Article Synopsis
  • - The study aims to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of combining anlotinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, with toripalimab, a PD-1 antibody, in patients with unresectable biliary tract cancer (BTC).
  • - In this trial involving 15 patients, the results showed a 26.7% objective response rate, with a median overall survival of 14.53 months and a disease control rate of 87.6%.
  • - The findings suggest potential biomarkers (STK11 mutation and CD8/Foxp3 ratio) that could help predict treatment outcomes, indicating this combination therapy may effectively treat advanced BTC.

Estrogen Receptor 2 (ESR2) is the protein-coding gene of estrogen receptor β (ERβ) and has been shown to be abundantly expressed in gastric carcinoma (GC), suggesting that it plays a role in GC pathogenesis. However, the underlying molecular mechanism remains elusive. In the present study, GC cell growth was found to be estrogen-dependent, and the expression level of ERβ was higher than that of ERα.

State Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Department of Sports Medicine and Adult Reconstructive Surgery, Drum Tower Hospital Affiliated to Medical School of Nanjing University Nanjing, China.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the degenerative medial meniscus and traumatic lesions on the biomechanical behavior of the knee. An elaborate three-dimensional (3D) finite element model of the total knee joint containing bones, articular cartilages, main ligaments, and menisci was developed from a combination of magnetic resonance images and computed tomography. Three types of meniscus tears were employed to represent the degenerative and traumatic lesions.

Heterogeneous biomaterials that simultaneously mimic the topological and mechanical properties of nature bone tissues are of great interest in recent years. In this study, multi-morphology porous scaffolds based on the triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) were designed and 3D printed with spatially changing pore patterns. Experiments and numerical analyses were carried out to assess the mechanical properties of the multi-morphology graded porous scaffold.

Recent evidence suggests that anti-diabetic drug metformin prevents cancer progression, but the mechanism by which metformin inhibits tumor growth remains elusive. In this study, we investigated the anticancer role of metformin in gastric cancer and explored the underlying mechanism. The expression of hypoxia inducible factor 1α (HIF1α) and pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) in different stages of gastric cancer tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry.
