Although diabetes is now a global epidemic, China has the highest number of affected people, presenting profound public health and socioeconomic challenges. In China, rapid ecological and lifestyle shifts have dramatically altered diabetes epidemiology and risk factors. In this Review, we summarize the epidemiological trends and the impact of traditional and emerging risk factors on Chinese diabetes prevalence.

Middle-aged obesity, characterized by excessive fat accumulation and systemic energy imbalance, often precedes various health complications. Recent research has unveiled a surprising link between DNA damage response and energy metabolism. Here, we explore the role of Eepd1, a DNA repair enzyme, in regulating adipose tissue function and obesity onset.

Background: Although the information on the validation status of electronic sphygmomanometer (ES) devices in use in health care institutions and households is much more clinically relevant than that of ES models available on the market, it remains insufficient.
Methods: A national survey was conducted across all administrative regions of mainland China to assess the validation status of ESs. Fifty-eight cities were selected with stratification by municipality, provincial capital, and other cities, and health care institutions and households in each city were chosen by convenience to identify ES devices in use according to the study protocol.

Osteoporosis (OP) is a systemic skeletal disorder characterized by decreased bone mineral density and a heightened risk of fractures. Therapies for OP have primarily focused on balancing bone formation and bone resorption, but enhancing the remineralization of osteoporotic bone is also a key strategy for effective repair. Recent insights into biomineralization mechanisms have highlighted the essential role of mineral-containing extracellular vesicles (EVs) secreted by osteoblasts in promoting bone marrow mesenchymal stromal/stem cell (BMSC) differentiation and initiating matrix mineralization.

Objective: We aim to determine the optimal timing and approaches for first tangential excision of severely burned patients ≥70% total body surface area (TBSA).
Background: Early tangential excision is the gold-standard surgical therapy for full-thickness burns. However, there are debates about its optimal timing and approaches for severely burned patients ≥70%TBSA.

Introduction: Accurate platelet (PLT) counting is crucial for disease diagnosis and treatment, especially under the condition of thrombocytopenia and platelet transfusion. A few PLT counting approaches have been established including impedance and fluorescent methods. The impedance PLT counting (PLT-I) approach could be interfered by small non-PLT particles in the blood, such as RBC/WBC fragments, microcytes, bacteria, and cryoglobulins.

Calcium/calmodulin dependent protein kinase II inhibitor 1 (Camk2n1) is closely associated with a peak logarithm of odds score in quantitative trait loci for systolic blood pressure. Increased Camk2n1 mRNA expression has been specifically observed in the kidneys of hypertension mouse models. However, the precise role of Camk2n1 in the kidney remains unclear.

Balanced self-renewal and differentiation of stem cells are crucial for maintaining tissue homeostasis, but the underlying mechanisms of this process remain poorly understood. Here, from an RNA interference (RNAi) screen in adult Drosophila intestinal stem cells (ISCs), we identify a factor, Pax, which is orthologous to mammalian PXN, coordinates the proliferation and differentiation of ISCs during both normal homeostasis and injury-induced midgut regeneration in Drosophila. Loss of Pax promotes ISC proliferation while suppressing its differentiation into absorptive enterocytes (ECs).

Elevated synovial expression of the triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 1 (TREM1) has been identified as a significant biomarker for assessing disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The upregulated expression of TREM1, induced by inflammatory mediators in infiltrating macrophages, plays a critical role in synovitis and joint destruction in RA. Our previous sequencing data linked TREM1 activation to aberrant mitophagy.

Background: The prognosis for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with standard platinum-based chemotherapy was suboptimal, with safety concerns. Following encouraging results from a preliminary phase I study, this phase II trial investigated the efficacy and safety of first-line sintilimab and anlotinib in metastatic NSCLC.
Methods: In this open-label, randomized controlled trial (NCT04124731), metastatic NSCLC without epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR), anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK), or proto-oncogene tyrosine-protein kinase ROS (ROS1) mutations, and previous treatments for metastatic disease were enrolled.

Integrating dietary interventions have been extensively studied for their health benefits, such as Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, and aging. However, it is necessary to fully understand the mechanisms of long-term effects and practical applications of these dietary interventions for health. A 10-week intermittent fasting (IMF) regimen was implemented on the aging animals in the current study.

Cole-Carpenter syndrome (CCS) is a rare autosomal-dominant genetic disease characterized by craniosynostosis, ocular proptosis, hydrocephalus, distinctive facial features, and bone fragility. Previous cases of CCS are associated with genetic variations in P4HB, which encodes the protein disulfide isomerase (PDI), a key enzyme in protein folding. Patients with CCS caused by P4HB mutations often present with short stature, limb deformities, and abnormal epiphyseal plates.
