Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, and the lack of effective biomarkers for early detection leads to poor therapeutic outcomes. Prostaglandin E Synthase 3 (PTGES3) is a putative prognostic marker in many solid tumors; however, its expression and biological functions in HCC have not been determined. The proteolysis-targeting chimera (PROTAC) is an established technology for targeted protein degradation.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has a rich and complex tumor immune microenvironment (TIME). M2 macrophages are among the most extensively infiltrated immune cells in the TIME and are necessary for the growth and migration of cancers. However, the mechanisms and targets mediating M2 macrophage infiltration in pancreatic cancer remain elusive.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted of 185 immunotherapy-treated patients who received opioids at Xuzhou Central Hospital from 01/09/2021 to 01/09/2023. The results of related clinical data were collected during the week before the cancer patients received immunotherapy.
Background: Lumbar disc herniation is a common degenerative lumbar disease with an increasing incidence. Percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy can treat lumbar disc herniation safely and effectively with a minimally invasive procedure. However, the learning curve of this technology is steep, which means that initial learners are often not sufficiently proficient in endoscopic operations, which can easily lead to iatrogenic damage.

Objectives: To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of volume-guaranteed high frequency oscillation ventilation (HFOV-VG) versus conventional mechanical ventilation (CMV) in the treatment of preterm infants with respiratory failure.
Methods: A prospective study was conducted on 112 preterm infants with respiratory failure (a gestational age of 28-34 weeks) who were admitted to the Department of Neonatology, Jiangyin Hospital Affiliated to Medical School of Southeast University, from October 2018 to December 2022. The infants were randomly divided into an HFOV-VG group (44 infants) and a CMV group (68 infants) using the coin tossing method based on the mode of mechanical ventilation.

Renal interstitial fibrosis (RIF) is a key feature of progressive chronic kidney disease (CKD), characterized by tubular epithelial cell (TEC) hypoxia and peritubular capillary (PTC) rarefaction. However, the mechanisms underlying these processes remain poorly understood. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a comparative transcriptome analysis of hypoxic and normoxic HK-2 cells, identifying 572 differentially expressed genes (DEGs).

In the last three years, the capacity of health care systems and the public health policies of governments worldwide were challenged by the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Mortality due to SARS-CoV-2 mainly resulted from the development of acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Moreover, millions of people who survived ALI/ARDS in SARS-CoV-2 infection suffer from multiple lung inflammation-induced complications that lead to disability and even death.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the clinical effect of percutaneous endoscopic medial foraminal discectomy (PEMFD) in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH).
Methods: We retrospectively examined and compared clinical data from 39 single-level LDH patients who underwent PEID and 47 who underwent PEMFD. All the patients were diagnosed with single-level LDH and were treated in Xuzhou Central Hospital for single-segmental lumbar disc herniation between June 2017 and December 2019.

Aims: Full-endoscopic discectomy is associated with a high risk of disc reherniation due to the poor mechanical strength of the annulus fibrosus after scar healing. It is technically difficult to place a full-endoscopic annulus fibrosus suture. We designed an annulus fibrosus suture device that can be used to suture annulus defects under microendoscopy.

Matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and cluster of differentiation 147 (CD147) both play important roles in the development of kidney fibrosis, and CD147 can induce the production and activation of MMP-2. In the early stage of kidney fibrosis, MMP-2 promotes extracellular matrix (ECM) production and accelerates the development of kidney fibrosis, while in the advanced stage, MMP-2 activity decreases, leading to reduced ECM degradation and making it difficult to alleviate kidney fibrosis. The reason for the decrease in MMP-2 activity in the advanced stage is still unclear.

The interaction between over-proliferating keratinocytes and excessive activated immune cells contributes to the development and progression of psoriasis. Photodynamic therapy (PDT)/photothermal therapy (PTT) is a promising method to treat skin diseases due to their synergistic effect and low side effect. Cell membrane is an ideal cell-mediated drug delivery platform with inherent biocompatibility, but lacks of specific targeting properties to increase drug accumulation in the psoriatic site.

Background: Mild encephalitis/encephalopathy with a reversible isolated splenial lesion (MERS) is a rare and complex clinico-radiological condition that aggregates various diseases. From a geographical point of view, most cases have been reported in Asia, especially in Japan. However, a very limited number of studies have properly evaluated Chinese patients diagnosed with MERS.

Increasing evidence has suggested that special AT-rich sequence-binding protein 2 (SATB2) may be involved in the progression of numerous types of human cancer; however, the biological function of SATB2 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) occurrence and progression remains relatively unknown. The present study aimed to investigate the potential role of SATB2 in the regulation of biological characteristics of OSSC during hypoxia. The expression of SATB2 in SCC9 cells was knocked down using small interfering RNA.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a highly malignant gastrointestinal tumor accompanied by poor prognosis. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) plays an important role in the progression and physiology of tumors as it competes with endogenous RNAs, including miRNA and mRNA. In the present study, a multi-step computational method was used to build a CRC-related functional lncRNA-mediated competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network (LMCN).

Immune active cells (IACs) have been shown to be an alternative immunotherapy for CHB patients. However, there is a practical problem of different expansion rate and function of HBV inhibition as individual variability exists. Our previous studies have confirmed that the proliferation and cytolysis of IACs were significantly up-regulated by engineered cells for costimulatory enhancement (ECCE) delivering a 4-1BBζ activating signal.
