) and to explore the potential risk factors related to the concurrence of NEC.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with JIA who received surgical treatment from January 2016 to June 2021 were enrolled. Demographics, viral infection of the fetus, transfusion within 48 hours before NEC, sepsis before JIA repair, pathological and anatomical classification of JIA, combined malformation, occurrence time of NEC after the operation, treatment, and prognosis of patients were analyzed.

Background: Systemic inflammation-immune dysregulation and brain abnormalities are believed to contribute to the pathogenesis of bipolar disorder (BD). However, the connections between peripheral inflammation and the brain, especially the interactions between different BD subtypes and episodes, remain to be elucidated. Therefore, we conducted the present study to provide a comprehensive understanding of the complex association between peripheral inflammation and neuroimaging findings in patients with bipolar spectrum disorders.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are the standard of care for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC); however, most patients develop de novo or acquired resistance to ICIs. Oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) has been rarely explored as a potential target for correcting ICI resistance.

Methods: We systematically analyzed RNA sequencing and clinical data from CheckMate, JAVELIN Renal 101, and NCT01358721 clinical trials, and clinicopathological data of 25 patients from Tongji Hospital to investigate the relationship between OXPHOS and ICI resistance.

Prevalence, patterns, risk factors and outcomes of peritoneal metastases after laparoscopic hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma: a multicenter study from China.

Background: We aim to investigate the prevalence, patterns, risk factors, and outcomes of peritoneal metastases (PM) after curative laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: A multicenter cohort of 2,138 HCC patients who underwent curative LH from August 2010 to December 2016 from seven hospitals in China was retrospectively analyzed. The incidence of PM following LH was evaluated and compared with that in open hepatectomy (OH) after 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM).

Efficacy and safety of pralsetinib in Chinese advanced RET-mutant medullary thyroid cancer patients.

Pralsetinib has demonstrated efficacious activity in various solid tumors, including medullary thyroid cancer (MTC), as observed in the phase 1/2 global ARROW study (BLU-667-1101; NCT03037385). We evaluated the safety and efficacy of pralsetinib in Chinese patients with advanced RET-mutant MTC. In the extension cohort of ARROW, adult patients with advanced MTC, who had not received systemic therapy (except for cytotoxic chemotherapy), were treated with pralsetinib (400 mg once daily, orally).

Reduction mammoplasty and mastopexy for multiple bilateral fibroadenomas: a case report and literature review.

Treatment of multiple benign breast nodules is sometimes challenging with respect to establishing a surgical plan that achieves both therapeutic and cosmetic goals. Successful application of oncoplastic techniques has been reported in selected cases of benign breast lesions. In this case report, we present the surgical treatment and outcome of a patient with multiple fibroadenomas in ptotic and voluminous breasts.

Human gene editing technology is a hot spot and focus in the development of biotechnology, but it has also caused controversies over technical risks, genetic biosecurity, ethical dignity of human society and the legality of application, causing people to worry about the application of this technology. Gene editing for reproductive purposes is generally prohibited internationally, and countries have established legal regulatory systems to regulate the application of gene editing technology according to their own conditions. China shall establish a security risk access system for gene editing technology, ensure national biosecurity, establish and improve the system of ethical norms for scientific research, improve the construction of legislative standardization, and provide legal guarantees for the research and application of gene editing technology.
